What exactly are they traditionally used for, anyway?

It's a projective test meant to look for personality and or thought disorders, but you could use to just get a basic idea of how someone views themself and the world around them. Since I work with school age kids, I typically use the House, Tree, Person or the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) instead. I don't feel comfortable with the Rorschach since I was never implicitly trained to administer it, so I have it more for the novelty of having it on my shelf.

Rorschach ink blot tests are controversial anyway, because it's pseudo-science supported only by theory and not fact. Psychologists who use them will often have their own interpretation of what responses a patient gives.

Theres over 50 years of research and studies on rorschach tests....

Secondly this does kill some of the tests validity. However a smart pyschologist doesn't only use the rorschach test to evaluate patients. I know a psychologist who uses 6 tests including the rorschach to evaluate a patient.

I get the feeling that some of you just like to spout stuff off just to sound smart.

No they're not. Its not as simple as oh if your normal you're going to get trixied by some evil psychologist into giving answers that make you appear psychotic. If you're normal its going to be pretty easy to tell based off of a few tests.
These people go to just about as many years of school and training as medical doctors. They aren't out to get you and believe it or not most of them are good people that want to help.

Secondly how do you know? have you taken any of them? If not ok, then kindly be quiet and stop speaking out of ignorance.

Its bad enough that mental health disorders are not taken seriously by insurance companies, but that regular people mock the efforts of people who try to help others with these disorders.

I once accidentally walked into a psychologist's office when I was looking for my accountant and he raped me and forced me to take a bunch of medication. A trip to the psychologist is indeed bad for someone who is normal.
