Rocksmith 2014 is a fantastic. What other rockers are using this?

I don't see really any discussion at all on this game, and I somewhat understand why as it requires you to use an actual acquired skill to enjoy it and isn't something someone not interested in guitar would be using. But man its just a fantastic program.

I've been playing since I was 12 years old, and I'll be honest I consider myself a very accomplished guitar player. I went into this game somewhat hesitant as I wasn't sure if it was just some kind of generic cash grab, or if it would be gimmicky. To my surprise its an incredible tool for even a seasoned and accomplished guitar player. It also is a blast to play with headphones on and have that "jam with a band" feeling.

So does anyone else shred with Rocksmith 2014? If you are a guitar player I highly recommend it.
 
Bass player here. I have always been lazy to practice alone at home, but Rocksmith has totally changed that. A great tool / game!

Btw there is an OT at the community side.

And I'm about to get some damn hard heat but I think as of late I like BandFuse better even though it's dead and not getting new content.
I'm working on making custom content, it's going alright

Anyways, yeah, real guitar games rock.
 
I bought this for $22 on Steam during the Winter Sale!

How good would you say it is for people who've never touched a guitar before. Always wanted to learn and read that Rocksmith is a great tool alongside other sites like justinguitar.

Haven't bought the Real Tone Cable connector yet, but managed to convince my buddy to let me borrow his guitar and amp.

Plan to start learning mid-February.

You can, and will, learn how to play guitar. I guarantee it if you stick with it.
However, it will not teach you music theory, and it can't correct bad technique, which is why you want something like JG on the side.

Its incredible it truly is. It will walk you through slowly and can teach you basically everything you need to know to become a guitar player. You can go from total novice to highly skilled with this program. Obviously you'll get back what you put in, and learning guitar takes some work and commitment but Rocksmith makes it very accessible and a blast.

I seriously can't recommend it enough.

Just got the first game with the cable for $37 on Ebay.

I've been playing it a lot. I'm getting better so it's working.

Game got no promotion, two DLC packs (which are no longer on the XBL/PSN storefronts), and didn't come out for PC.

That being said, you can find it for $10 or less if you play on PS360, which is a steal. Hell, if your local GameStop has it, $3.
 
Amazing game. The DLC has been pretty shit, though. Some truly awful butt and scream rock stuff that seems like it would be extremely niche.

My only problem is I bought the first one on 360, and the second on PC. I really want to get the songs from the first one, and have been waiting for a pricedrop for the first on PC.

Does anyone know of a good digital deal on the first one for PC?
 
Got it for $15 on Steam a couple sales back. It has Steam Play so I move between playing on my Windows desktop and then on my MBP on the go, works out fantastically. Wish it had a bit more DLC but it's an awesome game.

This is interesting as I'm a huge Metal head and have been thinking, dear god I wish they would put some more Scream Metal on there. Give me some The Devil Wears Prada, Winds of Plague, Upon a Burning Body, For Today, Bring Me the Horizon, Memphis May Fire, August Burns Red etc.

But I can for sure understand not everyone is into that. I really wish we would see a lot more of it though.

I only like bandfuse because of a few songs that aren't on rocksmith like Dream Theater - Pull me Under. But reading the chart is more difficult, although possible. I am also new to guitar, got into it when Rocksmith 2014 launched.

The first one has been 10$ on steam sales. I think maybe even less than that.

As far as DLC there is a big selection. I have probably around 75 DLC songs.

This I can get behind. This got me thinking. Rocksmith only seems to support four string basses and a lot of modern metal bands use fivers or six string basses. That might shrink the list of possible songs.

I agree that keyboard version would be fun. I'd like to learn that.

Sure, but when you take into account that their CM has said that the number of people who actively play bass is tiny, you wouldn't want to take the even tinier (does it even exist?) subset of players with 5- or 6-string basses and give them content. It wouldn't make sense financially.
 
BTW do we know if this is a profitable franchise for Ubisoft? I really hope we get another one, and I'd like to think it is as they still release DLC for it regularly.

Yeah I agree. I was not asking for five string bass support actually. I prefer four strings. Was just thinking aloud.
 
I bought in steam when it had a discount, the problem is that i just could not find the real tone cable sold separately.
 
Bass player here. I don't like using it to learn songs (I recognize it's a valid method, but I don't feel like adhering to it), but it's a good way to keep the fingers running, and the huge custom tracks community always keeps things interesting.

To people learning to play with it - don't forget to take a break every now and then, and if something hurts you're probably doing it wrong/for too long. Don't fuck up your hands.

iirc I got the first one on Steam for $10~15 on a sale some time ago. Bought it just to be able to purchase the old DLCs.
 
That's it, I'm fucking buying this when it's next on sale.

