But yeah it seems all the musicians we grew up on are passing away and it just hurts to see that happen. Thank God for their music as their soul will always live on within it.

He did some really shitty stuff in his life. You may all quote the South Park excuse of "he just wanted to be a child" but the jury after the trial were pretty specific in that they thought some dodgy stuff was going on at his ranch. His "not guilty" verdict would have been a "not proven" if they had the option like in Scotland.

And I bet you all laughed at the sketches in Scary Movie.

I guess its probably a generational thing. If you are a baby-boomer, Elvis and Beatles are probably much bigger, and for Gen X and Gen Y people, Michael Jackson is bigger. I suppose all three of them are in the highest level superstardom.

News stations generally like to confirm, through their own sources, a story before calling something like this. A lot of people, including CNN, got burned in 2000 for calling the election for Gore.
 
I've followed the thread since the beginning, listening to MJ, holding out for confirmation before posting. But I guess it's time now: RIP.

He was one of the greatest artists of all time, let's just hope that's what he will be remembered for and not being "Wacko Jacko".

CNN's site is finally at least citing those reports that he has died..though they still don't seem to explicitly confirm it themselves.

They were both important to the people affected, and both as insignificant as the millions of deaths that occur every year. You'd think that would be common sense, yeah?
