The 47-year-old presenter was taking part in a race in an electric car for Amazon Prime show The Grand Tour.

Mr Hammond "climbed out of the car himself before the vehicle burst into flames," the show said in a statement.

The show's statement said: "Richard Hammond was involved in a serious crash after completing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland in a Rimac Concept One, an electric super car built in Croatia, during filming for The Grand Tour Season 2 on Amazon Prime, but very fortunately suffered no serious injury."

Oh Christ.

A guy on reddit has a possible cause.

"I heard about the Rimac Concept One from car personality, Salomondrin. From what I could tell, it had been tested thoroughly and was very balanced when driven. It had a pretty intelligent computer system that manages torque between the four wheels and whatnot.
However, they did not take it on a run as stressful as the hillclimb TGT was doing with it and from what /u/SeraphTwo says, it seems it could put a great deal of stress on a lot of cars."

Probably looks worse than it was because it burst into flames after Richard got out, but still a crazy accident. Richard is lucky!

So that's why they were all on Twitter looking for a replacement part. They might need more than just the one...

Glad he's ok.

An electric supercar built in Croatia....yea I dont know if Id drive that.

Why would that mean anything? Rimac has had excellent reviews from all over (given it's a concept) and has been one of the fastest (at a time THE fastest) electric supercar ever made. The biggest complaint people had with it was with steering at high speeds but given the strength of this thing it isn't surprising in the slightest. (Driveclub players know what I'm talking about, the car is featured there)

Wait, what? The car was Alejandro's or did I read that wrong? I didn't know he had one of those, the latest of his I had seen is the G wagon and the McLaren.

I hope the recovery is quick and complete.

That looked like a disaster in the making though. Monster car on a dangerous course.
