Rockband - New Information From Game Informer

Singers better bring some chops online, or there will be heckling the likes of which Xbox Live has never seen.

Well, I don't know if the world is ready for my amazing radness, but I guess we'll see.

They need to add some songs that are meant for an instrument + singing at the same time.

That would be incredible.

Imagine playing drums and singing "in the air tonight", etc.

Shits ... that would be sweet!

I have been holding off on the 360 for Halo and or a price drop. Mainly the price drop.

But sad as it sounds, this sounds like the killer app to make me drop however much money it takes to get a 360 and play this.

And the added 5 fret buttons sounds badass in my opinion. More authentic rockin out experience in the end.

Why not the PS3?

...he was waiting for halo and/or a price drop (from an already cheaper system). although i recommend a ps3 over 360 anyday, it doesn't sound liek that's what he's after.

I think the market is large enough for 2 of these games, so both Rock Band and Guitar Hero can do well.

With that said, though, I don't think Activision really understands entirely the formula for success, and thus will simply do the same thing, while Harmonix pushes things forward, so Rock Band will probably be superior (plus the MTV connections help too). Guitar Hero will probably copy advancements Rock Band makes, but won't be the innovator.

I'll probably not get this. I have no interest in playing this game with others and the fact that the GH2 Xplorer is gimped for this...I'm not buying a new guitar again. Just want good songs.

Hopefully we can filter out singers for online play. I REALLY don't want to here you guys sing in an online game.

This would make the game perfect, honestly.

Is this issue of GI in stores yet? I NEED to buy it.

Harmonix, the guys behing the first 2 Guitar Hero.

A Wii version is coming.

And the first 5 Karaoke Revolutions, and Amplitude and FreQuency, two ONLINE CUSTOMIZABLE music games with crazy custom avatar creation.

Harmonix has a lot of experience with everything, so this will be perfect. They just needed a big budget again. (Sony published Amplitude, and you saw the licensed music they got with that.)

I wouldn't be too sure about a Wii version. I heard Harmonix had a LOT of trouble making K-Rev Party for the Cube, about bundling the microphone or something and they didn't want to deal with them again.

I'm having a week-long marathon of American Idol Day 1 Auditions in preparation.

The buttons would have to be larger for us lefty-flippers, but yeah something like that would kick ass.

It says the GH guitar will work for the game, but will it work vice versa? Cause I was planning on getting the wireless GH3 guitar but not if the Rockband one works.

Quick few questions about Game Informer.

Is this issue out on news stand right now?
How much does it cost (in canadian if possible)?
Whats on the cover/what month?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess no for 2 reasons.

1. Harmonix probaby had to specially code their game to recognize that guitar. (Or leave in legacy code for it, but you know what I mean) So that means GH3 would need to be specifically coded to recognize it.
2. Red Octane seems to hate 3rd party anything. They have explicit warnings about not approving of other guitars and sued a company for making them. It's the sole reason I have yet to purchase Guitar Hero 2.

I was just hoping I wouldn't have to find a place for ~4 guitars and a drumset at my house :lol

It seems every year I have to redo how I store all of my accessories. Thankfully I now only have 1 other roommate, so I have a lot more room to hold things.
So many controllers, guns, dance pads, drums and keyboads.

At least this stuff is finally shifting toward wireless.

I can't wait. I really hope Harmonix will include a multitasking mode: guitar + voice and so on. That would really be awesome.

Sounds good. Hopefully we get to see it in action at E3.

I wonder if MS is going to embrace their MTV connections or their GHII connections when it comes to their keynote spotlight. If they can get their claws into RockBand mindspace, it could be monstruous, but if they stick with Guitar Hero III, they might be backing a one way trip to the Glue Factory.

Any word if the Wii version is coming out this year? My roomie has a 360 but no way i'll buy it for him so Wii is my only option :p

They are still "thinking" about doing a Wii version. It looks like it'll happen, but no way in hell it'll happen this year. I'll be picking up the 360 version.

DRUMS

The picture of the drum peripheral in the mag is not final.

It consists of four pads, a kick pedal and legs for the enire unit to stand on. Think of it as a TV dinner tray stand only cooler :)

Leftmost pad (red) is your snare drum, everything else doubles as toms and cymbals depending on the song.

A set of real wooden drum sticks will ship with the unit.

A piece of the stand can be taken off so that the unit can sit lower, or on a coffee table.

There is a kick pedal

If you play drums in this game on hard or expert, then you're really playing the drums. Apparently you could sit down at a real set and play the same songs.

[freakout]
As a drummer this is AWESOME!
I just got home and read this and shouted for joy. Took me by surprise.
Sounds like the main pad is akin to Quads (four pads). Haven't played drum set a few years, so bass drum will be trouble for me.
Though I was quad section leader in the marching band, so everything else (since playing the snare, cymbal, hi-hat(how is that going to work? Is the hi-hat even in the game? You can't have drums and no Hi-hat!), and toms on only four pads=quad like).

Also will it be possible to use 2 kicks to double bass? That would rock hard if possible.

[/freakout]

The other instruments sound snazy. 10 frets... I think I'll stick with drums.

Also, while this does not fully pertain to the Rockband, who is going to be doing the GAF band (cause I know it's going to happen... This is NeoGAF after all)?

I'll want a wireless guitar for GH3 to go with a copy of the game - at least $100 (wired guitar w/ GH2 was $90). But apparently GH guitars are now "gimped" for Rock Band because of the solo frets, but I can't just get the RB wireless guitar because Red Octane and Neversoft probably won't build in support for RB peripherals.

So if I want to play wireless with both games, I'll have to buy both guitar controllers. F***.

Or maybe I should just skip GH3...

I would imagine there will be dozens of GAF bands.

There better be.

There will be a lack of people who want to play something other than guitar. Which doesn't really bother me, because I'm one person who wont even be buying anything other than guitar. Aint got the drumming skill and no way i'm singing the crap songs they put in. Its a sacrilege to the days I used to have to sing maiden and symphony x covers.

I used to play the drums....... waaaay back when in middle school. I'm interested in drumming in Rock Band, but it sounds like it's going to be way complicated. I like playing on Hard difficulty.

I may end up going with guitar or bass. Good thing there is that one controller does both so you can switch if you want.

Singing... there is going to be a shortage of singers. There are a lot more people who are good at guitar hero than there are actual good singers... especially in the realm of gamers.

I will definitely NOT be going for lead in terms of multiplayer (but I'll keep cracking at it at home). Bass is well fine for me.

I'm sure it'll end up having to rotate between the players, but as long as they make the bass notes fun i don't see a problem. Maybe throw in a good song or two, one that has a bass solo. Don't think Nirvana does :lol

There will be a lack of drummers because unless you love to drum, that's probably the last of the instruments people will want. It'll probably be the most expensive and bulkiest, I can see that being a deterrent.

You don't think Nirvana has what?
