Deep isn't it.
Scott's comments are indeed odd but they're irrelevant to the actual film.
What bugs me about Prometheus 2 is that it's holding back Alien 5 from coming out anytime soon.
Hell, even the story for Alien 5 apparently had to be changed because Ridley Scott didn't want any discrepancies with Prometheus 2. If the guy isn't making it connected to the Alien universe anymore, why the fuck does it even matter?!
Not really, seeing as the film does everything except spell it out and it sums up the level to which the film was exploring the 'big questions' it felt was worth raising. That's your story, and that's what everything in the film points to.
Prometheus is as deep as a puddle, it doesn't dive in because the audience's necks would break at the stupid.
That's why it's so frustrating to watch. Not really, seeing as the film does everything except spell it out and it sums up the level to which the film was exploring the 'big questions' it felt was worth raising. That's your story, and that's what everything in the film points to.

The film spelled out that humanity's creators sent an emissary during the Roman Era to bring their creations back in line and that emissary was actually Jesus?
The protagonist is Christian.
The film takes place over Christmas.
Our creators wanted to wipe as out 'around 2000 years ago'.
I wonder what prompted that after spending 4 billion years creating us?
Yep, it's Space Jesus! And how Shaw's off to find Heaven.
I haven't even seen the first, you guys keep scaring me away from it.
Maybe my film reading skills are extremely poor (they probably are) but I don't see how space jesus fits into the equation?
This movie should have been shitcanned as soon as FOX started prepping a new Alien movie. I have no idea why anybody would want another 2 hours of Scott defecating on the franchise he started.
Jesus supposedly born 2000 years ago. The film leaves the details ambiguous but if you look at what Scott and his writers have said, their concept was that Jesus was an Engineer.
When the choice is between a new ridley scott entry or blomkamp's take...who cares? They're both destined to take yet another shit on the franchise at this point
Fox prolly flipped a coin, or saw how chappie bombed and decided to go with the safer bet for success
Right I see but I don't get how that's relevant or at all impacts the events of the film itself or the ideas it explores.
It doesn't impact anything, it's just painful to know that such a stupid idea was in Ridley Scott's head when he was directing the movie.
So Jesus, one of the engineers, a god, gave us life but we crucified him.The protagonist is Christian.

It's crazy how active of a director he is. He is 77 years old.
Agreed on that part. I just don't understand why it's brought up as a criticism of the film however.
Knowing that Jesus was an alien just gives the movie a stench that's hard to ignore, it's like something from a South Park episode.
Both films will probably end up shit, but the proposed Alien 3 retcon is at least something people want, it's following Aliens and bringing back beloved characters. Making Prometheus 2 is like making a direct sequel to Alien Resurrection. Nobody wants it, nobody gives a shit about Noomi Rapace's idiot character. I'd rather watch Fassbender's head float through space for 90 minutes.

I'll happily take Prometheus 2 before Blomkamp's Aliens fanfiction.
Seeing the origins of the 'alien' itself and encountering the engineers was great in my opinion.
Me too. I even own the blu ray.I thought the first one was pretty decent so I'm down with this.
I will turn my brain off and enjoy every single one of it's beautifully directed shots.

Just rewatched Prometheus thinking in the sequel and after reading so many positive opinions in this thread, hoping I had missed something the first time i saw it. Nope, it's still a boring disaster.
Really don't understand why Scott, being as old as he is, would waste any time making a sequel.
I don't guess you liked the cornbread?
This sounds like something written by a professional movie critic.Prometheus was aggressively dumb. Beautifully shot, but I hated it. Possibly the worst excuse for sci fi I've ever seen... on the same level as Star Trek Into Darkness in terms of pure, unmitigated schlock. A movie made by and for people who never give anything a second thought.
maybe just rent the bluray and watch it on mute to some music.
