Resistance 3 Previews and footage hitting the web

Indeed. More games need them.

Modern Warfare 2 gave you the Museum to try things out and I'll love em forever for it. Bot modes also work for testing.

I've been totally avoiding R3 stuff, can I ask if 2's co-op mode will be included? Other than MAG, R2 was the shooter I spent the most time with this gen. I loved it, especially the co-op.

No only single player co-op.

I just found that on youtube, I didn't knew some Move footage was shown too. It looks like some very early "Move build", the bounding box is almost as big as the screen, and the crosshair is horrible. But so were KZ3 first Move gameplay footage, and we know how great KZ3 turned out to be with Move.

Thanks for the link.

Yeah that reticule looks terrible and compared to Killzone 3 they went for a fixed vertical axis for the gun model (it doesn't move across the bottom of the screen as you aim left and right). Edit: as for camera control looks like your usual bounding box solution.

Other than that, it's hard to tell how it feels without checking for yourself and fiddling with the options (which are usually set to "braindead casual" by default). The fact that is being demoed with the Sharp Shooter crippling attachment doesn't help either.

Resistance 3 Lab Video Series #2: Dash Ability
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc094FXy9c4&feature=feedu

Sorry Fersis :p
Only thing that bugs me about this video is there you have this Chimera going merrily along "dur de dur", then gets shot in the back with a friggin shotgun which seems to have zero effect*. He just continues his merry way "dur de dur".

* Except for massive blood loss, but why should they let that disturb their concentration, eh?

There is a similar area in the first level of the game where you get your first weapons. Though the idea in the fiction is that this test range (and the films themselves) are found footage. I wanted to kind of go for a mix between the Dharma initiative films from Lost and the weapon test chamber from District 9.

There are videos like this for every weapon in the game as well as all of the active MP abilities. They play inside your journal every time you pick up a new weapon. You should see more of them popping up online between now and when the game hits in September.

Since we wanted to keep the upgraded functionalities as surprises for the player, these videos will only demonstrate level 1 weapons. Remember, each weapon goes up to level 3 :)

For example, once the Mutator is at level 2, the infected Chimera will start running and charge any other enemies in the area. The AI will freak out and either run from him or try to shoot him before he explodes and infects everyone in the area of effect. It can get pretty gnarly :)

I'm glad they're bringing the weapon wheel back. I enjoyed two, but not as much as one. It looks like they're going back to their roots with this one a little. Graphics look nice too.

Can't wait.

So am I. The one and only thing I wish, is that they would have brought back the health system of RFoM, but I think R3's health pack system is better than R2's regenerating health.

September can't come soon enough.

I like the sound of that. Are there Dharma-like voice commentaries as well in those vids? :D

Looks good but it sounds like enemies are dying 3 inches from your face even if they're 50 feet away haha I'm sure they'll fix it though :]

Man, this just looks so darn good, and the atmosphere just keeps getting better and better with each video I watch. The Stalker video was awesome, because now it's way crazier with it's fast movement. Yeah, I'm definitely impressed.

looking good to me!

this lol, I got the 10k kills trophy (and Platinum) for a reason... to get into the R3 beta!! yesterday Sony Spain emailed me 2 codes for the Journey public beta so who knows... maybe I'll be lucky again for R3b...

You know, I should probably go get those last three for the Plat. People still playing online?

I'd love to see a throwback to the older Ratchet commercials, only this time set along more serious tones. I always feel like R1 and Ratchet's weapons are really underrated despite being really good.

Please add the Splitter and Reapers back

Looks real good, jstevenson. I get a bit of a r1 vibe from the footage, which is a good thing for me. Seems very gritty and the atmosphere seems pretty damn cool. Now if only you guys would bring a steelbook limited edition over the states . . . :(

Dang! only 3 levels??

Any hope for a new game+ mode?

I loved the first and really enjoyed the second, and I dont think I have ever played a bad Insomniac game, so this is an auto purchase for me, Im gonna try and avoid media so I dont ruin too much, like I did with R2.

It looks pretty fun.

Don't like the hud though, and I still feel that while R2's playercount may have been too big, 16 players just seems too small.

Still, both the campain and multiplayer look like a lot of fun so far.

Well I follow the lore and I wasn't sure they came from space either.
Near the end of 2, you find out (I think)
that the current chimera infection comes from experiments where they were injecting people with the DNA of some ancient race. The story was that there used to be two races on Earth waging war, the 'old chimera' and some other race (not made clear) If they said at that point the chimera are from space I didn't realize that. The other race destroyed the chimera with the network of towers that the chimera have been digging up since the first game. Their goal is to use those towers to bring the original chimera back. They failed but it's still unclear to me if either of the two races, chimera included, were ever from space of Earth

Kinda sorta.

The Chimera are definitely from space from the lore of the first 2 games. One of the pieces of intel from the Co-op campaign pretty much spells it out. A scientist talks with Malikov, who has a theory about Earth being an outpost in an interstellar war, one that the original Chimera lost (thanks to the Prometheus Weapon). The network of towers was supposed to move earth to a different part of space, which was Dadedalus' grand plan and it worked. That last shot of R2 is a different sky. Bunch of other stuff in there--Malikov actually commits suicide, most of the world is overrun, and everyone in Hawaii vanishes a few days after seeing a different sky.

That said, I don't know how much of this is being used, as there's at least one thing in that spoiler that has changed.

UC3 is five on five and it's fine...

Just wanted to say that R3 is looking awesomer and awesomer everytime i read something new about it.

OK IM BAILING OUT! MEDIA BLACKOUT STARTS NAO!
Gonna play the hell out of the beta :3

I mean, this seems harmless enough, and if GAF is fine with it so be it, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with developer employees making GAF info summary threads with super-glowing quotes included in the OP.

It's nothing personal, and it isn't like I'm outraged or anything. It's just... icky.

No text or VO. Easier for localization. We tried to make them as visually descriptive as possible. Luckily most weapons and abilities speak for themselves :)

I feel ya, though I keep my thread starting to a bare minimum (our podcasts, the EA announcement). There were like four Resistance 3 threads with different previews, and lots of good new info - seemed to be worth consolidating.

Fair enough. Thanks :)

Although campaign co-op is in which is great, would have been great for the R2 co-op to be in also. It was wonderful, easily the best co-op action on PS3, why drop something that was so so good? This game is very pretty though, that extra year of dev time is showing.

Well at least we have a nice big target in case we end up throwing spoiled fruit and feces.

So far so good though :)

I'm pretty shocked to hear that from Justin McElroy (Joystiq)

Definitely raised my interest level.

New game+ already confirmed, you will not be able to upgrade all you weapons during one playthough.

The follow up question to that is, will NG+ be restricted by difficulty level? Or will you be able to take your upgraded weapons to harder difficulties?

Yeah, but Resistance isn't really much like Uncharted. I mean, I know 16 is the gold standard at this point, but going from 60 to 16 is a pretty huge drop.

I don't know, I just feel like 24 or 32 might've been a better idea, but then again, I haven't played the game yet.
