Robert Patrick Appreciation Thread

Robert Patrick has not had the best of careers, he's been in more direct to video films then anybody with good taste (me excluded) would watch, he's been severly typecast for much of his professional life. But he's enlivened a whole heckava lotta films that are much better off due to his presence. No matter how brief the role is (did you see him in Flags of our Fathers? You must have blinked), or how obscure the film is, the guy brings his A-game out every time and is always a welcome ingredient to any cinematic stew.

So lets celebrate Robert Patrick, the guy who even made the Double Dragon movie not only watchable, but somewhat entertaining.

That's right Rob, somebody actually liked you in that movie.

Some favorite roles

X-Files, episodes Medusa, Scary Monsters

The X-Files was a great show in spite of itself. With a convoluted and usually unsatisfying overrarching storyline, the episodes most people like best are the one-offs. Two of the best the show produced made excellent use of John Doggett's character, who was a pretty good, stabilizing addition to the cast. Would the last two seasons of the show had been as good as they were without Patrick? I can't say for sure, but I sure liked him. Especially in the two aformentioned episodes, which bring the awesome to the table in generous servings.

The Sorpranos

Briefly seen, but he was funny and affecting in a few episodes as a guy who can't keep a lid on his weaknesses.

and the villian calvacade of Terminator 2, Copland, The Faculty, The Marine, and the 40 seconds he was in Die Hard 2.

lets give the man a hand.

"Ah, thanks guys, you're too kind, really."

I wholeheartedly endorse this event or product.

Seriously, Robert Patrick kicks ass and should've had more success. Though now that he's older, he is getting some good supporting parts in good movies usually staring Joaquin Phoenix.

He has been reliable, always good to see him show up. Was disappointed with how X-Files Doggett was never able to bust through the "Mulder or bust" fanbase. I thought he could have had a good run with it.

Also, I'ved enjoyed SG Atlantis, but initially was annoyed by the early exit for Patrick's character.

Though he certainly hasn't been lacking for work since anyway.

I've had at least four complete strangers stop me and tell me that I "...look like that guy from Terminator 2....not Arnold, the other guy."

that's not so bad, at least he's a good looking dude.

I've had strangers tell me I look like that nerdy guy from The West Wing.

Watching The Marine, I genuinely felt bad for Robert Patrick. Then again, I also felt genuinely bad for myself.

At least he can take solace in knowing he got to play one of the best screen villains in history. Also, he's kind of funny in Striptease.

He was awesome in the X-Files, though people don't really notice because the show itself was bottoming out. And, yeah, he wasn't Mulder.

He was also in From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money...which was on Sci-Fi last night. And like you even have to ask, it is terrible.

Such a weird actor. Most actors are stuck in crappy roles until they hit the big time or hit it big and end up in crap later in their careers, but Patrick switches between the two at any moment.

I liked the guy, but his character wasn't so great in the X-Files. I blame the writers, though. They just didn't know what they were doing. He tried the best he could.
