Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Save me going through all these pages, if I am to get Rock band 4 on either the PS4 or XB1, how do I export the songs from previous games and get them to RB4? Do I need a 360 or PS3 with physical copies of each game?

That depends. Have you already exported Rock Band 1, 2, Lego, and/or Green Day?

With just over 2 weeks before release, the lack of ION support news is bothersome :(

I think lack of support for RB1 instruments is worse. Theyre making a dongle, would it really be that hard to put a couple usb plugs on it as well to include rb1 support.

so close to release yet information on the game feels sloppy.

Negative. I do have a copy of RB1 on 360. If its easy, Ill get the bundle on XB1.

Rock Band 1's is easy. Just insert the game, allow it to update, and look for the option to export your tracks. There will be a $5 charge, and there are a handful of tracks that won't export (Enter Sandman, Paranoid, and Run to the Hills in the all versions, and several more in the European version).

Here the others, to give you a quick scoop.

Rock Band 2's export requires a $10 and an export code, but the only way to get working export codes now is to go to EA Support. You might have to try a few times. You would also need to redeem the code from within Rock Band 3.

Lego Rock Band and Green Day's respective exports are no longer available. However, all of the Green Day songs have been made available as DLC.

Thanks. With regards to DLC, most of it will be available to download through rock band 4 yes?

Yes:

“And this is just the start – with more than 1500 songs available on the Music Store at launch and more to come, we’re confident that Rock Band 4 will provide the best music gaming experience for fans this fall.”

Worth noting Green Day seems to work if you do have a code... I exported a month ago fine (EU PSN)

Yes, because it's not their call, as both Microsoft any Sony are very particular about using legacy USB devices due to security concerns and are very restrictive. It's not about laziness on Harmonix's part. If they went to the trouble of developing a new piece of hardware to work with wireless device and wireless instruments, surely they would have considered this. But also there are fewer RB1 devices out they're and they're pretty terrible anyway.

That's 100% due to first party not letting them do it. If they're ever allowed to support wired instruments they'll just let you plug them in directly.

Sony basically unofficially but sort of officially allowed people to make their own drivers for USB devices though, particularly in their port of USF4 on PS4.

But yeah, Microsoft on the other hand is telling people to pound sand. I wonder how many loops they had to jump through to even make the adapter.

Yep, which was due to the work of Lab Zero and a Naughty Dog employee. They just aren't there on the MS side :(

If I never got RB3 but still have my RB2 code, would that still be valid?

I haven't been keeping up with news for the game, would my PS3 GH World Tour guitar work on the PS4 version?

I bought the full band bundle after being denied the road crew.

It kind of stings to have to shell out for the full bundle even though i already have full band equipment on 360 and all the marketing vaguely says that your old instruments will work.

The stand alone legacy adapter is eminent, as is the Xbox digital copy.

I wonder if the pre-RB3 songs will stay at $1 on the XBox 360 marketplace/RB1-2-3 Music Store. I can totally see the XBox One version of the song being bumped up to the regular price of $2. I assume the existing songs will still be available to buy right? For people that still have RB1-3 there should be a 360 version out there to get. I say that to say if those stay at $1, what's stopping someone from buying the $1 version then just "upgrading" to the updated RB4 version?

So Rock Band 4 is just a little bit over 2 weeks away. Since we're so close to release, hopefully we start getting some more info on some things. Like the DLC plans. Are we getting it every week again? The online features that they said they'd talk about closer to launch. What about the RB3 export? Any new updates on that? What about the people who wanna get the adapter standalone and the digital version on the Xbox. Do they got plans for future updates already? Like online play and Ion support?

We still have tons of questions that haven't been answered yet, and the game is almost out. Hopefully we get the answers soon.

I'm probably freaking out over nothing, but....

It's been a long time since I've done the exports for Rock Band 1 and Lego Rock Band (did them through Rock Band 2, so this might be my issue) and I got on Rock Band 3 for the first time in months today (decided to grab some $1 songs), so I decided to check my "Previously Redeemed Codes" and all I see is that I previously redeemed Green Day: Rock Band and Rock Band 2

I haven't lost the exports for Rock Band 1 and Lego Rock Band, right?

You have to have the disc to download the RB1 songs. But the DL key is attached to your account. So if you get RB4 you'll be fine. With Lego, I think you gotta check your purchase history and you should see it there.

So wait, I'm going to need the Rock Band 1 disc to download those songs to Rock Band 4?

No, you only need it to do the export. I would be baffled if you needed it again. (But, since it's not unique-code-based, you could get a used copy.)

I am going all in day one because I love Harmonix and I love the franchise . But I have no illusion that we are going to get a ton of clarification before release on a lot of these details.

I assume they have every intention of supporting the game, adding modes and getting on track for weekly dlc. But I think it is going to be a bit bare on release, and it is going to need some good sales initially for them to be able to get back to where they were during the better Rock Band days.

The success of the game depends on interest this holliday, and if they can put up some sales all of those question marks will solve themselves in the few months after release. But if it does not sell well initially, support for this franchise could die out quickly.

Went through my download history (which took a while) and I still have the export packs for Lego Rock Band and Rock Band 1, so I'm not stressing about it now!

EB Canada has just updated that the Xbox one standalone game with the adapter is now delayed by 3 weeks. God damn.

LOL. Its always something with Rock Band in Canada. The Rock Band 1 bundle got pushed back for months in Canada back in 2007. I got gouged for an extra 80 bucks at the time by VGP since they managed to get a few in stock on American launch day.

Worth it.

I remember I got it off of Amazon, and just played the game with my GH guitars and used a crappy headset for vocals. Ended up getting a drumset in March 08 to complete my band setup.

Jesus, RB3 for PS3 is 90 bucks? WHAT THE FUCK?

People want them export codes.

I have RB1/RB2 but never had RB3 because my ex had it.

Don't go on amazon, ebay has plenty of copies within $30 range. Just make sure it has a manual.

Damn that sucks. I just tested my old 360 guitars today and there were fine (been wonky lately) so I'm going with the One copy with the adapter. Hope it doesn't get delayed over here.

The build quality of the instruments have been good since RB2. Only ever snapped the bass pedal of the RB1 drums.
I was scared because I've also seen my friend's GH bass pedals explode.
No I never buy warranties. If it fails, I blame myself.
Well sometimes things break... Design flaws and whatnot. I'm more worried because of previous hardware failures and standalone instruments likely not showing up for a while.

For those waiting on ION support (like me!) I started an Xbox user voice feature request to see if there's anything MS can do on their side.
