Rockstar rep says 'complete experience' only on 360

cicatriz said:
But when R* chose the 360 as the lead SKU, they not only optimized the game for the optical medium, but the platform as a whole, no? Not to mention, the optical medium directly affects more than just storage for content, but how that content is cached, streamed etc, no?

You're forgetting that the 360 isn't the only one with DVD medium. This game is coming out on 3 platforms. 2/3 use DVD drives, whether one has a guaranteed HD or not.

Would you give the disk space 'issue' a rest.

Unless you consider data compression a major alteration that will vastly effect gameplay in GTAIV you're really just clutching at straws here.

I don't see any of the PS3 exclusive games being any different in length than games on the 360, and games in the past. Blu-ray clearly hasn't changed much as far as game length goes.

It's true, they might do it like oblivion on the PS3 and make multiple copies of the game data to get it off the disc faster. Which is a pretty clever idea.

On the subject in general, didn't Rockstar say that there were challenges developing for both platforms? I'm sure there's stuff that they've had to tweak to get working on both the PS3 and 360. It's the very nature of cross platform development.

Wow thanks allot for reading my comment as a stealth troll ... I love my Xbox 360, i love the GTA franchise, but i dont like playing my GTA games with my Xbox 1/Xbox 360 controller, but id rather play it with a PS2/PS3 controllers, seriously **** off :/

Since i'll own both consoles anyway ..

If its any consolation I can't stand the amount of noise my 360's fan and drive and crap make when its running so I'll prolly get the PS3 version of GTA4....... except I don't have a PS3, so it'll have to wait till I do anyway. :lol

Unless you're suggesting disc space is the only facet recognized when developing for the lowest common denominator?

Ahh I see. you must have been referring to the PS3 with it's 64mb less ram as the lowest common denominator...gotcha ;)

Thats not the point, the point is that the game is non-linear meaning switching discs would be nuts. But I doubt it will be multiple discs.
The only thing that would see the game content balloon into multiple disks (IMO) would be uncompressed audio and HD FMVs...Compression takes care of most of your audio issues and all the cut scenes are being done in the game engine (right?)...In the end, I'd be very surprised if they had to make any sacrifices at all!

Cue the obligatory Oblivion and older GTA files sizes...

The PS3 version of the game was $20 off at Dell.ca

PS3 Version
$49.99 CDN

vs

360 Version
$69.99 CDN

Seeing as how I don't plan on getting the DLC, the choice was easy for me.

boy... sensitive much?

this is how i see it.

xbox 360 version will run better and look better than the ps3 version. i would shocked if this isn't true. HDD cache will used but a hdd will not be required to play.

Both will be on one disc but i could see the ps3 version having uncompressed audio/higher video quality/more random stuff. Chances that the ps3 version will have that extra stuff....less than 5%.

DLC will be VERY overpriced. if MS think they can make 50mil off it than you are looking at at least $30 for each pack.

Has anyone thought that if they developed more to fill up a BR disc it wouldn't be coming out this christmas? It sounds like they're having enough trouble just filling up a dvd9 in time. Think with your heads people.

I dont think they are having trouble with anything...they just demoed an unfinished game...like all developers do, and people are just running with it

Whether they're having trouble with it or not isn't really the point. The point is that it's not like they're sitting on their asses right now and have stopped development because of content restrictions. Its going to come down to the wire I'm sure, and if they had magically had more content the game would probably be delayed.

If the game was in trouble, imo, they wouldnt have committed to a date and the marketing campaign so early

I just got an e-mail for some dude that said his dog's groomer's great-aunt works at Rockstar and that the PS3 box will say 'Exclusive DLC content only on Xbox 360. This version is incomplete and not worth playing'.

Again, that's not the point. The Timedogger has spoken.

Nothing. As has been said before, they knew all along the game was going to need to fit on a DVD. They aren't pouring milk into a glass while looking the other way, only to be shocked when it overflows.

