Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be Episodic ($6/episode, $25 dig/$40 retail)

I wish they would do this kind of release for every game.

Digital only people? Happy.

Retail only people? Happy.

For once it seems like Capcom is actually considering everybody instead of trying to shove digital down our throats.

I suspect it will include a $5 DLC and there's a $10 retail tax because they want people to buy this digitally instead for better margins.

I expect some extra mods, nothing that big like the Raid/Mercs mode.

Like the PvP mode in RE5, which also was 5$ (If I remember right)

Will the PC version work the same way? Does Capcom even do physical PC releases anymore? I'd like to get the full content version, but I want to get this on Steam.

Also, if someone wants the $25 pack, do they have to wait for a month as well? Would one be able to buy that day 1 and download the new episodes as they are put up?

Having to wait a whole month if you want the whole package is really lame. Hopefully we can grab the season pass on day 1 and wont be missing out on much by not waiting for the retail version.
What a stupid system.

I love the way they are releasing these episodes. Develop the entire season beforehand, and then release them on an actual consistent schedule.

fuck you telltale

I like this. It really seems like they're trying to give us an experience this time. I get more interested the more they reveal.

Although I'll likely get it retail, good on Capcom for trying something like this.

Episodic but with new episode each week seems a pointless endevour to me. The vast majority of the development for the last episode will have been completed before the first even releases, hell I'd be suprised if all of the game wasn't ready by then. In which case it's just holding stuff back to drip feed it for the sake of it.

Games go gold 3-4 weeks before hitting store shelves so yes, the game will be completely finished by the time episode 1 hits.

I'd kill for Capcom to do one of two things

1.) Put out Mercenaries as a "platform". Add map packs and characters as downloadable content to a base package.

2.) Put out Outbreak as a similar platform. Capcom wrote a LOT of scenarios for that game, and the episodic nature combined with the online infrastructure of today makes it a great fit. Add new scenarios as time goes by, if it is succesful.

:(

These are great ideas.

Which is why Capcom won't implement them.

The models for both characters look really weird and lol @ Moira's terribad clothing sense. Very jarring, since everyone looked good in RE6.

This isnt RE6, not the same designers, not the same developers. Completely different sense for capcom as this is not even a project with money behind it, unlike RE6 which was one of the most expensive games of all time.

I think the pricing weekly model is about giving people the ability to try out the game in pieces and become more flexible with the pricing model

This sounds like a pretty interesting experiment. I think the episodic format has its merits but Telltale's approach with huge gaps between releases, further prolonged due to delays, never jived with me. Releasing what's I assume a completely finished game piecemeal and therefore spreading the "hype" and coverage over 4+ weeks doesn't sound that stupid to me. The benefit for the players is that we hopefully get 4 short but focused episodes at a good price with a TV-series like rhythm with a week between each episode to discuss them. Those that want to binge can wait for the full release instead. Win-win, imo.

Price is good but is a dick move for fans in my opinion, I will have to pay twice for the game, first to play early and second to have it on disc.

Yeah this is super annoying. I was liking everything I was reading before this little zinger.

Retail only people? Happy.

OR!!! they could just release the digital version and physical version simultaneously and actually make everyone happy.

I hate this, not that it's digital, the extra content on the retail disc and that it hits after the game has been out for sometime.

Any hardcore RE cannot wait to play this, you really think I can sit around for four weeks while everyone else is playing this just to get the retail version. NOPE. So I get the season pass but of course the retail version has extra content I want. Fuck them.

For years people have been screaming about digital being the same price as discs. Now, digital is cheaper and that's bad I guess.

Oh, internet.

Give me a break. I'm only upset because I will have to wait on the physical copy. I shouldn't have to wait until all the digital episodes are available to obtain the disc. This has nothing to do with pricing.

Production and distribution of retail discs takes time. It's more likely that they're spacing the episodes out to lead up to the retail release tbh.

Watch the extra content become dlc a month later.

It's four weeks. That's not really a huge amount of time. Not sure why they can't just release it all at the same time. Not to mention that if I did wait out the physical copy there's a chance of being spoiled about stuff before I can get my hands on it.

