RoboCop (2013) viral site; OmniCorp website

The video on the OmniCorp site doesn't look any more modern than the video in the original movie. I'll wait for a real trailer but it's not a sign of change.

It shouldn't be hard to top the original RoboCop.

The first Robocop will be very hard to top.

I'm expecting all the satire to go right out the window.

I dunno, the new ED-209 just looks like it's not actually very good for the purpose it's meant for. I mean, there's so many open "seams" in the plating that it seems like it's less protected from firearms than the original that just has traditional full-cover plating.

No, the new ED-209 is highly dangerous because it's shiny!

The new Robocop will be MORE shiny.

Youtube Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad), Tropa de Elite 2: O inimigo agora é outro (Elite Squad 2) and the documentary Ônibus 174 (Bus 174).

The fact ED-209 is now a redeployed battlefield weapon also made me facepalm.

The director may be good, but all this is pointing to a very predictable update that misses the point of the original.

Start your bitch-engines people, the NuRobo is not going to look anything like the original.

I honestly can't make sense of this design. It's so messy looking.

That Michael Bay Transformers style of design

Between this, Starship Troopers, and Total Recall, there seems to be a trend for Paul Verhooven remakes that will probably suck ass/be redundant.

Can't wait for the 2014 Showgirls remake.

and its 3x bigger than a tank? But sure, maybe they have scaled down versions too.

Remakes are lame, but we are all old enough to know that remakes/reboots have nothing to do with the original content, just name and loose association.

The problem is that ED-209 is suppose to be this slick machine, that's pleasing to the eye, looks like a house appliance but can turn into a nightmare in an instant (see boardroom scene from the original).

This new one looks like a killing machine that should look more like an iPod rather than a nightmarish walking death tank. That was the beauty of the original. It looks nice but whenever you see it, you fear it because of what it can do, not what it looks like.

And personally, I'm tired of the ''Transformer''-look where there's so much details, that it's just a shape of noise. Like the animation department took over and said we'll make everything move on it, it'll look really complex and people will go 'Wow' immediately. Like they couldn't stop designing it and now looks like nothing.

Oh well, we'll see.

Already beat this version of robocop last year.

but honestly, modern artists have made plenty great cyborg (and cyborg-looking) designs, there is not a bad chance that the new robocop looks much better than the original.

This looks dumb though, exactly what you'd expect Hollywood to do to the concept now. Complete with the shiny CGI.

Even changed from Omni Consumer Products to Omni Corps to fit with the military angle. No chance of nicely observed satire in this one.

I get the new ED-209 design.

What you have to remember about the original is that it's designed to look good and be marketable, but not work functionally.

This is kind of what they did with the new one. It's got that whole Transformers aesthetic, but it doesn't work because there's giant gaps in the armour and shit.

And yet it has already been deployed on battlefields?

You'd think military designers and the Governments who buy them would be a bit more concerned about that sort of thing than OCP and cities would have been.

This film is going to be dumb.

Plus, puppets couldn't be that complicated or it would be a pain to animate. I think the original looks too much like a toy because of that.

If it's been deployed on battlefields, you can assume that it DOES work.

I know everyone here likes Hugh Laurie but in no way is he going to be near any level that Ronny Cox did as Dick Jones.

It also looks like this ED-209 can't use the steps either.

I hope they get some real scientists to design the robots. And I hope they pay attention to the robots that are out there and are being worked on.

This is a fake corporate PR site though. If the movie is smart enough (I hope), then ED-209 shouldn't work that well in the setting.

It would never have got to the point of being made in the first place for that intention. By going military you miss the entire point of the original film.

You just know this is going to be evil money making weapons-corporation which wants even more money so sells to cities where it all goes horribly wrong until super shiny Robocop runs and backflips his way around to take everything down.

The site is PR for OC. Just like the commercials from the original movie were PR for OC's idea of a better place to live. So we really don't know how the city is in the new movie.

The good thing about this one is that they're doing much more experimentation with this one. It won't be an almost literal adaptation like how TKK turned out.

I wish Aronofsky had done it, at least then the take would be guaranteed to be interesting.

I love the original movie as much as any sane person, but that design of robocop wouldn't work anymore. How am I supposed to take a cyclops looking silver c3po who moves at half a mile an hour on his fastest setting seriously? All you have to do is strafe around him, by the time his slow ass can react you are long gone.

Whether the new movie will be any good who knows, but I'd rather see more of it before bitching and moaning like children.
