ROBOCOP |OT| Why is NeoGAF so ROBOPHOBIC?

I came in having pretty low expectations, and was surprised to end up fairly entertained. I wish the action was a little more robust, though.

He's weak against .50 CAL bullets. I was busying trying to figure out the point of turning the lights off in the room, the only explanation I can think of is that it was done to "hide" the violence and protect the PG-13 rating because beyond that it made no sense in the movie since hiding in the dark isn't really going to work with a cyborg who should have various methods of detecting people in the dark.

Yeah, I thought this detail of that entire scene was stupid as Hell.

Saw it with the wife last night. Pretty decent flick for a "sent out to die" February slot.

They missed an opportunity to finish an emotional arc with the father/son thing by not showing them
sitting on a couch watching their Redwings games
. Wanted to see that.

would have been a neat way to end the movie post credits lol.

the dark scene was odd... especially with the goggles they were using (I think active infrared?), i'm not entirely sure those would work that well on someone in 'tactical black'

Just got back from seeing the remake, I was pleasantly surprised. No, it's not as good as the original, but it's miles ahead of the terrible sequels. I liked the small nods to the original, but as others have said, the ending was pretty weak. Overall though, good flick, hoping to see an unrated Blu-Ray release.

Just finished watching this about an hour ago. Gotta say, if that ever happened to me and
I was put back together with pretty much only my head, heart and lungs, you better just kill me off since living a life like that has got to be terrible.

Just got back from seeing this finally.

I was giving this the benefit of the doubt and not jumping to conclusions here but I can say I only liked about 1/4th of this movie. I feel like the first 45 minutes or so were completely useless. So much background and explanation about stuff that didn't matter. I can't say I cared much about how they arrived at Robocop but there was soooo much of that. The meat of the movie was when
he was introduced and he became more machine than robot
. THATS your movie. I wish they would've spent more time on that. The back and forth was such a waste.

Oh well.

Now that the movie finaly showed up in Brazil, I am REALLY curious how it will go in "international" money

International box office is going to allow it to probably be profitable from its theater run, it's already at $143M world wide on a $100M production budget, generally a movie has to gross around twice, or a little more than twice its budget to turn a profit at the box office.

Pretty shitty movie. They made it a bit too serious, barely made any sense really.

The ending pissed me off even more. Some things were just illogical in a movie they tried so hard to add logic and making it all dark.

Stop it, Hollywood. Stop trying to hide your flaws behind ridiculous CGI.

I understand what challenges they must be facing and what they were going for, but the plot was weaker than anything I've seen this year.

The throwbacks were shit. The use of tech was hilarious; any movie that uses tech as a means of driving a story has no story to begin with. I rather watch CSI and its "GUI C++ Interface" than watching a movie that pretends that solution to everything is a snooze away. They expect people to fall asleep and wake up at the end because the story was driven by snores, not any plot.

Their purpose of the movie was to develop Murphy's character, and all they did was dance around just to increase the length.

The only thing good about it was the cast, the franchise and the city it was shot in.

Pretty meh movie

Needed to be rated R with more violence and swearing like the original

And what was the point of the
security guard on top of the building at the end, he just stood there while Robocop shot his boss....at least have him throw down his weapon so Robo doesn't shoot him but he just stood there

Oh also since the movie was filmed in Toronto I recognized certain buildings
the ground floor of OCP is the Toronto Convention Centre which doesn't have upper levels lol, it's mostly underground

What was with the SlJ/Novak segments? Was he in the pockets of OCP or was he just some random talking head who happened to have a wide audience? Whatver the reasons, those were the only parts of the movie that felt really out of place.

real curious what a sequel is gonna be. They can't do the same thing again... and remaking robocop2... sounds like a bad idea even if i kinda enjoyed it.

I just saw this and if it wasnt because of the fact that verhoeven directed the original I think this would be the superior film. It's really really good. You can tell the guy behind it got the right thing about Robocop and made it even more apparent. It's not surprising given his resume.

Yeah. To me, the third act fell apart and lacked a lot of scenes to fill in the stuff we have to digest
like Keaton's character acting like he did
. I could kinda see it but it needed some more meat around these parts.

BUT the rest was freakin' awesome. Loved how it has it's own voice and some of the ideas are as good if not better than the original. And to me, the original is my favorite movie of all time.

So yeah, absolutely loved it.

So I saw this today.

I'm not going to lie, I did enjoy it, despite being PG-13.

Also, Joel Kinnaman did a great job.

Suit looked awesome too.

Would see sequel.

Finally got around to see it. An entertaining film. Not as good as the original of course, but I don't think the film did a disservice to the original. It took quite a different approach to the story, and overall, I thought it worked.

Joel Kinnaman was serviceable for the Robocop reboot, but I'm still a little salty that Michael K. Williams wasn't given a chance to become Robocop.

Is it wrong to want to see a black Robocop in a predominantly black city?

I mean:

Wikipedia said:
As of the 2010 Census, the racial composition of the city was:

82.7% Black or African American;
10.6% White (7.8% non-Hispanic whites, 2.8% Hispanic whites);
3% from other races;
1.1% Asian;
2.2% from two or more races;
0.4% American Indian;
0.02% Pacific Islander.

In addition, 6.8% of the population self-identified as Hispanic or Latino, of any race, with ancestry mainly from Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Just watched it, and I agree. I dont think it hurts the series (and I am a huge fan of the originals, except 3 of course). Its attacks Robocop from a different angle and it was alright.

What makes the originals for me is the mix of violence, satire and dark humour. This one takes a more moody, serious approach. Its decent in a different way.

If you can seperate this film from its originals before you go into it, its not a bad movie in its own right.

the only problem i have with the movie is the cover art. WHY DOES HE HAVE THE CLASSIC AUTO-9 HANDGUN?! :D
