Well if we start saving now… we might be able to build a new ddr5 pc in two years for under 5k.

Kind of weird that they didn't. I mean I love this outcome much more as a consumer, but if I were on the corporate end I would've demanded we had our own store.
Why? Sure, you get to keep all the revenue...but you also have all the costs too. CDN's multiplayer servers, matchmaking, friendslists, achievements, forums, support, the storefront itself. With everything Steam provides for their 20-30% (realistically 20% for a company like Sony) I can't imagine there's much to be made by going your own way.

Probably a formality that's being worked on, but some games like Horizon & GoW are still listed as Playstation Mobile Inc.
They also added four additional unpublished objects to the total count on the publisher page, there used to be 44 a week ago. Maybe "Steel PC" is one of them?

Is Sony still working with Epic and EGS? I wonder how Epic are reacting to these games selling well on steam.

We don't know what kind of deal Epic and Sony may have arrived at, as the document in question was made before any handshake. It says that Epic offered Sony "$200M MG+ for 4-6 titles" and was awaiting Sony's response. "MG" surely stands for "minimum guarantee," which is how Epic refers to these exclusivity deals: It's the minimum revenue Epic guarantees a game publisher will make with an Epic Games Store exclusive, whether or not their game actually sells enough to cover it.

Epic tried to get Sony exclusive but, so far, Sony would rather have customers than bribery cash from Tim.

Good stuff, even if its Only a name change.

I wonder if Nintendo will ever open themselves to anything other than Mobile.

We have funny situation with Steam Deck that was supposed to be switch pro haha, on which you probably will be able to play PlayStation games.

They all knew deep down that VFX was right. It's easy to go all in on someone and quietly disappear a year later after you are proven wrong.

He need to reddem and desban every Xbox fan that say Playstation Games would come to PC.

Move on with that balls licking. VFX get banned many times for console warrior besides keeping 24 hours a day port beg.

This is as clear a sign as ever that Playstation will more fully embrace PC releases of their biggest games in a way many fans once suspected they wouldn't.

I mean, this doesn't necessarily mean Playstation exclusives are coming to PC day one does it?

It's simply a name change. So it maybe means they are definitely serious about PC. But we knew that already.

Wake me up when Demon's Souls comes out on PC. Or any PS5 exclusive for that matter.

What I find absolutely hilarious are the PC players thinking Sony is just going to port everything over to PC. Like they have actually grown tired of making consoles, gotten tired of the psn+ subscription and are thinking screw the console business lets go entirely pc.

There are two reasons they are doing this:

1. Generate revenue on games which they literally are giving away (for free) to ps+ subscribers for PC players to play.

2. To hook pc players onto the PS games and entice them to buy a playstation to play the latest and greatest iterations.

This whole thing is akin to drug dealers first few samples are free, once we get you hooked come over to psn to get the real taste.

A lot of PC players out there who don't own consoles which equates to a huge market for PS PC

PlayStation is my favorite gaming brand and I'm really happy the games are coming to PC. That means more money for the divisions, which translates into more money to make even better games. Everybody wins!

I am not sure I am following your analogy but it goes like this right?

Samples: Open ecosystem, unlocked framerate and resolution, K+M support better graphics, mod potential, forward compatibility ensured

Real taste: Locked graphics options and framerates unless Sony feels like patching the game , closed ecosystem, no modding, forward compatiblity? try asking PS3 users.

This is the whole point, you can afford a PC, you played HZD1 liked it ? Well we have a console to sell you its only $500 and oh yeah you need ps+ thats $50 a year thank you very much also for buying the game for $40 on PC - you can play it for free when you take out a ps+ subscription

You think HZD2 will just drop in a year on PC ? You are dreaming they will milk it for everything on PSN and once they have absolutely sold it to everyone willing to buy on psn they will drop it on ps+ to keep incentivising ps+

Finally once they have milked all they can on ps network that game will drop for PC players as sloppy thirds - for anyone who still hasnt been baited into buying a PS console to play and hopefully the ensnare them with the upcoming HZD3 only on PSN ...

I write this on my laptop but I also have a 5950x (watercooled over clocked) but with a water-cooled overclocked 2080ti (Screw current asking prices of 3090 esp when 40xx is around the corner) - running Linux which plays all of the current PS games ported to PC perfectly :)

Hear me and rejoice! You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Titan. You may think this is suffering. No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... for even in death, you have become children of the masterrace.

Yup.

Sony knows a ton of PC gamers arent budging to console ecosystems. If the draw of console exclusives was that big, they would have already converted and bought consoles and their first party already for decades.

Now that these games are coming to PC, it makes them not budge even more. At least before, there's zero PS ports and zero PC strategy. Now, games are coming and everyone knows more PC games are coming too. And at beefed up ultra settings too. So it shows they are putting in effort to max out some PC specs.

This will entrench PC gamers more. They are a patient bunch to begin with.

How many purely PC gamers are out there on GAF who bought Days Gone or Horizon ZD, and now they're like "These were great games. I'm now going to buy a PS5 and wait for DG2 and Horizon FW"

there is more than enough copium to go around in this thread.

Unless you want your games heavily pirated going EGS exclusive is a terrible idea.

Odd you'd think a pc only person would downgrade when they could just wait. Not to mention many huge markets that don't even use consoles. Sorry buddy everything is coming over eventually.

Yep the Average card a PC player has is an Nvidia 1060...

