Resident Evil: Veronica (Code Veronica Remake) Announced

Reports says it'll be more RE2 Remake then RE4 or Requiem.
Be interesting to see what they do to expand on the RE2 Remake formula that doesn't lean into RE4 Style.

That would be good news honestly, because I didn't like the linearity and length of RE4. I prefer wandering around one or two big places, and find out how to progress, and the game doesn't need to be too long.

The idea of a 19 year old college student infiltrating a secure complex and gunning down half a dozen guys was ridiculous even then, but The Matrix had just come out and they just had to do something similar, lol.

I'm glad they're going with a more sensible intro. A seasoned veteran mercenary like Hunk will always have the upper hand on a college student.
Really? That's your concern? In a game about zombie's and monsters? By the end of this game, this college student will have:

Defeated a giant fucking zombie worm either once or twice.
Defeated a Tyrant inside of a small room
Killed several bandersnatchers
Killed a mutated god damn axolotl or some shit
Defeated a mutated Alexander Ashford (Nosferatu)
Stayed alive against a giant mutated Steve
Defeated a giant mutated spider

I don't think this is the kind of franchise to lower your suspension of disbelief for lol.

Bad opinion tbh.

The CV opening rules.
Everyone I know who played CV loves that intro and were very bummed not to see anything like it in the reveal. I would love to see it become actually playable.

I fucking hated that intro and will be glad to see it gone. Too bad they can't remove Wesker while they're at it.

My biggest hope for the game is that the re-write his role substantially for Veronica. For me he was the first thing that felt alien in the game. Before him it was just human against monsters. Hated that cyborg kinda stuff.

We have official confirmation Chris has been hitting the steroids. Not sure he'll be full RE5 buff yet, but he's on his way!

You going to ignore those massive dumbells too?
Considering how not big Chris was originally in Code Veronica, I don't think there is much here until we see Chris. Just that. Could be just an reference for people to get it during the event, the old woman even call him a boulder because he is messy.

So in other words, they scratched that iconic entrance. Fuck them.
You really need to work on your comprehension. The trailer shown is not part of the game, so an intro we have not yet seen exists. The OG intro is acknowledged and nothing is given away, only that it makes sense that for a pre-game announcement teaser to have Claire try visiting the place he was staying before going straight to an Umbrella facility.

Hunk's appearance is a teaser that there is a change going into the game, but nowhere in there did the dev say the old intro is gone.
I have no idea if the person is trustworthy but here is the entire thread for those that don't deal with twitter (or have it blocked at work).

- The camera perspective is very similar to Resident Evil 2 Remake, but character movement feels more refined, including weapon handling.
- After trying a small prison section, zombie encounters felt much tougher. Zombies require multiple shots to go down and some areas can suddenly become crowded with groups of zombies. Taking damage feels similar to RE2 Remake, but improved overall.
- The prison area is slightly more interconnected, featuring locked doors that require specific items to open. There are also brand-new cutscenes.
- Some locations are extremely dark. Players who struggle with darkness or horror may want to stay close to light sources, as large numbers of zombies can appear in these areas.
- Inventory management and resource organization remain part of the game.
- Weapon switching works similarly to RE2 Remake
- Parts of the environment are now interactive.
- Puzzles are still present, including both classic puzzles and newly added ones. The prison section requires some problem-solving to obtain certain items.
- Backtracking is still in the game, but it reportedly isn't frustrating.
- Zombie behavior and movement have been improved and new gameplay mechanics have been added.
- Tyrant's appearances and positioning have been altered slightly.
- According to recent information, Steve has a larger role that in the original game, with more cutscenes and gameplay segments.
- Alfred's character has been significantly improved while still maintaining his classic personality. The same applies to Alexia. Some outfit designs have also been adjusted.
- Claire and Steve's first meeting has been changed slightly.
- The prison area is more difficult that in the original game, but it isn't considered the hardest section. There are other areas that may challenge players even more.
- The game places a heavy focus on story, characters and world-building details.
- There are multiple Easter eggs throughout the game
- Claire and Leon reportedly share more dialogue and additional story details
- This is not an action-focused game. It is a pure survival horror experience, with some locations leaning into psychological horror.
- Nothing has been removed from the game. Content has simply been reworked and some events or items have been relocated
- Dual-wielding weapons is still included
- There is no progression system similar to Resident Evil 4. The overall structure is said to be much closer to Resident Evil 2 Remake.
- Zombies do not appear in large groups everywhere; this only happens in specific locations.

Bonus:
- The community will probably be divided into two groups regarding Chris's new appearance.
- Personally, I think he looks great, although he appears younger than expected.
- Don't worry, he's still Chris

Sounds good. I have my doubts about Alfred being the same fruit loop though. Maybe the "significant improvements" will be a slower descent into loopiness instead of going ham right out the gate.
If this is true, it's basically a direct sequel to 2R in the same way that CV is a direct sequel to 2 and I'm absolutely fine with that. It's what I've been hoping for. Improve where needed, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Pulling another 3R is a mistake Capcom shouldn't ever make again.

I'm also fine with Alfred being a fruit loop off the bat, because he's been descending into madness for quite some time before we get there. A slow descent would be a very quick descent if it only happens throughout the course of the game.

So hyped for this, I've been day 1 on every Resident Evil since the original. Though I had Code Veronica on Dreamcast my memory of it is fuzzy plus these remakes always add/switch some stuff around anyway, it will be like playing a whole new game 👌

We will see about that, but when it comes to this franchise I am very sensible.

Yeah, this is great news for me. I thought RE4/RE4R was too long. I like my RE games in the 6-10 hour range otherwise I feel like they outstay their welcome.

I know I will be clowned for saying this, but ...

I never had a problem with Steve and his sentimental moments really got me. I tear up when he died (mostly due to the music, Claire's reaction and her voice acting), and I thought that him killing a particular zombie was really well-done. I mean, sure, I was like 20 at the time, but I love those cutscenes.

I get the complaints, and I hope to mature the voice acting and whatnot, but ...

I never hated Steve. Never.

I get the feeling some of the hate is people jumping on the bandwagon.
