Rory McIlroy PGA Tour up for download on EA Access

Single player mode, yup. Tgctours.com is all anyone needs though. So amazing.

This!

And it is more about gameplay. TGC's gameplay is fun, then layer in the competitiveness of TGCtours and that goes up exponentially. THEN add the infinite (and free) courses with the course designer.

Might not be a lot of meat on the bone, but the meat that is there is tasty!

Why was it dry and boring to you?

I feel it was really lacking in presentation with the drab commentary. More egregious is the lack of true online competitive play. I also miss having a real career mode. The course creator was fantastic though. It almost felt like some people on the leader boards were cheating with rounds of -25 and better. That is just not realistic to me.

Edit: A pet peeve of mine was hearing mmmmkay, here we go....at the beginning of virtually every hole lol.

I guess the prominent, capitalized text that practically screams "ALL PURCHASES ARE FINAL. NO REFUNDS EXCEPT WHERE REQUIRED BY LAW" on every single pre-order page on the PSN store (and XBL, I might add) isn't clear enough for some people-- not only as a signal that getting a refund is probably an arduous task, but that maybe digitally pre-ordering isn't a good idea no matter the game.

Getting burned once is usually enough to let that lesson stick, of course, but Sony's CS reps are actually occasionally kind enough to throw a refund your way (repeat: against their blatantly obvious policy). When this happens, it's logged and effectively leveraged against you so that future calls made in regards to your account in regards to refunds of similar circumstances are handled firmly. Basically, they're prompted to disregard their corporate politeness and tell the customer to fuck off.

If a game is utterly broken at launch or someone hacked your account or it's struck with some other misfortune beyond the consumer's control, you're still pretty likely to have some luck with a phone call, but I've only heard of a handful of people who have successfully received multiple refunds for pre-ordered games, and none of them really convinced me. I'm not saying it isn't possible-- just that they're being gracious the first time if you snag a wallet refund.

Edit: I've also heard, with good regularity, that Xbox Support seems to hand out refunds like candy at halloween. I've never had to request one, but it's good to know Sony sticks to their policies while driving customers to pre-order on their competitor's systems. I'll continue to wait it out until I've tried the game myself, of course, but digital pre-orders anecdotally seem safer some places than others.

Sweet, thanks OP. By the time I put 10 hours in it'll probably be in the Vault, ha.

It will be added to the Vault in Jan or Feb '16 going by past addiditions. My plan is to buy it on physical (after some consideration), keep it for a few months up to late Oct then sell it and get another 12 months of EA:A early next year (5 weeks of current sub left). Might re-sub a bit earlier to try SW:B.

The reason I had an issue is because of the number of Sony fans attempting to convince people that Sony doesn't deny refunds when in fact their policy clearly states they do.

Played the prologue and wasn't really feeling it, but I'd have to play a few 18 hole rounds to give a real opinion.

Finally finished downloading and playing my first round and... yikes this game looks ROUGH. I can't even describe how poor the game looks.

Just played it and the prologue was rough and holds your hand the entire way. I was very worried after it.

I then started a career and was even more worried since the player creation is the most barebones that I have ever seen.

I played my first web.com event and FedEx cup event and felt relieved since the golf is actually very solid and fun. The only negative I could find was that you only play 6 holes or so each round and the rest get simulated. I haven't played a Tiger Woods golf game in several years, so I am not sure if this is the norm.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the game and will keep my preorder.

Played on the Paracel Course and it was nothing special at all. I also played the Night Club Challenges and that was pretty fun. As for the gameplay it self felt really easy and had no real challenge at all.

I like the Tour control settings. Gonna have to play more a little later tonight. EA is still struggling at player likeness though.

Cant believe all the bail out posts after five minutes. I played for about two hours so far and its pretty damned cool so far. Graphics are beautiful (except no weather? Wtf). But the frostbite engine does this well and the tour mode makes it a nice challenge along with the backswing and swing speed impacting your shot..

Was pissed about the putting at first but now I get what they're doing. Plays quickly, fun and looks good

Just wish they would go back to the old Tiger Woods games like wear a watch and get more power and so on.

I completely agree, I like the game and feel there is a solid foundation. Player likeness my be a weak point, but the actual courses look great IMO.

The game seemed ok but what turned me off instantly was the horrible create a player. The facial options(or lack there of) are terrible. I have a kinect, why cant it take a picture of my face. Tiger woods golf had this type of tech years ago. You would upload a pic and create an in game face.

I love these games for career mode, not being able to make a dude look somewhat nice turned me off.....

Yea the create a player simple but an ok base effort. Next year I'm guessing full on face maker and weather next year

Is there a way to get rid of the "player shot" right after you hit the ball? I want to see the ball flight from the second I hit it.

Don't have Xbone but watched a stream of someone playing. Game looks mediocre at best. Courses look great but visuals overall are hit and miss. Gameplay is what I am most disappointed in. gameplay looks very easy and the ball doesn't look right in flight, when it bounces, and how it roll/reacts.