With an episodic format, there's no way to appease everyone. Releasing the full disc when the first weekly episode is out makes no sense.

I always prefer retail when it comes to consoles, but since I'm going with the PC version I would have gotten the game digitally anyway. Not a big deal for me.

At this point I'll take whatever I can get, too. I feel like we're lucky to be getting this game at all.

Revelations had an episodic format. I got that physically the day it came out. I get they're doing something different with this, but it kind of swings both ways. If they released the disc and first episode at the same time, people who buy the disc could go ahead and play the full thing and the people who want it digitally and cheaper can deal with getting a bit of it per week; much like how people who want the disc version will have to deal with waiting a month.

Maybe they don't want the physical version to be released at the same time due to its episodic nature? So that the digital owners don't get spoiled when all the episodes are put on youtube early for instance? Capcom probably wants to release the physical version after all episodes are released digitally.

But it'd be okay if people waiting for the disc got spoiled by the digital buyers. Like I said above I know what they're doing. Eager fans who want the disc will be left out of the excitement if they don't buy the digital versions, and then they'll probably end up buying the disc version anyway.

So what about the retail people, they get spoiled. This is not like telltale where they work on the episodes as the first ones hit. The game is completely done, it's coming out within four weeks of each other. All they did was decide to split the game into four pieces.

You know what, I'm okay with this kind of release strategy! :) It gives us physical lovers (i don't buy digital games) a chance to still pick up the game, and digital lovers get it a bit cheaper.

I wish they did the same with the REmake remaster, I hear that's digital only so I'll be skipping it :(

I'll buy it at a high low price

I will buy it at a high price....
If possible I don't do digital on Consoles.

But it'd be okay if people waiting for the disc got spoiled by the digital buyers.

Yeah, that is possible :p

I think Capcom might look differently at this. They expect the hardcore fans to get the game as soon as possible, while physical might be meant for the more casual audience unaware of the game's release. I'm reminded a bit of game of the year editions when they're released later and have extra stuff.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm not in favour of this method. Just thinking how Capcom is trying to position this release.

Or they just hope some people will double-dip, which is what I'm guessing. I hate being pessimistic about this as I'm usually the optimist, but it's Capcom.

I hear ya :/

This is the SAME company that released Ducktales Remastered as digital only, and there was an option for a PS3 box with a digital code inside (and some stupid pin or something) and then months later, they released an ACTUAL physical disc version of the game with the same box art!

Oh c'mon. You can simply not read about this game. I've waited over a year to play Revelations on PC (don't have 3DS) and managed to play the game with completely fresh mind, without knowing anything other than what was shown in trailers. It is possible.

That will most likely happen, which happens quite often when those type of fans double dip or get different versions of the same game. It's an inconvenience and silly when these actions force the hardcore fans to double dip even more. Patience always depends on individuals though, they can try to resist and be a bit patient.

It's kind of odd they're offering a disc release at all. Although episodic content staggered by 1 week each is even stranger, it's not like they'll still be working on it at that point. Still, what do you want them to do? Release 4 discs?

Either way I don't think digital releases should be constrained by retail launch dates (and prices!) in 20-fucking-14. If I've got a game preloaded and on my hard drive I should be able to play it, not wait for a disc to show up at some brick and mortar store I haven't been to in years.

Releasing a game probably the same lenght of the first one at half the price? Yeah. Dicks.

Do we know for sure it's the same length? I haven't really followed development of this game but the price seems on the cheap side, at least the digital version. That's so uncapcom.

I was just responding to the quote of the guy saying the digital release owners would get spoiled if the physical release hit at day 1.

I would never wait to play a RE game, I get them all day 1. This just makes it difficult to get the full experience if the retail version has something substantial as an extra. Like raid mode.

To hell with it, as a fan I would like to experience the game at the same time as everyone else. That's a bit more exciting than waiting just to have a physical copy, which I would rather have. I'll just pick up the disc at some point for the sake of it. You win Capcom. Still not thrilled about this, but whatever, I need Claire "I have seen shit" Redfield ASAP.