This is an enthusiast gaming forum most of us will have better than this - but the average joe gaming on his/her/it/they/frog/turnip/cucumber/furry/picmi pc ? nah mate not likely.

Thats the thing. Console focus is a skewed focus depending on which country someone lives in. A place like the US, everyone gets consoles, has a PC, cellphone. Not sure how many people have a tablet, but compared to rest of world probably the highest penetration rate. It's like unlimited bandwidth vs. capped too.

Gaming is a growth industry and Sony's entire corporate financials hinges on PS. If this was 10 or 20 years ago, it was probably their TV division, or their reliable insurance division. But now, it's PS by far being the biggest driver of sales and profits.

And they know console unit sales saturate, they have basically zero PC market, and a lot of growth comes from other countries that are more skewed to PC gaming than people buying $300-500 consoles every generation.

So the biggest opportunity is PC ports. And the great thing about PC is it's scalable. It can be a 3000-level GPU rig gamer or some guy who plays on a modest PC at medium settings at 1080p. The game will still work.

This isn't a name change; Sony created an LLC so that all PC financials fall under it.

So Valve will be reporting revenue from PC sales to this new LLC.

This is fairly meaningful for Sony to do.

I know many PC gamers who would never buy a console and to me it seems Sony is coming to realize this fact as well and why not sell to them?

I played HZD with good performance and native m+kb without any pathetic aim assist. Will HZD2 have the same features on PS5? If not, I can´t give more than zero fucks about the PS5 version. And I bet a lot of other pc players think the same, so...

This forum is primarily for consoles and from my experience most know nothing of PC gaming. Parts have also been impossible to find and will continue to be for quite some time. Downgrade doesn't just mean graphics.

Thats fine, you will have to wait 3+ years before you get HZD2 on PC - oh btw ps5 natively supports m+kb most games support it - but a game like HZD is much better with a controller imho. FPS or strategy (civ5 anno etc) m+kb all day every day, stuff like this / platformers etc controller for me personally.

This exactly this (Actually I might have misunderstood what you were writing - I think its to entice those players playing on their generally pretty weak PCs to buy a PS not the other way around). Sony have come out and said exactly this I am sure a few months back Jim came out and laid out their whole PC plan - its all about growing PSN, its about enticing PC players onto PSN and at the same time expanding more sales of the games.

The biggest earners by far are ps+ and the console / market + ecosystem - they would have to be insane to throw that out. I think some people in here don't even grasp the basics of business. Every game purchased on psn earns sony a nice 30% cut whether it be first or third party, never mind all of the accessories and the ps+ revenue - this is _ALL_ about enticing new people onto psn. The extra money they earn by people double dipping to get it on PC to play at a higher refresh rate is just a bonus and a way to maximize profits - its not about sacrificing sales of PS to grow out PC support. We had a thread a few days back showing the massive growth of PSN / PS5 sales etc - this is what they are interested in, this is their major earner. Adding extra sales to older games for people that want to play on PC (games they no longer can make a profit on psn) is an added plus.

I hope they do make it day one. But I'd be lying if I said I'd still want a PS5 if they did. So maybe that could hurt a bit in the short term. My Xbox Series X is only being used for first and third party games I wanna play on controller or in 4k on a huge screen. There's not many at this point. I imagine my future PS5 would suffer a similar fate.

But that's just my position and I understand not everyone has a beefy PC, so I digress.

Regardless, there's no real money in hardware. Folks been saying that for years. Only the most true of fanboys see things differently.

Not really. Gaming generates the most sales, but EP&S is not far behind at all. G&NS was 27% of Sony's sales the first half of FY2021. EP&S was 25%. There isn't some massive gap between segments at Sony.

The rest of your point I agree with. Sony has to remain competitive and being restricted to PS consoles isn't going to let them do that.

HZD having aim assist for controllers already tells that it sucks on controller. Plus claw grip, weapon wheels and L3 toggle to sprint. 🤮 So, every shooter, being FPS or TPS, can burn in hell if the only option is controller...

Microsoft have said that they don't care if you buy an Xbox or not. Probably because the money is in the software, not the hardware. That probably goes for Sony too.

This ^

I'm not interested in going back to consoles, it's too limiting now. The notion that I'll play Uncharted Collection or God of War on my PC and run out to buy a $630 PS5 to play $70 Uncharted 5 or Ragnarok day one is laughable. Why would I play God of War at 120+fps with max settings, then play the sequel at 30fps at console specs? The only way Sony is selling me another game is if it's on PC and I know I'm not the only one with this mindset. If they want to wait two years to release on PC so be it, I'll gladly wait another year on top of that and buy their shit on sale for 20% of their original asking price. The thing is, on PC I have access to more games than I can play in my lifetime going back to the very beginning of the hobby. I'm doing Sony a favor buying their software so if they act like they're the ones doing me a favor I'm happy to not support them at all.

Well surely your PS5 purchase would be.. for exclusives?

And if you forgo that, to buy these same games on PC.. what exactly do you think Sony loses, vs. all they gain from the millions not in the market for consoles at all that will buy their games?

PC gamers seem to not really get that they aren't really ever going to be the lucrative market for console manufacturers, as their main gaming device is PC. Console gamers buy ALL of their games, often on a single console.. and all MTX/whatever.. and the manufacturer gets 30% cut of all of that.

If that same company isn't getting all that 3rd party goodness from you, then you buying games on PC vs. that console is really a nominal loss.
