Reused sounds effects in games

Reusing sound effects within franchises is fine, they help make the franchise what it is.

or even within a developer.

I really liked quintet's sound effects. A lot of the actraiser sound effects were in Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia for example. It adds that little moment of 'where did I hear that befo...oooooh yeay :)' moment.

Alot of the N64 Rare sounds were used in movies, commercials etc.

I remember hearing Goldeneye dying effects used in many broad arenas. And the beggining "children laughing" on the Rare logo on Diddy Kong Racing was used 100s of times.

I also remember the wind sound from FF6 was used in Chrono Trigger.

Dont get me started on that sword slice sound that is used in like every sword anime ever made. If you dont watch anime, you can hear the sound in Kirby's Super Star when you are knight kirby.:D

The kids cheering sound effect that plays when a baby is born in Viva Pinata is the same that plays when you headshot a grunt with the "Grunt Birthday Party" skull turned on in Halo 3.

I'm 99% sure that they used a sound effect from the second episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex in Command & Conquer Renegade. Or vise versa.

yeah, I really liked 90's squares repeated sound effects.

the cursor beep for example.

the wind especially. I liked that.

The dolphin chatter and jaguar roar are the two animal sounds that always depress me. It's been the same ones for ages. Also, police radio chatter.

There's this particular sound effect I recall hearing all over the place. I'm not sure if it has a name... or even what it is...

but it's mostly been used when a monster hurls a ball of fire or projectile from it's mouth, but it's been used for many other things as well. It has a kind of flame-ish sound to it

Help?

Edit: If I recall correctly, it was used by the final boss in Doom 2.

Edit 2: AH! Indeed. There it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iswKk0yRTdY

That sound effect's been used in so many places it's not even funny.

YES YES YES YES YES!!!

I remember hearing this in starfox adventures, and it sounded so shite, i lol'd.

It's not only games, it's movies also. Those samples are royalty free, I hear some samples both in games and movies.

For example in Jetforce Gemini from Rare, in one of the movies there is a crying baby sample, which I have heard numerous times in movies. I even heard it in a movie I watched a couple of days back.

There's another scream beside the wilhelm scream. I remember I heard it in the first Blood Omen game and in Bram Stoker's Dracula. I also heard it in many other games and movies but don't remember which ones.

You mean the James Brown scream? That is being used in a lot of movies. It's also in Independence Day when that guy flies into the big weapon before it has the chance to fire.

The Imp sound form Doom is also being reused. Even in series and movies. It's just the sound of a camel.

It actually pops up in Viva Pinata Party Animals too. I was walking by my daughters room and heard it. I instantly thought "there goes somebody's nv goggles." I have no idea what it indicates in the game though.
Heh :) It represents when someone uses the Loather Bomb in a race - It works like a Flashbang in GRAW.

I'm not the guy who put the sound effects in so I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty certain we intentionally used the Hanna Barbara-era bongo hits to indicate people running away (for when a turbo boost is activated). They're all part of some licensed library. I dunno the details. The sound effects guy is a mean drunk and he took a swing at me the last time I asked.

Natalia making a pain noise in Goldeneye, Sam Fisher's nightvision goggles and rockets being launched in Perfect Dark and the guards in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark

It's the scream at 2:09 in the video, don't know if it's James Brown, but I think I remember it from more movies than games. But I just watched Independence Day, I'm sure I would have heard it if it was in there...

Anyway, aren't there some Mario sounds used in every Mario game? I'm not sure cause I haven't played since Mario 64 but they should have kept at least the jump-sound.

Did they keep the gun-sounds in Umbrella Chronicles?

And one last question, not about sound, but about animation. Why they have to keep those stupid crab-soldier animations in Metal Gear until the bitter end? I mean, hey, it's next generation, isn't it? They're still crab people...
