sorry to ask a question that has probably already been answered.

I know that I can use the gh:wt drum kit with rb2 and the rb/rb2 drumkit with gh:wt. I am also aware of the fact that when I use a rock band drum kit for gh:wt, the tracks also change to compensate for the missing drum. Basically what I want is a drum kit with as many pads on it as possible and I want that to be compatible with both games; I only want one drum kit lying around. So my question is: If i purchase the rock band 2 drum kit and the mad catz cymbals accessories, will I still be able to use that for gh:wt?

I'm assuming the answer is yes, and i apologize for asking what is probably a dumb question, but I just want to be sure. Also, do the drum tracks change for either rb2 or gh:wt when the cymbals are plugged into the rb2 drum kit?

CptUnderpants just replied to me over on SA.

Turns out all his shit about compatible instruments is once again speculation. Sony just crafted up a document for all peripheral makers to follow. They won't have access to the hardware at all. Granted, I know how detailed and boring this documents can get, but that's no substitute for hardware testing.

I'm guessing they'll work, but further patches will follow.

I know that GH:WT didn't 'see' the Rock Band cymbals about 6 weeks ago, but not sure what the date of the build was. It is possible that, if it doesn't at launch, it can be patched in.

However, I do know that a number of Rock Band songs just feel awkward on the GH:WT kit, mostly due to the yellow cymbal. This was most noticeable in stuff like the Boston tracks where there are a lot of tom fills.

I'm very curious about the recharting and the removal of the crash/ride track. As it is, GH:WT (and RB) is:
red=snare =snare (sometimes HH)
yellow=HH and crash =HH and high tom (sometimes snare)
blue=high tom and mid tom =ride and mid tom (sometimes open HH)
green=mid tom and floor tom =crash and floor tom
orange=ride and crash not present

Really, both games have the pads doubling up on roles, but I prefer the one tom and one cymbal to a pad technique in RB rather than GH's two cymbals or two pads. Just feels odd hitting the same cymbal for a ride and a crash.

Maybe you should test how responsive one of your pads is if you hook it into the cymbal port anyway.
Hmmm, I'll give it a shot. Although I really do like the set as it is now. If I could add another cymbal, I'd do an additional green to my right, so I could drop the green tom back down to where it should be. Suppose it'd be possible with a simple splitter...hmm, something else to try....

Nope, tried moving the crash (green cymbal) over and connecting it as a ride, but it didn't really work for two reasons. First, the cymbals aren't really designed in a way that you can hit their bell (the center bump) which is key to getting a proper bounce on a ride. Second, because the blue cymbal ended up sitting above the blue tom, it felt rather redundant. The tom gives a better bounce to the stick anyway, so it's easier to to those three-hit trills that come up.
They're going to sell every part separately. You could rig a regular pad up there, angled forward slightly. It's too bad they say the cymbal ports aren't meant to work with the regular pads. Maybe you should test how responsive one of your pads is if you hook it into the cymbal port anyway.

Whoa, brain fart on my part not mentioning that.
It's how I was planning on converting my RB1 brain into a brain for a custom set with three "cymbals". (actually just three more mesh heads placed high) Those plans are on hold for at least a few more weeks, though.
The other way could save you a trip to Radio Shack or Fry's, at least.

This was the image of my layout I put up before...for the most part, what I have now is the same...

The biggest difference I have is that the brain is now mounted to the same arm as the snare (red) and the high-hat (yellow cymbal). It sits above and to the left of the arm. I would strongly recommend this. Not only can you see the controls, and they're easily accesssible, but when using a headset, the cord no longer gets in the way.

I've angled the green tom a bit more since this shot, which allows it to feel more like a crash when I need it to.
So do you have the red pad sitting directly inbetween your legs when you play? and where would you recommend me putting the crash and ride cymbals?

Now to do it again with the proper OD path.
That song is only brutal on expert.

wait so i can use my rockband 1 original drums and they work in guitar hero world tour? sweet!

p.s. once you download the key in rockband 2 to transfer RB 1 songs over, you no longer need the disk for RB 1 correct?

