I saw that this is on sale. Does the multiplayer work at all? This was my favorite multiplayer game on xbox live and would love to revisit it

Bought this on the same day I bought my PS2 with Devil May Cry. I thought it was the absolute bollocks and looked incredible. My shiny new PS2 didn't get a look in for well over a week.

Gave it a playthrough last year, its very basic but still enjoyable.

It's a shame Microsoft never added their OG Xbox version of the game to backwards compatibility. It's a good version of the game. They own every company involved in its production, except for Nerve Software, which went out of business in 2021 (don't know if they held any rights to the Xbox version).

Don't forget this. Ran through it about a year ago for the first time in a decade. Still holds up amazingly. For me it's a 9.75/10. Just a hair away from getting into the vaunted S-Tier of True Classics. This game is more influential than it gets credit for. A big part of the bridge between FPS eras. I hope indies start churning out RTCW-likes when the FEAR-like era concludes.

This is essentially the game that got me into proper PC gaming (with a graphics card) back in 2001.
I saw it on a TV show I used to watch late at night and was amazed by how smooth it looked panning the camera around and how the graphics were.

I think I've still got the original box.

The multiplayer was good too. Then came Enemy Territory which was amazing.

I wish they'd remake this game. I tried playing it recently but it wasn't very fun and you had to download all kinds of crap to get it going, hard to determine what servers didn't have bots and had real players, etc. I think there was only one or two servers that actually had real people in it.

My favorite memories of this game were playing a wild west mod (I think you had to escort a cart of gold in a mine or something) and also a custom map called Market Garden that had a big bridge that let you climb on the beams.

RTCW Mod posted above does all that with one-click via Steam Workshop.

Fantastic game, the best Wolfenstein game to me.
Agreed, I replayed this late last year with the RTCW Mod posted above. I really wish we would get more games like this as this was simple, not overly long and really played great. It still holds up so well with that mod too in my opinion.

I have extremely fond memories of playing this on Xbox Live back in the day too. My favourite era in gaming personally.

Interesting! Do you recall any anecdotes about your testing experience?
We had this one guy that would like chug a bunch of mountain dew and sometimes just straight up fall asleep in his chair.
Somebody dared him to drink a whole gallon of milk at lunch, and if he could hold it down, he would get a $100. There was a park near the office, and about 20 of us walked down there to watch him make the attempt.
He got pretty close to finishing it, but he couldn't keep it down and puked it all up. So... yeah sometimes we would do stupid shit like that for fun, lol.

As for the game itself, it was actually a pretty smooth project. We mostly tested the MP mode since Xbox Live was still a pretty new thing back then. We tested in the same room as the guys that were on Soldier of Fortune 2. So sometimes we would get in on their stress tests.