Fed up of not being able to play any instruments, and I'll be able to jam with my brothers, both of whom play guitar very well.

I think the game hasn't sold as well as the first one, at least based on chartz, but the DLC is apparently doing well to justify everything we've been getting over the last year.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a new iteration later this year, even though they've said they aren't working on one.
 
Absolutely love it. I try to squeeze in at least an hour every day. It helps me feel better about all the guitars I have lying around.

I grabbed it on the cheap for PS4 around Christmas, but I still use my PS3 if I'm not playing Hendrix. For one, the delay on PS4 is horrifying without a headset and I like using my surround sound, but I buy one DLC pack a week (if I don't like what'd new I'll grab something I didn't pick up before-- tons of good song packs available) and its only cross-buy from PS3-PS4.

I've made a few bad purchases lately, as in songs that I love personally but are boring to play. Luckily, many of these songs have good bass tracks, so I get some use out of it. DLC goes a long way feature-wise, even if $3 seems like a lot for a song.

I've recently began trying to get my girlfriend to play bass. On the rare occasion when a musically-inclined friend comes over I've had a blast with split screen multiplayer, and she has shown interest in learning while watching me play Rocksmith over the past few years, but she still feels overwhelmed despite the game's ability to adjust for skill or lack thereof. I found some colored strings vs online that perfect rly match Rocksmith's colors, so I think I might buy some and see if it helps.

...kind of a random string of thoughts, but I don't get to discuss this game often.

One final note for Ubisoft: console players like DLC discounts too! Steam seems to get them often enough, but it's been ages since PSN has seen a markdown. I'd probably bite the bullet and buy any DLC I've been interested in if it dropped 50% (and still quite a few packs and singles if 30% were a possibility). I had high hopes for a sale ob DLC from the original game around the time the PS4/XBO versions launched, but no luck.
 
I got it recently out of a desire for more music games. Do enjoy it and it has made me play more than I was previously. I have been trying so hard to learn Mary Jane's Last Dance but it's tough. Also working on getting a 100% on something, I'm closest with Bat Country where I am 97.4% I think, also up there with Pour Some Sugar On Me and the White Zombie song. I dig it and wish there was something like it when I was first learning. Sure as hell beats flipping pages in a tab book and rewinding/restarting the song as you learn it.

I don't know much about these games but actually I remember seeing a case study a bit back highlighting the series as having incredibly high DLC attach rates, and classic rock and metal were by far the best performing songs actually

I believe it. Hell I've bought probably well over $100 in DLC for this game, and don't regret it at all. If you are an avid guitar player you will get tons of hours out of this. I play it every single day and I'll take all the DLC they can throw at me as they do a fantastic job of putting songs into the program.
 
I was not expecting to get bit as hard as I was by Rocksmith. I bought 2014 when it came out. Years and tons of DLC later, I find myself still playing every week, still buying content, and still enjoying the game.

I have played music for years, both for fun and professionally, but I found myself stagnating at home simply because I didn't want to set all my gear up just to play around i would only really practice before I had a gig or something.
Rocksmith ended up being the perfect tool to use to keep myself playing regularly, without too much hassle. Just boot the game, plug in, and play.

I can't speak to how good the game is at teaching you guitar from the ground up, but it's an incredible practice tool, one that I would say is near invaluable to me,
And after seeing that Rock Band survey go out, I realized I can't go back to the plastic guitar games ever again.
 
Day one fan, since the original Rocksmith. Own pretty much all the DLC, except for some of the japanese songs.


It's an awesome practice tool. It's just a lot more convenient for me to boot up the game on my Macbook Air and play a few songs instead of bothering to set up my amp.

Also, the Steam version is probably the way to go. Works on both Windows and Mac, and since the Realtone cable is the same for all platforms, you can probably still find a OG RS bundle for 360 or PS3 for dirt cheap.

FWIW, I'd say avoid the PS4/XONE versions. Even with optical, the audio latency makes the game nearly unplayable (At least that was my experience with the Xbox One version).

Depends on the type of guitar and what quality pickups you buy. They could be fine and its just some small internal problem-- taking it on for a setup should cover that.

Latest patch improved things a lot but I've never had latency issues with Rocksmith (I have a Sharp Aquos)
 
I'm a musician myself. I grabbed the PS3 version a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the latency was brutal, rendering it pretty unusable for me.
 
I bought the PS4 version a few months ago and it's a great complementary tool for a beginner like me. Just haven't really had time recently to get much out of it unfortunately.
 
Is this a good game to go into with zero guitar skills? Or should I have at least a basic understanding before I play the game?
 
I can definitely say this game improved my playing skills. It makes practice fun that's for damn sure. It also forces me to stop playing the same old favorites over and over and branch out into stuff I would never try to learn on my own.