I know you guys don't like it, but DVD was the target format.
Actually in this case the "glass" is not even the size of DVD-9. it is the time and resources it takes to make a game you can sell for $60, ship it on time and have it good enough to expand your fan base (or at least keep it). I think most developers hit these limits a lot sooner than what they can put on a DVD-9.

Agreed completely.

And with HD assets.

So effing true, btw.

but what about uncompressed 7.1 audio

If the downloadable content is worth it, it'll end up in the PC version one way or the other, by Rockstar's hands or someone else's.

I don't really see what the big deal about this comment is.

You pay $60 plus tax for the same game on both consoles.

You pay extra down the line on another console for DLC.

Naturally, the DLC makes one version superior. However, it comes at a price.

In other words, you get what you pay for.

To me this is like making a big deal about a $6 Jack in the Box sirloin burger being better than a $1 McDonalds double cheeseburger. Of course it's better, that's why in the end you pay more. While it sucks for PS3 only owners that they might not get to play all the content the 360 owners will, it's not some megaton or anything, it's common sense. Both consoles get the main game and the 360 owners pay extra for their extras. Sounds like a lose lose to me really.

Can we please just close this thread now? The trolls have come out, posted what they needed to post, and no good can come from keeping it going.

I'll buy the version that allows me to wear Niko's tracksuit in a sterile 3D chat environment thankyouverymuch!

How is this bannable? We need another groupthink thread.

Hopefully GTA4 ships on one disc and the differences between the two games pre-DLC is negligible.

wow lukems posted after my first post. Sent in by the gods

edit: can anyone see my avitar lol?

If you've seen Wollan's other frequent troll posts, you would get it: it's because he never gets even a slap on the wrist while other people get banned for similar actions.

Considering the quality of Wollan's posts I don't think he has anything to worry about. As for you calling him a troll, well you sound very bitter. I wonder why? As for trolling, the only trolling I've seen is you trying to slam the PS3 version. But then what else is new.

So they knocked $20 off a PS3 game that isn't due out for another 2 months. :lol

This thread is still going?

Can we just go back to talking about how Rockstar needs to have a female protragonist? that was a pretty constructive conversation.

GTA 4 DLC needs to play as a lesbian Iraqi woman in a wheelchair.

I personally wish the thread title was changed to "Rockstar rep says episodic content only on 360", which is perfectly interchangeable with what he actually said. Then the thread would be greeted with a lot of "old" and "no shit" posts, and if we're lucky, cats.

This thread is like a car accident, I swear...I find myself rubber-necking back into it for the sheer shock/comic value.

Wouldn't make a difference. Every time this topic is brought up (exclusive DLC), the same shitfest emerges.

It's really rather awe-inspiring.

It's almost as if he found the one site where he could pull off his shenanigans. I mean why have a sense of skepticism when you can just laugh:

Picture1.jpg

Good thing none of those laughing happened to notice the xboxlc.com address. They might then have looked a little deeper and made sure they weren't, themselves, being "pwned."

Wow, scottlarock, you sure pulled a fast one on them! Besides the obvious, maybe-your-forum-name-isn't-your-XBL-tag line of reasoning...

But anyway, we now don't need to care what Raiden thinks now that the TXB sleuths are on the case. And Raiden, it won't matter what you type. But I'm sure Scott knew that.

dude, I got his XBL tag from his profile. My XBL tag 'Scottlarock904'

we've gone from car crash to geraldo's special tv episode of al capone's gamertag...

Dude, the point escapes you doesn't it. Showing a gamertag proves, uh, nothing.

Wait, it does show one thing: that you are so incensed by his opinion that rather than speak to his point, you'd rather try to pull the carpet out.

drohne might have a thing or two to add to this.
As in, you are one of the few that knows and understands what an ad hominem is. Still my favorite poster :-)

I'm not saying you don't own one, but don't get mad at people for identifying you by an incorrect gamertag.
