Resident Evil GAF, I have a jill question.

Ya, this is the first I'm hearing so much hate for RE4 Leon -_-

RE4 Leon is the best Leon.

Maybe she left BSAA after RE5 and BSAA wouldn't share info like current whereabouts with non-employees ??

As if that would stop Jill. I really wanna know what she was up to between 5 and 6. Hoping for some game that tells the story in between 5 and 6. At least tell it like she and/or Claire actually sent Piers because of whatever reason.... ugh I can't.

Some of the Jill models for Revelations were actually pretty, like in some early renders but the final product is abysmal. And the Mercs 3D one is atrocious.

RE4 Leon is the best Leon.

It's built up over the years. Personally RE4 leon is my least favorite protagonist.
I can understand why other's enjoy him though. His cocky attitude in that game was pretty fun.

As for RE Lore and Characters all I gotta say is they need to slow down on adding more characters. That is by far RE's biggest issue. They keep adding and not closing other character arc's. Sheva for example apparently led piers to chris....and who knows what else she is up to. This is one of the reason's RE6's inclusion of sherry was such a big deal since she hadn't been seen or heard from since RE2.

Yeah the cast of RE has certainly gotten massive, not to mention the number of characters who kind of just got dropped. I just realized Claire hasn't starred in a main RE game since Code Veronica, only having appeared in side content like the first CG movie and the second light gun game. I really do believe either her or Jill will be playable in RE7, preferably Claire since Jill has had a lot of screentime in recent entries.

The real travesty through is Barry, who kind of just got dropped after RE1 and a static piece of artwork and text at the end of RE3. Rebecca too.

Lastly, RE6 seemed to imply that Sherry and Jake, or at least just Jake, would be come a sort of next generation of RE heroes.

After what happened with RE6 commercially, who the hell knows what Capcom is doing with RE7.

Actually, in canon, Barry is the one who saves Jill and Carlos from the missile, in Raccoon City. It's something.

I really want to know about Carlos, it was a pretty funny and likeable character....

I get that Leon has a bit of a different attitude in RE4 from 2, but... Dude literally lived through the Zombie apocalypse, and then went through some more shit before 4 (Mission in S America, Gaiden if we count that)... Makes sense he'd be a bit harder. He's still a dork though, and a fucking awesome one at that.

If anything in the universe could make me go gay, it's probably Leon.

qft

They already did it in 5, although with a villain.

But yeah, imagine if RE7 killed a classic character on the intro, to show how high the stakes are. That'd be a bold move.

EDIT: Why do people keep asking where's Claire? I like her just as much as the next RE fan, but her absence is both explained and reasonable.

There are no stakes. Reboot the franchise ... with Idris Elba. It's the only way.

Yeah i'm at a loss as to why Carlos never appeared again.
Especially since he was pretty close to jill in the events of 3.

RE7 love triangle with Jill, Chris, and Carlos sounds good to me.

That's like saying a glove that fits perfectly isn't comfortable.

No it's not. I liked Leon in a kitschy way in RE4. But compared to actual characters in actual movies+books, RE characters seem written by a 9 year old.

Edit to Crapcom : please give back this Jill , or Remake Jill not the abomination in Revelations , thanks .

I love RE3, but Jill's outfit in that is just plain ridiculous. that shit made zero sense.

"lets have her run around in a miniskirt and a tube top during the zombie apocalypse"

unless they're going by the Skimpy Armor Is Better Armor theory

Probably the coolest QTE move in RE5

Well, they're not really revived from the dead if they're mindless monsters.

That's the point. It's a sadistic suggestion.

Oh I'm not saying anything was overwritten or ret-conned. It just seemed like after RE4 Capcom gave less of a shit about the existing storyline. Maybe I was just disappointed at the resolutions they came up with.

At the end of Code Veronica it's made to look like everybody's gearing up for the final showdown with Umbrella. After Raccoon City you've got Barry, Jill, Chris, Ada, and others all headed to Europe to take on Umbrella head-on, and then Wesker's collected a sample of pretty much every bioweapon in Umbrella's arsenal. It seems like some shit was going to go down.

Storyline-wise what was disappointing about RE4 wasn't that it was a side-story, it's that it kind of threw away the downfall of Umbrella. You're told of that downfall before the game even starts. It kind of feels like they skipped over that resolution, and since then Capcom just didn't care as much.

See stuff like this is what I'm talking about. The final assault on Umbrella ended up being covered in a level of Umbrella Chronicles, itself a kind of half-assed celebration of the RE lore. And Claire doesn't get a playable starring role again until Darkside Chronicles, and that's it.

Capcom didn't retcon anything, but they kind of did close shit up pretty hastily.

At the time of CV's release they were actually gearing up for assaults against Umbrella though. Not S.T.A.R.S. storming some corporate office filled with monsters though, of course.

BIO4 (Castle/Hallucination versions) featured Leon as a member of a secret anti-B.O.W. unit in the US government (Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team). He and other members of the unit investigate Spencer's castle in Europe, where HCF (the group Wesker leads in CV) has already attacked. All members of each group are wiped out besides Leon, who is infected by a new bacteria-sized virus developed by HCF (not infected by Progenitor as many assume). The overall goal of the game was to eradicate the Progenitor Virus, as it's the source of the t-Virus and t-Veronica. It was the first step towards taking down Umbrella.

Essentially, you had the U.S. government (Leon, Barry), other S.T.A.R.S. members (Chris, Jill) and their own rival company (Wesker) all against Umbrella. This remains true, although not as originally intended. You're right that they sort of closed everything off rather hastily. Either that, or the new writers just aren't as good.

However, taking down Umbrella wouldn't have ended the series. Wesker and the rival company were pretty much primed to take their place... although that manifested quite differently these days.

Leon actually has a bit of character development, at least compared to the other protagonists.

He starts out as a boy scout, turns into a wise-cracking smart ass after going through hell, and finally matures into a happy medium by the time of RE6. But he's always Leon, and he's always a dork, no matter how inexperienced or experienced he may be.

Speaking of Jill, I just finished RE3 Nemesis yesterday for the first time and was surprised at how well it holds up. Even with the tank controls and dated graphics, I had a really good time playing it. To be honest I went in with low expectations, but I couldn't put it down. These old RE games just nail the eerie atmosphere, and the way Nemesis just appears out of nowhere sometimes made me jump a few times. Sure, it's still a bit goofy and the voice acting is laughable for the most part, but still. Great game.

I still say RE3 is the best aged out of the old game. The inclusion of dodge and the like help greatly especially with Nemesis. Aside from that it has the best blend of being regular survival horror (hard mode) or almost just an action game on easy.

Nemesis popping out of the window in the RPD was intense

I don't think RE: Merc 3D has that Jill move. She still have the neckbreaker, which is awesome.

It does :D The move in general is very hard to do though even in 5 unless you're playing Survivors. On Mercs you either do it as a finisher on bosses, or do the kick/punches between several characters on enemies until she can do it but I've only done it by accident once or twice when playing with randoms on my 2DS.

But there's a skill called Reversal so when you're in critical health you can execute it along with the other finisher "Flip Kick" which is an awesome skill but risky to use since you can get into dying state if you're not careful xD

Still though her face in M3D is awful but at least she has Patricia Ja Lee's voice even though the sound is awful.
