Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Finished the game, I'm quite underwhelmed.

While on paper the switching between gameplay/camera styles could have been awesome, it's unfortunately poorly implemented. I feel like this game has no direction, they didn't know what to do with the franchise anymore so they tried to mishmash these two different styles without putting much thought into it. The end result is that I basically played a worse version of survival horror RE and a worse version of action RE... in one neat package.

I had high expectations for the Care Center section, since everyone was saying how this section is peak survival horror RE. I played the OG trilogy the last couple months and I'm not sure how anyone could think this is peak survival horror RE. The whole section is extremely guided, the puzzles are a joke and some sections are basically on rails. The atmosphere is great though, I played it in first person and that part of the game is well done for sure. I won't even comment on the Leon's sections in the Care Center, you start them and they are immediately over.

The Raccoon City part is worse than RE4R, which was worse than RE4. It has all the problems of RE4R (sluggish movement, journalist mode parry, etc.), but here the enemies are just glorified target practice puppets. They didn't even think about encounter design, they just spammed random zombies here and there and that's it. The location is also monotonous and repetitive, I can't believe they wasted Leon on this game like this.

I mean, I still had a decent time playing it, there are some good moments here and there. But it's probably the worst modern RE game.

They need a clear direction for their next game. I don't care if it's action, survival horror, a puzzle game or a pachinko slot simulator, just commit to something and do it right.
