Anytime I see a thread about a remake I see people acting as if the remake makes the original movie worse.

despite the shitty sequels, the shitty tv series and yet to be proven remake.... i don't think much can be done to change my opinoin of the original, which is probably one of my favourite films ever.

No, however it pisses all over the original by pretending it didn't exist and that it needs improvement.

The first Robocop was an amazing action flick with plenty of stuff beneath the surface, they could've made a new sequel that expanded on that universe instead of just retelling the story we already know and love.

In other words: if it's not broke, don't fix it!

Except it's not about that. The studio execs aren't thinking "you know what sucked, but we can totally make better? Robocop." It's more of a matter of "you know what we can remake to make money? Robocop."

They already tried expanding on the universe a bunch of times, yet most people didn't like that. Why the fuck would it be a good idea to do it again?

I agree with this. Unfortunately there are a lot of fools out there who like to see the same thing over and over again.

They should have waited to see how hard Total Recall bombs before doing this. It will suffer the same fate in both quality and box office performance.

I saw the trailer for Total Recall and I am actually okay with it. Sorry to drop out on you, team hate, but at least Total Recall seems to have the looks down to something a bit more unique.

I am very curious about how this movie will play out. As someone who lives in Brazil, I'm very interested to see what a brazillian like José Padilha, who did Tropa de Elite 1 and 2, will do for the what is supposed to be an American hollywood blockbuster.

The 'series' was broke though. RoboCop 3, among others.

I don't know how to feel about this. The original is one of my favorite movies of all time. The sequels on the other hand? Absolute trash!

On paper, Robocop is the perfect candidate for a reboot. The idea behind the character and the setting is just so damn cool.

The reality is designs, practical effects, and just plain action movies are far from what they used to be when the original was released.

No matter what, despite what many of you think, if this doesn't deliver it won't retroactively make the original bad.

it would be cool if Robocop jumped on top of this, hacked into the terminal, and controlled it used it like a flying surf board. He rescues the girl and then he starts shooting all the missiles at the bad guys and crashes it onto Ed 209.

Yes but only if the whole sequence is in slow motion.

Geez, overreaction much? I think the new ED-209 design looks fine...very sleek actually. I'm hoping the new Robo will be just as agile and not the lumbering klutz of the original. Even if this remake turns out horrid, it won't taint how great and easily watchable the original still remains.

Now bring on the 6000 SUX redesign!

God that new ED-209 looks absolutely horrendous. Yuck.

This movie doesn't need to fucking exist. Just clean up the image on the original and rerelease it in theatres in 3d or some shit. Stop ruining everything Hollywood. STOP RUINING EVERYTHING.

White People Can't:

- Jump
- Make Fighting Games Caucasians saved by Mike Z.
- Design Robots

The future of rehash enforcement - Robocrap. :|

Typically against remakes but the director of this one is about the best you could hope for. Elite Squad 2 is superb. ED209 design is dreck though.

My ED-209 toy that could fire caps was one of my favorite childhood toys.

Hollywood, I hate you so much right now for doing this movie.

Sorta ot, but I just love how Robocop became popular with kids despite how violent the first two movies were.

I love stuff like this, book marked for updates! Thanks.

José Padilha is a fucking good director. I have faith that this movie will be very enjoyable.

I am really hoping this will be good to, glad I am not the only one!

GAF why do you always have to shit on my hopes and dreams?!

I guess I'm alone in thinking the new ED looks slick as hell. I want to see it in motion before I pass any real judgment though.

I doubt it. Len Wiseman is weak director while José Padilha wrote and directed the great Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) and a fantastic documentary called Ônibus 174 (Bus 174).

While that's true, there isn't exactly a strong track record for great foreign directors making Hollywood debuts.

It looks exactly like what a shitty CGI robot would look nowadays.

I expect the new Robocop design is going to be similarly bad.

Eh, after the awful two sequels, and the TV series, there's nothing this movie can do to tarnish the original. It's only real potential is to surprise me by being the second good entry in the series.

Robocop 2 was great. I never thought this was arguable.

This crap is probably going to be PG-13 to boot so we won't get to see poor Mr. Kenny get absolutely wrecked by BAY-209.

You clearly don't know anything about this film's director.

Haters are gonna eat so much crow when this is out.

The video on the OmniCorp site doesn't look any more modern than the video in the original movie. I'll wait for a real trailer but it's not a sign of change.

It shouldn't be hard to top the original RoboCop.
