Resistance 3 Beta : Impressions and Discussion

No one misread your response. Again - as you have done countless times in the past - you freaked out over a comment you perceived as hostile towards this franchise and its creator. I have participated in many betas in the last few years and I have never played a beta that was this buggy this close to release. I am hopeful that the team has resolved all the issues but I am extremely skeptical. In fact, if someone was interested in this game solely for multi it would probably be a good idea to wait a few weeks to see how things shake out.

Wait, how buggy is it?

Buggy.

As in, matchmaking is broken, game dc's randomly, invite people to your private match only to have their name show up 3-4 times in the list of current players. Guns floating in the air when dropped..etc

Any game-breaking map glitches?

I'm pretty sure the guns are suppose to be floating.

Sounds like fun!

But no f'n way I'll play R2's single-player again, so maybe a handful of matches in co-op?

Let me know the time if you guys are playing. Or send me an XMB message. PSN ID is patsu.

Anyone else have this issue?

After I get in and go to matchmaking there is just a black bar where I should be able to select Team Deathmatch and the other one. At the bottom of the notebook piece of paper where I should be able to select the type of match I want it says undefined.

I really don't want to have to download this again and download the massive update so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was hoping to get in some time with this beta over the weekend but matchmaking was down the entire time. I know this is just a beta but I hope these technical difficulties don't hurt Resistance 3's chance of success, the game really needs some momentum.

Grrr.... I am thinking James Stevenson should be invited to the GAF chatroom. That way he can get GAF testers to organize games quickly.

pwonager and folks are permanently in the chatroom anyway. :-P

Going into the room to summon them GAF "Eidolons" for help is a great feature. Yesterday's 1-hit kill private game is strange though. Don't know why people want to create a 1-hit kill R3 game. >_<

GAF... chatroom?

Yes, you'll need to accept my friends request first. After accepting my chatroom invite, you can drop me from your friends list. You'll see me and a couple of others in the chatroom anyway.

I sent the invite. jstevenson might as well get Sony to bulk add all the R3 GAF beta guys into the chatroom. Save me lots of trouble this way. ^_^

EDIT: Okie Adam Blade is in.

Are you guys using the PSN Chat? Gonna try to join then.

Resistance 3 Multiplayer Map Reveal: Alice Springs
Today we’re revealing the fourth of our major 16-player maps for Resistance 3. This map brings the fight to the Australian Outback, as the Main Street of Alice Springs, Australia is our latest MP map. Situated in the Northern Territory of Australia, Alice Springs is a sun-baked, dusty, desert town in Australia.

The land down under has always had an interesting place in the lore of Resistance, being the site of a gigantic refugee camp called Avalon One, and for years remaining a safe Haven even as Europe fell. Unfortunately, the enormous amount of refugees strained food supplies, and Civil War erupted in 1952. Eventually, as with everywhere else on the planet, the Chimera arrived. Now the remnants of civilization on the continent fight back in one of the most inhospitable climates to the Chimeran menace.

The Alice Springs map is one of my favorite maps for its small town feel, with many small interiors perfect for close-quarters combat.

Still want to play this... SP Demo is kind of promising, but I'm really confused about MP. There are some really conflicting reactions in this thread :)

Still waiting for you to accept the friend request before I can send you the chatroom invite ! At the rate I'm going, it'd be 21st century before I add enough Gaffers to the chatroom. XD

People already in the chatroom should just invite more Gaffers.

I felt and still feel the same way. A little too many options for my taste but whatever... 8^(

An update on R3 Beta, Matchmaking and Patch 2.01
Posted on August 9, 2011

Hey folks,

As you are by-now well aware, we hit a rough patch over the last week with the Resistance 3 Online Beta. The expansion to the hundreds of thousands of SOCOM4 users revealed some bugs that we’ve been rapidly working to correct on our side. We greatly appreciate your patience, and the way you’ve banded together to create private games via Twitter, Facebook and forums.

Rest assured, creating a world-class multiplayer experience is our top priority at Insomniac Games. Our team is meeting daily to discuss issues and address them, and we’ve been playing the beta each night at home to continue logging and checking issues. We are focused on creating an experience we are proud of and want to play ourselves, and we will continue to work and fix these issues in order to get it right.

Europe PlayStation Plus

Tomorrow (Wednesday), the beta opens up in Europe for Early Access to the Public Beta, starting with PlayStation Plus subscribers. We’ve updated the package file on the PSN store to have the latest beta contents, meaning EU and future testers won’t need to download the mega-patch that our US testers did. This also means that everyone needs a small patch to ensure compatibility. You’ll see this patch required tonight or tomorrow, and it will be update 2.00.

Matchmaking

In good news, we have sent a patch (Update 2.01) that addresses the matchmaking issues into final testing at Sony, and are hoping to have it up by tomorrow night UK time, so that you EU folks joining the beta should be able to matchmake. This additional patch will be required, and will allow us to re-enable matchmaking, which should again (hopefully) happen sometime in the late morning Pacific Time tomorrow. This should address the issues and allow you to use matchmaking to find games again, while also addressing a few crashes. Thanks for your patience while we developed and fixed the issue – and please continue to report any issues you find with matchmaking to us so we can continue to tweak and optimize. We will continue to update you on the status of the 2.01 patch as it gets through final testing, staging, and release in the next day or so.

Stats coming down again

Sometime this (Tuesday) afternoon, we will be bringing down stat progression again until further notice. We are moving the stat database and tracking to the servers where they will live for the launch of the final game (and before you ask, yes, you will have to start over in the final game). That said, we’ll be porting your current beta stats to this new server and getting it set-up as quickly as possible. We know this is frustrating to the new folks joining the beta tomorrow in that you will not be able to progress, but we hope to knock this out as quickly as possible so you can begin to work your way up to the beta level cap, and we don’t expect this to last more than a day or two. We’ll keep you update when progression officially goes down, and when it is restored.

Outstanding issues

The matchmaking patch is a specific patch to deal with that issue (and a few crashes). We are also still testing a larger Day 1 Patch for the final game that contains fixes for many of the other bugs you’ve been encountering. Once we’ve gotten than patch through Sony final testing, we will then try to bring these fixes to the beta itself.

Some of the issues this includes are:

-Freezes/Crashes – particularly at the end of matches (though scoreboard crashes should be fixed in the 2.01 patch)
-Host/Party Leader rapidly changing between players
-Game has already ended errors when trying to join a game
-Lag issues with deployables and other players (though this should be improved at the moment, we will be adjusting our servers to continuing combating this)
-The Invisible Man glitch (both variants, where the Invisible player appears and doesn’t appear on the scoreboard) – we are still working to eradicate this – if you have a way to reproduce it, we are offering a bounty on info to help us eliminate it.

As you can see, we still have our work cut out for us, but we’re making progress. If you have feedback, please continue to post on the forums, send us replies via Twitter, or post on our Facebook wall. We’re all working hard to ensure Resistance 3 multiplayer is excellent, and your feedback is critical for that.
