Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles: Official Thread

No it's not. There is Resident Evil 2, just not with Leon or Claire. Goddamn.

Then why can't I access it?

If there's an RE2, it's a sub mission and not part of the main story arc.

So man this spin-off might be decent rental. As far as spin-offs go, it did better than I expected. In the realm of spin-offs, it's definitely worth a try. At least it's better than those other Resident Evil spin-offs, Gun Survivor and such. That would have been truly catastrophic if Umbrella Chronicles, an unarguable RE spin-off, turned out as shitty as those also unarguable spin-offs.

So it's a spinoff?

P.S I highly recommend you play this game two player. Also, don't trust shuri's impressions, he told me there's no blood in the game :lol.

well i will rent it anyway. My friends really only play Halo and some fighting games (and only when I initiate) and my sister won't play rated Mature videogames and she's the only other option I have as far as multiplayer games go.

If it's an ok on-rails shooter, then it should be ok alone anyway.

You have two hands and two remotes right?

Because you haven't unlocked them yet.

They are "extra" missions, but they're still from RE2. The wiki accurately lists every mission available in the game, and tells you what and how many players are available in each. There are 22 missions, stop spreading outright falsehoods.

I'm not spreading falsehoods. I'm just seperating the main missions from the submissions. I don't doubt that there's 22 in total. The main missions are the ones you can play as two players, the sub ones you can't. I've finished 9 main missions and 4 sub ones so far.

As for RE2, yeah if it's there, then it must be a submission. I was almost killed in this thread for mentioning that RE2 was in the game last night when i confused it for RE3.

Amirox: Then play 2 players by yourself!

BTW, there's no way in hell this game is 20 hours. Considering i've beaten 13 of them in under 6 hours.

That wiki is wrong. They list Resident Evil 2.
No, the wiki is right, and RE2 is in the game.

There's three Chapters, each have 3 missions for a TOTAL of NINE (plus maybe another 3).
For the main arc, the total is indeed twelve. I'm not sure why you put caps lock on nine when it's completely wrong.

I'm assuming there's a fourth chapter
It's called "Umbrella's End". You play as
Chris and Jill
. Final boss is called Talos.

The main missions are the ones you can play as two players, the sub ones you can't.
Again, wrong. Like I said already, there are two "sub missions" that have co-op available.

I didn't know there was an actual term for it.

What, did you think us Indians call it a paki dot too?

IGN and GT reviews sold me. I am buying for sure.
Seems to be getting decent reviews all around. About exactly what I expected, actually. Lowest has been 7.5 (1up) and the highest has been the equivalent of 8.5 (GamePro).

Yeah. I knew it wouldn't be getting 9.5! or 9.7!! Just as long has it wasn't utter shit. I am a big RE fan, so RE: UC is perfect for me.

IGN said RE2 wasn't in the game but you guys are saying it's there as a submission? Also, from the IGN review, they're complaining they RE4 isn't here. . .maybe it's cause it's called The Umbrella Chronicles?

Does the Zapper do anything for this game at all?

People have said it makes things harder.

The game was designed for the wii-mote by itself, I think it's best (and cheaper) just to go with that.

Also, the zapper only makes things 'heavier' (and regardless of how light it is, after an hour of playing it can get pretty tiresome.)

There's a whopping one aspect of RE2 that's been included in UC. But that's it.

This game is on my top 3 games to get this holiday for Wii
Mario Galaxy
Zak and Wiki
Resident Evil UC

I loved the GT review, they always seem to nail a game and present it in an awesome way.
Come on Capcom bring some Street Fighter love to Wii Ware along with more awesome games.

For 2-player co-op, do you need 2 nunchucks as well?

Nope. The only thing the nunchuck adds is the ability to control the camera. (It's really more of a tilt/lean in directions) The default controls only allow the first player to do it. The rest of the nunchuck controls can also be performed on the remote only. The Z button default is the A button on the remote (press and hold to allow knife use) and the C button default is the D-pad on the remote (switch weapon). Shaking the nunchuck does nothing.

so basically, if I loved every RE game up until RE4 like a child, I should already be playing this? old school "i got the longbox RE1 on release day" fans confirm?

