Resistance: Burning Skies - Single Player Mode (VITA)

Models are not at the ps3 level but they look good.

Nofi, about the vertical versus horizontal speed of the reticule. Wasn't there an option to change it?

edit: Loved that they kept the heat sink explosions.

Nope. Just an overall sensitivity and the acceleration option.

Thanks. Control issues and short campaign are damning to a gamer like me that doesn't invest too much in multiplayer... Hmmmm this one I'll decide post-release to buy or not.

"so we're really trying to show this from the perspective of a civilian during the initial invasion rather than the military slant of the previous games"

*Player Character immediately proceeds to pull out an Assault Rifle for no apparent reason* :/

It's obviously an alien weapon, notice the little lights on it. They probably have it equipped in the demo to show off shooting, in the game you would probably be able to pick it up from a dead alien later I'm guessing.

I'm the same.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, there's no NDA/embargo on this code.

This looks like complete crap imo. Sony is just wasting their time and money on third rate developers working on a dead franchise instead of coming up with a new take on portable fps.

This reminds me of Turning Point honestly, if this is the best Sony can do to try and convince the typical bro gamer to buy a Vita then they are in trouble!

I was just curious about the use of the weapon wheel and level design. Could the weapon wheel give a more "sandboxy" feel to some levels or the levels are just that constricted to make us use it just when we deplete the ammo of the weapon in use? I had much fun in R3 changing back and forth the weapons giving it almost an arcade feeling like the Ratchet and Clank games.

For the love of god... Please don't turn this into a vita us already dead thread again.

Resistance has it's crowd. It's far from the best the Vita has to offer.

I might not know much about the game, but i do know that your "opinion" is the one that is complete crap.

On topic, game looks much improved from its initial showing....looking forward to a demo.

Me too, loved the way the guns worked in R3. It's similar here, but because the enemies and guns are just thrown at you without much in the way of introduction, it's not obvious what's for what. In fact, it doesn't really matter.

That said, the Gray Tech cubes might add a fair bit to the sandbox feel.

Are those psp quality screen an old version of the game ? This is weird when you see only giant super sampled bs captures and giga low rez crappy ones on the other side...

SCEE supplied new screens, but those aren't them. Old version, probably.

"Graphically, we're really showing a lot of the same features as the PS3 version..."

I lol'd. Sony, put your real teams on Vita making real entries to your franchises, please! There's no reason for a major Vita game to have souped-up Wii graphics...

I agree. There is a very small amount of 'obvious' shader usage and shadow implementation. Supped-up Wii game indeed... :[

More than that it's beginning to be a tad boring that lots of Vita games have the bullshot treatment. It's not a problem when it's an obvious bs, but in that case Vita has its "ps3 like quality" reputation and they try to keep it, but every game tends to be a downgrade in the end. Even Tekken vs Street had PS3 footage in the trailer, and Uncharted screens were certainly not showing the low rez till the release. This bullshit certainly won't help the console... It gives the feeling it tries to be something it's not.

Exactly. When a downloadable title like Super Stardust Delta is a more impressive display of graphical fidelity than most retail games is when you have a problem.

But I'll give the Vita a couple of months of leeway just as I have for the 3ds.

The PS3 version of Stardust looks a lot better than a lot of retail games too. :p

In a lot of ways, they ARE exceeding what was done in Resistance 1 and 2. The lighting and shadowing engine is more advanced (environment shadows are cast across objects unlike R1 and 2), for instance, as neither of those games feature proper shadows. R1 also has very low resolution textures.

Of course, the geometry complexity generally much lower.

As you note, however, they need better teams on these games. I think Bend did an awesome job with Uncharted as a launch title, but this looks quite a bit worse. At least it finally appears to be running smoothly.

I like the way the developer says they're focusing more on the civilian point of view rather than being schewed towards the military, just as the player whips out an enormous gun that fills half the screen.

I'm almost positive that's a dev debug glitch.

Not that it really matters I suppose since you get the gun a minute or two later.

Sure, but that's hardly a glowing recommendation.
True, but to me, it shows that there is actually attention being given to framerate. A lot of games show up a year before release with a shit framerate only to release with, you guessed, the same shit framerate.

Silent Hill Downpour, for instance, didn't improve at all from its first showings to its release.

I'm still not willing to write this one off entirely (I love the Resistance series and I need some Vita games) but everything I've seen so far looks very lackluster. The game just looks so cheap to me. It kind of screams "budget," especially after playing Resistance 3.

I'd love for something to change my mind...

I think this is what's turning me off the most. Everything just looks so fabricated and constructed, like a neat little box filled with lots of rectangular objects.

Oh yeah, not saying the fact that the player picks up a weapon in an FPS game is surprising or anything, just that the specific timing of that comment amused me.

civilians can operate guns. you wouldn't grab a weapon if an alien invasion happened?

the civilian point of view is more about taking the path a civilian would take, rather than being in an army with missions/objectives. i think it implies the game will be more about survival.

This looks great. I've got a birthday coming up soon so I might ask the wife to get me a Vita.

Two more things I'm liking is the fact that the game has a new game + mode with weapons carrying over. The other is time slowing down for grenade throws. That extra couple seconds is smart when your in the middle of a heated encounter.

This is likely why the character had instant access to a weapon during the first few moments. They probably had the demo set to New Game+ so that they could show off the variety of weapons.

"so we're really trying to show this from the perspective of a civilian during the initial invasion rather than the military slant of the previous games"

*Player Character immediately proceeds to pull out an Assault Rifle for no apparent reason* :/

Good, I wasn't the only one to notice that.

Are civilian AI always this stupid?

It's programmed to run the fuck away, so it's about the most stupid AI you can think of.

Enemies seem pretty slow to react to the player...and combat in general doesn't look exciting at all. Looks like level design will be very enclosed and linear, if the footage is anything to go by. I'll delay further judgement until I try the demo, but my expectations aren't very high. The series has never done much for me, though. Guess it just depends on how desperate I'll be for a new Vita game in May.

Got to hand it to the PR guy, a professional through and through

I would have immediately grabbed the vita, apologized for my bullshit and walked away in shame
