Resident Evil Portable... where the hell is it?

I'm way more stunned that, after the success of Monster Hunter on the PSP, Capcom didn't decide to do a RE: Outbreak for the PSP. Seems like a no-brainer to me, especially with the multiplayer focus.
That's exactly what RE:P was speculated to be. Considering that it was supposed to be designed with the "PSPGo in mind" I think it's safe to say that it's both dead and entirely separate from RE:R.

Portable Resident Evil is dead.

All hail portable Resident Evil.

I'd be disappointed if that were the case. I actually enjoyed the rumors that it would be a classic RE game with gameplay similar to Monster Hunter.

Never heard of such a rumor.

No, Capcom outsourced that (and other) games to Gameloft for mobile phones.
No they didn't. I'm quite sure that capcom had nothing to do with Zombie Infection.

Post was full of fud.

Well if Capcom was really designing it around Go then I can't blame them for canceling the project.

The Go has tanked worse then anything since Virtual Boy, so maybe they saw the tide early like they did with getting on board the X360 in America and pulled the plug on it.

All that said I don't know why they would design something around the Go, I mean what does the Go have that the PSP 1000-3000 can't do?

I recall it being discussed somewhere in the older threads for RE:P.
That wasn't a rumor, it was just what people on the thread speculated. Due to Capcom's success with the Monster Hunter series and saying it would be a different RE game.

This has pretty much been what Biohazard fans have wanted since the PSP launched. This was before Monster Hunter, even.

I mean it's a no brainer, same team. Same platform. Do it, Capcom.

It was announced at that same E3 so saying "with the PSP go in mind" made Sony happy.

I know that, my point is there is nothing about the Go that is special outside of being able to use Dual Shock 3 and it doesn't even sale in Japan.

I'm pretty sure SCEA said to Capcom USA: "we're announcing the PSP Go, can you guys cook us a Resident Portable logo and act like the game exists?"

The game was talked at E3 2009 only, no one from Capcom Japan recognized its existence and it was never announced outside of the Capcom Unity blog. Probably SCEA made a deal with Capcom USA and the project fell apart before anything worthwhile came from that.

And I doubt this (joke) project became RE:Revelations because I don't think Capcom Japan had been involved in any way with it and third parties knew about the 3DS only three months before E3, so I don't think Capcom was making RE:PSP and in March they said fuck this, we are going to make it a 3DS exclusive. I think they'll have tried to make a multiplatform game.

I could see some truth to your theory on a fake reveal since even the 3DS game had an official title moment it was shown. It was not just Resident Evil 3DS or Portable.

a multiplayer focused RE with traditional gameplay could be excellent. i never thought it would work with MGS and look at it

unfortunately they attached this to the biggest handheld abomination of all time to it's probably been cancelled

Yeah, Capcom had nothing to do with that game. However, Gameloft did help localize and publish some RE cellphone games with Capcom.

I also doubt it because Sony announced RE Portable in their last year E3 conference so they would think it would be heavily secured.

Kinda like Resident Evil 4, am I right? This is Capcom, for crying out loud.

where the hell did all of these Outbreak fans come from?

pretty sure about 3 people on GAF even cared about it when it was out and playable online.

odd.

I'm the 4th, those games wailed

(even though I was too intimidated by the "time limit" to actually finish them)

Well... Seems like its in a similar situation to Agent. Announced last year, no new info until now.

Maybe they meant "Resident Evil Portable" as the rereleases of RE1-3 on the PSN since they are portable (playable on PSP and PS3). :P

To be fair, GAF is without exaggeration ten times the size it was when the Outbreak games came out.

I loved it. I remember playing it with Monster Hunter on my PS2, good times.

yeah, that is probably the reason. makes sense.

i just wish Outbreak got the response i felt it deserved when it was around for us to appreciate. it was so damn fun.

Well, to be fair: I didn't have an online capable PS2 (was an X-box person) until after FF12 released, so by then most of the community was gone.

That and PSTwo/Slim doesn't have a harddrive, which really REALLY put me at a disadvantage in online play. So I skipped on that.

Still, the singleplayer was fun in a somewhat flawed way (it is REALLY built around having four players at times), using Yoko was the only way to get through the scenarios at times, I feel. :lol

Capcom didn't think having one PSP action game in purgatory was enough, so they needed another. Capcom loves to milk even purgatory titles!

I miss the capcom of old, where we would of been up to Resident Evil Portable 6 by now :(

I like level pack like sequels!

Agent is a bit different beast, since it is Rockstar and they don't really talk or show their games until they are close to release.

The PSP version of RE is probably dead, and as some people has pointed out, I doubt it was ported over to the 3DS, mainly due the PSP one never being a real thing.

Oh, duckroll, couldn't you just say say "vapourware ported to the 3DS!"? It's basically what you're hinting at with those links. Saves me the hassle of opening new tabs. :p

I assumed it the second I saw the links, thanks for confirming!

Gameloft does what Capcomdon't

It'd be nice if Gameloft ported that to PSP since Resident Evil Portable seems to have gone AWOL. Gameloft announced that they're doing NOVA (the Halo clone) on PSP so hopefully that goes well and they do more.

As for RE PSP, I follow the belief that the 3DS game was born out of this PSP game being aborted (unless it's being made for both platforms? but that seems unlikely even though year one will likely see a number of shared 3DS/PSP productions.) The background town for RE:P doesn't look like a port town, however, so I can't make the connection between the boat of Resident Evil Revelations and the city of this graphic, if any?