I don't get why games such as this say 'Zapper compatible'. Does the Wii somehow recognize the zapper peripheral when attached to the wiimote/chuck? I thought it was just a plastic holster?

I think its more for the control layout.

Yes, it's pretty much a love letter to the fans.

I'd say it's more like a message on your answering machine, saying you were fucked last night while being asleep.

...

Gosh, I can't wait for that soundtrack to be released! Luckily the game seems to use the ADX format from CRI Middleware. A sound rip should be no problem.

Did you remember the feeling or feel any pain when you woke up? :lol

Yeah, and like I said, while I don't think the zapper itself does you much good, selecting the Zapper control scheme can let you reload without shaking your cursor all over the place.

Nope. The nunchuck is not required at all, and in my opinion is a stupid tack-on and is somewhat gimmicky. The ability to BARELY look around is basically useless.

The game rocks though. It is totally worth the full price and is a great game to play with a friend.

Quick early impressions, did only the first two levels. At first I was like "meh!" it was just so slow and boring for a shooting game, and the wiimote is not as fun as an actual light gun. But when you start noticing the different objects you can hit, the secret files you can find, and hidden paths then it gets a bit more interesting. The boss fight with the scorpion was pretty good.

The second level things improve a lot, more variety of enemies, they become a bit faster. A bit of weapon changing is needed to get out of some bad situations. Once again the boss fight was great.

So I see a theme so far, regular game ok, boss fights great. So far the files I have found are crappy, just regular stuff we all know. The ranking system is a bit forgiving, on my first try I got an A on both stages, missing the S rank by just missing a few files. Why does this game not track accuracy, how is that not a stat.

As the game goes on I bet it will get better.

Oh man, the difficulty jump from the RE0 levels to the first RE1 level is brutal, I died so many times that I got a C rank in time when I finished. Where are the herbs, dammit? And not a single first aid spray to be found. I'm playing it on normal though, I'm tempted to switch to easy so I can get to the new scenarios quicker.

How's everyone doing the weapon upgrading? I maxed out the submachine gun since right now it seems like speed of fire is the most important thing.

You know, Lamonster, if someone answers your question it's generally good etiquette to thank them.

On a side note, Nemesis is a piece of shit.

Bah I get home exhausted, fall asleep, and find that it's too late to go and buy the game.

Meh, there's always tomorrow.

Game is fun. My older brother bought it.

Freaking crimson heads. I hate when they run out from nowhere and just slash you in the face.

Its automatic, if you get a first aid spray when you die it refills your life.
Yeah, I kept thinking I could use it right away... got it figured out now and played through the first 2 levels.

Got home ..4 and a half hours ago..hours ago with Super Mario Galaxy and Umbrella Chronicles...
4 hours went to Galaxy though..
Around 15 minutes to Umbrella Chronicles..but of what I played..I really liked it..
Though it's kinda weird how ...fast everything went...since the train part took me like..11 minutes....but at the same time..I like the pace of the game..

It's tense..it forces you to have quick reflexes..make fast decsions...
The music is still nice, plus they added some..techno-feel to it which was a nice touch..

Can't wait to play a little more.. :)

The game is too easy coop. I noticed this after i played a few single player games and so did the guy i was playing with.

Dude, put it on HARD difficulty.

Btw, are there any "benefits" to putting it on harder difficulties or is it just purely for challenging yourself?

Question - what's the difference with Hard Mode? Do the enemies just hit harder? Are they more aggressive? Are there more of them?

Guys, apologies if this was already made clear, but -- is there any reason to get the US version over the JP version, content-wise? Is the JP version censored like RE4 was? If not, I think I'm gonna buy it today.

Any help would be great. :)
