Ridge Racer 7 pics at Game Watch

this looks really nice. i've never played a ridge racers game but if this is the only racing game out that i'm interested in when ps3 comes along, i'll probably get it.

Looks slightly better than RR6. I think someone mentioned it earlier, sony fanboys are so eager to blow their load its ridiculous. The "proof" that ps3 is much more powerful than 360 may yet come, this sure as hell isnt it.

Only a certain faction keeps bringing up 360 vs. PS3, and it's not the sony one, i'll tell you.

From the interview on IGN:

The magazine first asked Teramoto to explain the differences between the Xbox 360 Ridge Racer 6 and the PS3 Ridge Racer 7. The development staff is for the most part the same for both games, Teramoto noted. "When actually getting our hands on the PS3 hardware," he explained, "as we gained a deeper understanding of what things we could realize, it was clear that we could realize something different from 6." It was with this realization that the team decided to make a new entry in the series.

Teramoto and crew believe that the Cell and RSX chips give them the chance to achieve a "Feeling of Ridge Racer" better than they were able to in Ridge Racer 6. This includes the feeling of speed and a refreshing, good play feel that you instantly get when starting play.

The PS3's power could be used for realistic physics, but that wouldn't very Ridge Racer, explained Teramoto. "The PS3's power will be used for various effects, and things that take place both on and around the course. If we use the Cell's computational power for these areas, we believe we'll be able to make a Ridge Racer like never before."

Yeah, there isn't much info around right now. The article at Impress Watch, for example, only contains the information discussed in the magazine article from last week and notes that you should anticipate more information at E3.

All we know now is that it includes 20 tracks, more than 160 events, online team play, and car customization (both style and performance). I simply hope they decide to ramp up the difficulty a bit faster this time. RR6 and Ridge Racers remained easy for FAR too long...

The comment about the trailer was interesting in terms of what we're actually looking at, or not looking as the case may be. They mention that while it includes elements from RR7, by it's name it's an attempt to see what a RR game will be like in 4 years time, when "developers and gamers are pushing the system". I take that as a reference to the concepts presented in the trailer relating to online etc. as much as the graphics - though I think probably everything but the city shots probably aren't realtime, and even the city stuff looks a bit touched up (or just ultra clean, whichever you prefer).

I wonder how far along the game actually is? I guess we'll find out soon, but I'm not as sure as some others seem to be that it'll be a launch title..

Sabatoge 360?

this article means 2 things
1- RR7 is ps3 exclusive [ the developers talking about the Cell and stuff and dissing the 360 in respected way] when he said
A- Teramoto and crew believe that the Cell and RSX chips give them the chance to achieve a "Feeling of Ridge Racer" better than they were able to in Ridge Racer 6."

B- "When actually getting our hands on the PS3 hardware," he explained, "as we gained a deeper understanding of what things we could realize, it was clear that we could realize something different from 6." It was with this realization that the team decided to make a new entry in the series"

2- sabatoge 360 to the heart even the blind can see it

If they were reusing RR6 assets, then I can see them making launch. If not, this game would still be pretty early in development, no?

That's your personal interpretation, not what they stated which is pretty clear, the PS3 hardware allows them to do more than RR6 on 360 so they want to make a full sequel instead of a porting of 6th.

That's your interpretation.. to me it sounds like RR6 was the bad 'ramping up' period all companies are facing in the transition to Next Gen and their programmers, artists etc were more familiar with next gen techniques by the time they got their hands on ps3.

Whatever, this still looks decidedly average.

They could be suing some RR6 assets, but its becoming pretty clear that this isn't some quick port with a new number slapped onto it that some were saying it'd be in the original thread posted about this game.

I guess we'lll see what they have in store.

Actually I read that as

"PS3 is great, it allows us to make a better feeling RR game -cause the 360 proved incapable here where, oddly enough, the PS1 and PS2 could also provide that 'feeling'- and include things like advanced physics. BUT we're not going to use advance physics and other things RR doesn't need...

...

Oh yeah and the online is going to be super friggin sweet, even though we neglected that on the 360, where it can be argued such features are it's strength.

Look man, it's Sony! LOLZ."

Anyone who really believes, after all this, that PS3 has som eexceeding power that's going to allow some amazing impossible gameplay elements, in an arcade racer nonetheless, over 360 must be delusional.

The reason there is a RR7 is because it's RR. RR always launches with Sony. People (in Japan) line up for it. Simple as that.

Hasn't read the authors' quote

Yeah what kind of crap is it? I mean I dont care to see how the game will look for in 4 years if wii cant play this game. Obviously I miss something or what they are going to show at E3 is not the game but what they believe achievable in 4 years?...

:/

or reading comprehension FTL... :(

It depends totally on what they mean by that. In terms of game concept or graphically, or..?

Terming the city shots to be from a "technical test" suggests they're running off hardware for that part at least (if perhaps, "cleaned up"..maybe not, but they seem very clean to me).

Well I think they will simply show a CG trailer, or the "overly famous target render" crap but when they will show the game at the next TGS, It will be barely superior to RR6. Not I dont mind, I think RR6 looks good, but I just dont like PR crap like this...

That makes sense and then it'll be playable at TGS or Sony's PS3 show later this year. Although I wonder if it'll be further in development than Ridge Racers when it was first shown where you raced in a first person view because they hadn't finished the car models at that point.

From the interview on IGN:

I gotta agree with the thought that their explanation on RR7 is just ridiculous.

Q: Why did you decide to go with an all new RR for PS3?

A: "Guys, PS3 will help us realize our Ridge vision better. On PS3, we can convey the feeling of speed way better! 360 is not capable of conveying speed."

Q: Is there anything else?

A: "There is this happy feeling you get when you start playing right away. Impossible to translate on 360, you see!"

haha time for the xbots to start weeping..... that was sabotage 360 indeed.....but dont worry, forza 2 is just around the corner. Ridge Racer has always been a part of playstation, in fact im suprised 6 actually came out on XBOX 360.

I have RR6. While I do enjoy it, I know the majority of my fellow breathen wouldn't. That's ok, we have better racers to choose from. Judging from sales, only thing that matters to us is Soul Calibur, but if that isn't online, I doubt that that would even matter.

Looks like Ridge Racer 6 in HD but with more motion blur.

Maybe there's some new shaders that make it better in motion but I fail to see how this game is much better than RR6.

That would be the lamest concept video ever then. I expect 2010 PS3 games to take a giant shit on these pictures.

120FPS and 4D Glasses of course!

The last time Namco showed screens for an upcoming PS RR they looked pretty close to the actual game, only without jaggies. I imagine this will be the same... they'll look just like that, but add in some shimmer.

so - if this is a vision of what RR will look like in 4 years, why the fuck bother showing it to promote a game that's coming out at launch UNLESS this means RR8 in 4 years time?

Is this how it's going to be? Oh, we can't show you the game that's coming out in 7 months, but here's our artist impression of how much better PS3 games will look than the launch X360 titles in 4 years time .... ?

There's 2 sets of screens. Shots of the city are their test images for RR7, the other images on the page are from RR2010.
