Rocket League on Xbox One does NOT feature cross-platform play

The Xbox version and Windows 10 version could be supported in parallel as well. That's what Gigantic, Fable Legends and Killer Instinct will do.

Releasing it for Windows 10 Store would just give them more exposure.

Having to make a separate PC version that can only play with Xbox One version and it's locked to the Windows Store?

I mean, it might as well not have cross-play with PC at all because if cross-play was locked to the Windows 10 store only there would be like 5 people playing that, and so kinda defeating the point.

Week that's going to hurt the game on the xbox in the long run. Not much mind you cause it's amazing but somewhat. Sometimes it hurts being a first class citizen.

I'm sure it will be fine. I don't see why people think it will die off in a few months without cross play. If ps4 didn't have cross play I'm sure plenty of people would still be playing. Doesn't seem like a big issue to me.

Finally. :) Will buy when it comes out.

Halo and Gears themed cars are nice and all, but I hope they can make room for Crackdown and RC Pro-Am cars later down the line.

Edit:
Posted in the wrong thread. Derp. No cross-play is a bummer. : /

Late port and it probably isn't going on GWG. I think the concerns regarding online population are legitimate, but I think the game is famous enough to end up fine regardless. Still a pretty big disadvantage from the other versions, imo.

Thats kind of lame. I suppose a Windows 10 version could still be in the cards, but I'm sure the playerbase will be fine.

-PC version has around 1.7 million players on it. Huge userbase.
-PS4 version was available for free when it launched, and is over one million as well. Thanks to the PS+ launch the game just kinda spiraled out into this huge hit.
-XB1 version not only will be starting from scratch with no userbase, but is launching late (always a hit to sales). The only players you'll find on Xbox are new ones who bought the game in Feb. 2016.

There's a reason that the devs are able to add so many playlists and hoppers (2v2, 3v3, a playlist where mutators exist, and much more). With XB1 that userbase will be fragmented more and more with each playlist, which again was never a problem for a 2 million userbase with PS4/PC, but it's gonna be a bit tricky with the walled-in garden of XB1.

110 million devices with Windows 10 as of October, and you believe that only 5 people would play it?

That version would have a lot less players because most gamers are on Steam. When Steam has over a million RL players, why would they make a separate version which will have a lot less?

Considering that:

Steam is available for Windows 10. So is Rocket League on Steam. The Steam version can play with more players by default, and the Windows 10 version wouldn't be able to play with Steam players(more than 1 million of them), only other W10 buyers and XboxOne.
Why would anyone willingly buy the W10 version? lol. Nevermind the stupidness that it would be to have the devs to have to support two different versions of the game with different multiplayer back-ends in the same damn platform lol

I think he means that if MS allowed cross-play, it would be only cross-play with PC players, not PS4 ones, so it would technically "take away" PC players that could be paired up with you if they didn't pair up with Xbox players in the match making.

Microsoft won't let Steam players play with Xbox One players. Their policies for cross platform multiplayer only extend to the Windows App Store, not for games sold through Steam, regardless of which version of Windows they are running.

so would Microsoft delegate PC players to be matched with xbone players or that would happen naturally?

What if it was full PC x xbone x Ps4? Then would it still happen?

weird that this restriction is still in place after they've made such a hullabaloo about cross-platform play recently

Assuming the version isnt Win 10 so the cross-play doesn't conform to their requirements.
Bet it's more of a policy of legal reasons than just saying Yes or No on a game to game basis. all stemmed from xbox live years ago i bet.

idk, that's just my guess and this is a bummer for those who want to cross-play with xbox one owners.

Within the Windows 10 platform.

They don't care about anything outside of that bubble. Unless it's a few token releases on Steam to appease the frothing masses and give them hope that they do still care about PC gaming...

With such a feature removed, shouldn't the price be reduced? Seems ridiculous to pay the same for less features.

MS isn't going to allow their players to play against PS4 gamers, so if they allowed this it would be between Xbox One gamers and Windows gamers, which would then mean the game would be taking players from the PC base to feed the PS4 and Xbox One games. MS' dumb decision means that on PS4, we continue to get all the PC gamers.

It would happen naturally, because that's just the nature of matchmaking. And vice-versa of course, Xbox One players would also be affected by the same thing.
Full PCx Xbone x PS4 wouldn't have issues because everyone would be paired up with everyone.

Microsoft will never ever change this...it is central to their ideology regarding xbox live. They can't control machines outside of xbox live and therefore they can not integrate into xbox live. The experience and any issues inherent are out of their control and therefore unacceptable. This is the right choice and i will continue to think that. There are large benefits to a walled garden and they come down to experience and consistency.

Now the win10/xbox games on pc will be able to crossplay, but that is because they are in every technical way xbox one games that just happen to be running on pc.

EDIT: also whatever keeps pc and the hacking and modding inherent out of my games on xbox one...i support

Modifications can be made on pc and cheating is easily accomplished...the whole point of xbox live, what you pay for is to keep it separated from that wild west...how is this a negative?

WOW! There are actually people who defend this? LMAO!

Yes? Windows store has yet to establish itself as good place to sell games. 110 million means nothing if these people aren't buying software.

Lol, how did I miss this post? How crazy of a corporate shill have you to be to genuinely believe this bullshit? LOL

I've played the game for more than 100 hours combined between PC and PS4 with cross-play enabled. I never found a single cheater.

Um all my friends on ps4 hate cross play
... that makes no sense whatsoever, but if it really bothers them that much there's, you know, a option to disable it?

Another factor, admittedly small, is that this probably cuts Xbox One players entirely out of the ESL/MLG/other competitive stuff for Rocket League.

Like many Xbox policies, I don't understand this at all.

Who exactly does this benefit? Seriously. There must be SOME reasoning behind these practices

wtf...that doesn't make any sense. First of all Neither mS nor sony have full control of what goes on on their gaming networks otherwise esp. With the latter it wouldn't be down so much.

Second of all, no. There's nothing to gain from keeping online players separated. All I can see is mS just wants xbl to be robust on its own, and feel for themselves or their player base that it is so robust and good that it's fine on its own.

I disagree. More crossplay means more gamers win. There's no negatives in having them all have the ability to play the game together. Not for the producer, not for the consumer.

Um all my friends on ps4 hate cross play

Well I don't know you, but I'm on Ps4 and I love the fact that there's crossplay. I wish more/ALL games that could, would do it.

How do they have control over Rocket Leagues servers?

Guys I think I know why they're doing this. See they dont want any terrorists using rocket league to communicate and since PS4 is a den of terrorist activity cross play obviously just wouldn't do. They can only monitor and control communications in Xbox live and they don't want to be associated with TerrorStation4. #FollowTheTerrorists

as tempting as it is not to I feel it is necessary to clarify that this is sarcasm. This is an indefensible decision

I guess MS is going to bump that Windows Store push in 2016. Games like Killer Instinct, Fable Legends and possibly Gigantic are probably the first steps. I can see Xbox originals with achievements getting ported over and some XB360 games to both consoles as well. I guess they are moving in for their attack on Steam. I do find one thing strange though, they have published 18 games on Steam and yet none of them have been released onto the Windows Store yet.

They're about 5 years too late for that.

Really wish Microsoft would change their tune. It'd be better for everyone.

To be honest, your spoiler sounds more like sarcasm than the actual bulk of your post.

This is an indefensible decision

Oh boy.
