Romney in talks with Trump for Sec. of State

Trump was a trainwreck(who might destroy the party) that no one thought would win, but he did win, and that certainly changes things.

I will assume this is a leak from the Trump camp to give the illusion that they have their shit together until Mitt Romney joins the Trump administration.

"ROMNEY BENDS THE KNEE"

I keep thinking about that scary Omarosa quote:
“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump. It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”

Our brave new world

I'd be ... ok ... with this?

Is this Trump's plan? Say outlandish thing... backtrack to something reasonable. Suggest crazy people in roles ... backtrack to someone reasonable.

But then I remember oh shit Bannon.

I actually feel relief seeing Romney being considered in Trump's raw sewage swamp. He's basically the less evil of Trump's picks.

What a fucked up year this is.

It's a sad day when Romney is the most acceptable contender.

I don't understand this perspective unless the idea is "any non-Democrat is unfit for the job, gross it's a Republican." What precisely makes Mitt so bad?

It DOES suck when Mitt seems like the most normal human among a bunch of unqualified cartoonish freaks, but then again, I recall saying the same thing during the 2012 Republican primaries.

I'd love Romney in the Trump admin, if only because we need as many sane people as possible. He's in pretty high standing with me already, for going against Trump, I'd like to see him do some good in the Trump admin.

How does this news "distract" from the Bannon and Priebus hirings? The media have been talking about them since they were announced.
Bannon is so bad that no amount of "good" news should supersede it at any point. The longer Bannon is in the more normal it seems.

Romney seems like a normal human being, which is a huge step up for this new Trump administration, but does he have much foreign policy experience? I thought that was one of his weaker areas in 2012.

I don't see anything to be happy about regardless of whether Romney gets the position or not. Republicans have all the power, regardless of the puppet at the helm.

Using John Oliver's Trump analogy, Romney might take you for a wild ride in the airplane, but at least he is going to land the plane (with a bumpy landing).

We are not sure if Trump is not necessarily going to crash the plane killing everyone board. That is why you have many that are left or lean left praising the news. At least with Romney we will be able to get another plane flight.

Was never a fan of his proposed policies, or Romney himself when he originally ran in 2012, but as of now he's the most sane of the rumored picks. I'd take Romney as President than the parasite.

It's rather sad but I see that as a sane pick that I could reluctantly get behind.

And as for Romney, maybe he believes that he can best serve his country by trying to serve in a Trump administration. I don't blame him if he takes the job -- it's true. He could serve as a sanity check in a Trump administration in a way that no Democrat could.