I like Lazy Eye until the singer does the screamy shouty bit, then I feel slightly awkward. Rest of the song is OK though, even if it could be done in 2/3s the time.

The radio edit is much much shorter. I was all like "uh... it's still going?" when I first played it in the game. It's pretty dragged out.

Is the album version in the game? Because I thought it was quite well structured, at least as a "game level".

what the fuck. Damn you Sony! I'm so close to just getting a 360 and rebuying all the DLC.

just played Distrubed - down with the sickness for the first time......wished they went with the shortened version kinda, could have done without the crazy ramblings. Still pretty fun to play. Harmonix has done a great job mixing up some interesting note charts in when I thought all ideas were gone. Kudos.

It's interesting, as I meditate on the songs I played in RB2 instead of actually playing them, it seems like in terms of charts they've made songs I traditionally loathe (Come Out And Play) amazing things to play and the songs I was most excited for (Testify) kind of boring.

Although every song I've played, without exception, has had a really fantastic propelling groove to it that makes even slightly boring charts really fun to play.

For me at least.

I thought the singer of Lazy Eye was a girl until that screamy bit, and then I watched the music video and saw that it was a guy the whole time. That was a little disturbing.

edit: Testify sucks because half the song guitar-wise takes inspiration from Knights of Cydonia. No one really likes strumming their ass off. I wish they'd give us Bulls on Parade and Killing in the Name, even if the ending of the latter consists of "you, I won't do what you tell me" x20 with "MOTHERR" at the very end.

Yeah, I noticed that because I'd looked at the music video on Youtube (radio edit) just before I got the game.

Same. I was expecting a hot chick as well, which just makes it worse.

GreatDave and Amusix, thanks for the replies and input.

I'm definitely getting both games, but after reading your replies i'm starting to think that maybe it's a good idea to just suck it up and buy both drum kits...

I have some questions while waiting for RB2 PS3:

In 1p can I play a user-made setlist while having mic on no-fail 2p so I can get the lyrics to scroll by as I'm playing Guitar, Bass, or Drums? This is probably my biggest complaint with RB1 because I like having the words for songs I don't know while I'm playing other instruments, but I suck at doing both at the same time.

If I buy Guitar Hero World Tour for PS3, can I use both the drums & guitar on RB2 PS3?

1. Yes, you can.

2. You should be able to, yes.

Back from Gamestop. I now have $100 down on both RB2 and GHWT for PS3.

Are you getting the full sets for both?

I have preordered the full set for GHWT but I wonder if I should just change it to just the guitar+game bundle since maybe I will be able to use the drums from Rock Band in the game.

I'm thinking about doing just guitar+game for GHWT and splurging on the ION kit next year when I get my tax return back.

Hell yeah I'm getting both full sets. The games aren't $100 USD without instruments.

I can afford it if I budget right. Next up is spending the cash to get the guitar stands.

Surely you're just adding to your pile of instruments you don't use? I mean...so am I, but at least I'm only adding one set.

You'd be surprised what guitars people pick when they play the game. Like, my girlfriend wants the Nyko Frontman with the pink faceplate. (I got her a checkered pink guitar strap, too)
My brother likes the TAC Widow Maker.

OT, I played Drummania in the arcade today (haven't played in years). Weird, very weird (sorta in a bad way). I don't know how rock revolution is gonna pan out. IMO, RB and GH do it better.

Other people get what they're given.

This thread requires no OP really.
Besides, no one would read the OP and still ask questions like, "is x instrument compatible with y game??", and then there'd be some asshole who'd eventually go "read the op, 'tard!"

Besides, all the discussion doesn't have to exclusively be song requests.

Also, what's with Hello There by Cheap Trick? Is it a re-recording, or what?

heh, that's what I was going to say.

I have the GH:WT bundle paid off and I'm only getting the RB game. Like Dave said, they get what they're given.

I believe it is (would explain the album 'error') but that doesn't really explain why the year's missing. It'd have to be a case where they just plain didn't know, somehow.

$%^#. They still hadn't fixed the bugs where one person quitting/disconnecting in the middle of a song fails the entire band. After the failure you can retry but the missing persons track is not played and the fan meter is all screwed up for the rest of the songs. LAME.
