It's interesting how dominant judo is in the women's division. There have been better Judoka in male mma like Hidehiko Yoshida and Yoon Dong-sik, and those guys ended up with mediocre MMA careers. A lot of their moves were always nullified or their opponents just kept their distance. Not in female mma though. Get thrown, and then armbarred.

I believe women's judo is more popular than women's wrestling world wide, so you get a larger talent pool as well.

True. But Fedor utilized a lot of other techniques like ground and pound, excellent boxing, and wrestling. You never knew if his matches would end with a submission, tko or k.o. He was far from being a one dimensional Judo fighter.

But I do see your Aoki reference somewhat valid though. But he'd have a difficult time in the UFC LW division.
