RGT: Playstation 5 Pro Is COMING - PS5 Pro Performance, Ray Tracing Innovations, Release Date & Specs

On top of the fact you can hardly get your hands on a console, it barely has a library of games. It’s still in its infancy.

I’ve always said there’s a market for high end consoles, especially now with the ridiculous price of PC components. But Sony or MS could provide a real gaming PC competitor in the 799 to 999 range imo. I think a machine like that is saleable to at least 25% of the user base. Slap 50 bucks plus of profit on it and jobs a good en!

edit - but I think if you go this route it has to be a 60fps minimum machine, that’s its big selling point. You can’t be trying to pass off a supposed high end luxury machine that still plays games at 30fps.

i think Sony is very good at efficiencies within a console. They get more for less,- similar to apple design philosophy. I think the new sony raytracing patent will allow basic raytracing without tanking performance by:

-reducing resolution
-reducing framerate

and be able to sustain at least 4K 30fps. (60fps might still be hard to do). We will see.

The PS5 Pro seems pointless, especially since all current games seem to be crossgen. We are yet to take advantage of the PS5 at present.

Either way, I am not fussed. I just want to see cheaper GPUs so I can upgrade my PC for guaranteed 4K60. Not even the RTX 3080 is capable of such a feat.

Pointless to who? I'd love the option to play PS exclusives day one at 60 FPS using `Fidelity` mode. Instead of waiting ~2 years for a possible PC release.

So somehow I missed all this news. We're approaching unprecedented territory if this is true. I can't wait to see how Sony and MS manage to balance providing the people what they want vs. keeping developers sane. Especially if they start adding lots of custom things like the rumors suggest.

All GPU makers will switch to the superior 5nm architecture by Q4 this year.
Last gen 7nm GPUs will look horrible in term of power draw and performance.
Console makers surely won't be left behind and pro refresh is likely to be released sometime next year.

First part about PSVR2 is a stupid take. Software needs to be there.

Did the PS4 Pro or XB1X cause market segregation? No, they just allowed graphical enhancement of current games.
It's not a stupid take.
You don't release software first without hardware on the market...

As for PRO. We all just got ps5 recently and not even played more than few games designed purely for it. Pro now would be such a bs move

That depends on the scope of the game and the complexity of the lighting pipeline. How many RT features would the game try to implement when bandwidth will still be a problem? And saying "allow basic raytracing without tanking performance" is absolutely underestimating the complexity of RT. We should stop thinking that problems today will be fixed tomorrow. That's being very shortsighted. The problems today have been problems for many generations (i.e. proper self-occlusion and shadows per-light source, hair, foliage, FX without using 2D sprite cards, etc..)

Choice is good.

Personally I would have purchased a more premium, higher price point SKU at launch if that was an option. I'll bet there are a number of enthusiasts out there that don't wanna go the PC route that feel the same.

With that being said I don't believe we have actually seen games released that take full advantage of the current hardware feature set. That is certainly more than true for the Series X. Until then it would be great to get my hands on a Pro tier device with the power to brute force these cross-gen and last-gen games. Microsoft probably have the easier job with a Pro tier Series device as they don't have the same hardware based back compatibility constraints as Sony.

I don't expect any changes on the CPU side of things but give me all the GPU you can fit on the die, no disabled CU (I'm looking at you Microsoft o.o), more RAM at a higher bandwidth and more capable RT performance and I am good. Add to that a proper implementation at system level of DLSS or XeSS equivalent (not FSR) and I'll gleefully give you my money. That isn't too much to ask is it?

PS5 and XsX|S gotta get their sales number up so the new hardware (zen2/RDNA2/SSD) can be fully utilized, and break from the shackles of potato jaguar. With that being said, PS5 and XsX|S will officially start when PS5Pro and XsXPro are released :messenger_grinning_squinting:

We must have been serrated at birth lol. Agree 100% with all of this.

Does anyone know any games where Raytracing for PS5 and XsX|S really stands out? It seems so subtle to me.
That was always going to be the case, and I would argue ray-tracing is still in its infancy - even on PC.

And it's going to be years before most studios completely change their current lighting pipelines for ray-tracing. But they'll still need to factor in legacy GPUs.

I for one am excited about the possibility of a PS5 pro. The PS5 is already a good value, as for $500 there is no comparable gaming PC. I know that it does not compete with current gen video cards performance wise, but that isn't a fair comparison with regard to cost or power draw. If done properly, a PS5 pro unit that could beast through and live up to the 4k60 level we all want seems like it could be worth it.

Wishful thinking. The PS5 Pro (if there even is one) is not going to be a totally different architecture so don't expect PS6 performance (whatever that may be).

Speaking of VR hardware...

Just ignore my post, doesn't have anything to do with anything. Just quoted you as an excuse to post a picture of the move controller, lol.

Lol.

You can have a 100TF GPU with 128GB of RAM, if a dev chooses graphical fidelity over fps, you will still be stuck with 30 and 60fps. Are you new here?

We haven't reached the potential of PS5 yet, not even close.
I will ignore the stupidly arrogant parts of your post.

If they make a ps5 pro, we will have performance plus quality mode, as the base ps5 will still need to run the games. That would be great.

Shouldn’t they be trying to get more ps5’s in stores before even considering this lol. Will we ever be able to go to a store and buy one. Lmao.

By the time that happens, let's say next year, the RTX 20 series will be 5 years old.

The PS5 doesn’t aim to compete with insanely over priced enthusiast graphics cards.
I was responding to the part where they need to factor in legacy non-RT gpus.

Other than the shortage, you can step into a good gpu for less than a console with the 3060 or 3060ti. Of course you have to factor the rest of the computer, but you need to own one anyway.

And what part is that? People need to let go of this stupid idea that games don't evolve with hardware. If that was the case, we would be playing PS1 games at 1200fps on our PS5 today. They will just keep pushing polygons, lighting, effects, pixels to the point it runs decently/fine.

ps5pro and XSX pro will be needed in 2024+ when games will be really demanding , you can forget about 4k high details on the base consoles , they will either have to lower the resolution or lower the settings , just looks at a game like the witcher 3 how it looks on the ps4 compared to pc medium-high settings
and those that cant find a ps5 you can come in my country Romania to buy , since they released they never went out of stock

all the talk about "can't even buy a console now so it'll never happen" is pointless now. the series s has been available quite easily since it launched. the series x is now easy to get a hold of. it's only the PS5 that is an issue now...it has improved but you can't just "walk into a store" or randomly go online and buy it.

in another year or so things should hopefully be much better. if not then it would really be an amazing opportunity for microsoft :messenger_tears_of_joy: while people are struggling to get hold of a PS5 they could give the series s a price cut and put out a slim series x model also with a price cut and a series "z" pro model.

right now here in the uk the prices, assuming you can get a ps5 for retail price, are:

series s - £250
ps5 digital - £350
series x - £450
ps5 disc - £450

microsoft could do something like:

series s - £200
series x - £320-350
ps5 digital - £350
ps5 disc - £450
series "z" - £450

they could undercut PS5 completely and replace the series x with a more powerful console. last time the PS4 Pro got the headstart over the One X but if MS are smart they could do the same to Sony this time around.
