Robert Summa fired over Joystiq Fiasco

Matt still has a job

because unlike joystiq, IGN realizes credibility doesn't mean shit. It doesn't matter how many times you are wrong or how much you overhype things people will always buy into the next rumor/hype you put out.

also see: ******, *****, etc.

Gah. Joystiq sucks. I hope Summa gets a job somewhere 10x better. [Reading the comments is annoying. How many salivating tools could a single company ask for? Now, Peter Molyneux on Fable...that was a decent apology.

save the drama for yo mama
Holy shit some of my child hood memories just flashed back to me. :lol

It does suck for him, but the guy still had to know this wasn't "major" news. Hell, did it even need to be teased? When the pot started stirring itself out of control he also had a chance to step in and stop it but didn't. Blame's a two-way street and he unfortunately got run over. Lesson learned.

Good. I'm glad he was fired. It was a jerky thing to do. Wasted a lot of people's time. It's good that he lets us know he is going to Destructoid because now I can make a point of avoiding him by never going there. Just like I can easily avoid Howard Stern by never giving Sirius any of my money. It is makes my life better when the idiots are clearly marked and corraled in one spot.

it really is one for the record books. i advocate for joystiq to be banned in line with the recent ****** censorship

Honestly I think this plays well. It sounds sick, but Joystiq has what appears to be qualtiy leadership that doesn't put up with bullshit. I'm always for straight shooters. I like that.

Seriously, what else can they do? The only thing they could have done was prevent it from happening, which is why that guy is fired. Don't forget guys, Joystiq is part of a HUGE conglomerate of news blogs which have recently been bought up by a mega media thing. (let me check my facts here).

But seriously, they PR'd this perfect. "Hey we ****ed up, and we know it. Not only will we not let this happen again, the guy that did it won't even have a chance to do it again." Honest, two-way communication. Nobody can ask for more.

And if you guys don't see the value of a site that's attached to Engadget, you're foolish. Joystiq and co. are money makers, regardless of legitimacy.

He shouldn't have been fired just for that, but the guy sounds like an annoying tard in that post. They probably weren't fond of him before the incident.

joystiq is the worst gaming site ive ever seen it should be banned from this world and this proves there stupidity even further

IAWTP

I think Chris Grant and most of the editors at Joystiq has established themselves as a quality gaming blog and one misstep isn't going to change that.

uh to guys talking about bloggers making money.... do you honestly have any idea how much those sites pull in?

hint: a shitton... they could pay several people to write nonsense blog postings there and still make a huge profit

disgusting how a site like this could get hits and yes he deserved to be fired

Blog + professional = lol

It's cute when a blog like ****** and Joystiq try to pass themselves off as a credible source while at the same time insult the very news sources they link to. What happened to the New Games Journalism they were dribbling over a while back?

Well, regardless - sounds like everyone is much happier in the end. That's fine... I hated going to Joystiq anyways. Stupid site always triggered my web blocker due to the crap they put up.

YOUNG GAME JOURNALIST CHRONICLES

Yeah...

I'm not sure who Robert Summa is and why I should care that he tried to explain his firing on the Internet. As if it's anyone's concern but his own.

Also:

Can someone please put that video of the two idiot children dancing in some context for me? I've seen it posted a lot today, but have no idea where it's from or what's going on...

Thanks in advance.

It looks like the incident is working out for everybody. Robert gets to work at a more free-wheeling blog, and Joystiq gets to remain bland.

Everybody wins.

Also, a test: ******

do these game blog sites actually pay staff? I mean what's it rival, working part-time at mcdonalds? some loss for him

I'm not surprised if Major Nelson gets paid...

Of course he did, the entire site was MS' idea. MN wasn't just a fan who made an xbox fanboy site that got popualr so MS hopped on, he was HIRED for this.