I will still be giving it a play since I am gameflying it but there is no way I would buy it after what I watched.

I will be sticking with The Golf Club which does so many things better than this game it is ridiculous.

GO BUY THE GOLF CLUB INSTEAD EVERYONE! :)
I agree. As nice as PGA looks at times, the gameplay thus far is no where near as good as TGC. Ball physics are typical PGA (not very accurate) and the putting is terrible; why do they still have power based only on where you place the aiming marker?

I figure I'll try it again until my trial is up and then wait until it hits the vault. I have too many great courses to play in TGC and the TGC Tours does an awesome job of highlighting new ones every week, even if I've been playing like crap lately.

Got a tweet from one of the devs who I asked about this and they confirmed that you can turn off quick rounds in career so you can play the full 18

The Golf club plays well but graphics and presentation are like a last gen game compared to this. The golf is pretty good here, but it's just a bit bare bones. Would have been great coming out last year and then amp it up with more features this year. This could use a patch or two and some added features but I have to say I can not stop playing it.

Commentary is pretty great as well

Edit.... By the way, was confirmed by Dev that this is No longer an annual title and will be supported with content updates

http://www.operationsports.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2047451358&postcount=14

Hopefully you can all be patient on this. More info will come out when it comes out. I wish I could say more. I will say 2 things...

This is not a yearly title and we are very excited about what we are going to be able to provide users of this title.

But yes, just like the twitter account said... "free content updates post-launch"

Great, downloaded.

I normally play golf games for around 10 hours so this should save me buying the game and wasting my money.

Played the prologue and wasn't really feeling it, but I'd have to play a few 18 hole rounds to give a real opinion.

Same, it seemed to jutter on key parts (like hitting the ball) and the Y to look where you aiming wasn't turned on in that part. It also looks really noisey/grainy in parts.

I'll play a full round after work and see how it goes.

Slightly disappointing impressions but will still be buying. Surprised they haven't absolutely nailed the graphics at least

Graphics are sweet imo... and I noticed some stuttering at first and then after a restart it was smoother

Play on morning or evening for a better opinion of graphics much more realistic than last gen. Frostbite engine is nice but cannot believe there is no weather

Excuse a potential stupid question, but this'll be the first time I've used a demo from EA-A.

There is no expiry on the demo?, you have 10 hours play time regardless?, so if I download it today, and play an hour, if I return to it in say a months time, I'll still have 9 hours of playtime left?

Don't like the lack of weather, the pathetic number of courses, or the horde of tiny bugs that fly around constantly making me think there's something on the monitor...

The golf is ok, still coming to grips with the putting reads and weight of putts but the swing style - on the advanced style - has been decent.

I've only played the career mode through a couple tournaments but the 'no loading time between holes' thing seems like bullshit. There's unskippable scenes showing the leaderboards and things like that...seems like that's just hiding the load time. I'll give regular play a shot tomorrow to see if there's really no loading during that.

At most its dropping character and crowd models in new locations, it's definitely not dropping out and rendering a singular hole like previous editions. The "load" time as you describe, at least on the XBone version I played, was barely noticeable.

Game as a whole was choppy as shit though, the main menu seemed to be loading whole courses and doing stupid fucking camera swoops around with shit popping in every where. Once you got into a game the frame rate stabilized a bit more but it still looked rough in spots, shadows seemed to pop in and out, the flag stick in particular.

The gameplay was fine. I'm not expecting some revolutionary experience, it's golf with a controller on a console. I appreciated the inclusion of the triple click, immediately turned it on and felt like I was playing a sweet version of MS Links.

As a whole, though, the game seems hard to recommend on the XBone right now. It runs okay in game, which is what really matters, but the lack of courses is a real killer for me. Hopefully they treat it right with some free packages, but as it stands it's a golf game on a new engine and it kinda shows.

Now it's been a few hours, anyone care to shed a bit more light? PS4 owner here so obviously can't play this Access release so would appreciate some comments after everyone worried me last night! Don't really want to drop £35 on this for it to be absolutely terrible, me and a lot of friends are looking forward to this!

Yea I want more impressions as well. I see a few people say it is choppy but then I watch the youtube videos and I just really don't see it. If it stutters for a second during non-playable parts that doesn't bug me.

Then someone said it looked crappy above and I just don't see it looking that crappy.

Needless to say I usually need to weed out the overcritical neogaf users because it rarely ever matches up with my experience. One recent example being people not playing the witcher 3 because the frame rate is unbearable (give me a fucking break).

I've played for around 5 hours now.

The laggy menus are awful - navigating around is painful sometimes. During gameplay there are lots of stutters and laggy moments - the most frustrating being when you press Y to zoom in and then back out again, there is a very notable lag.

Aside from the lag, the gameplay is pretty solid - not very different from TW13. But the input lag and general clunkiness of everything does not help with flow.

Very few licensed golfers.
Very few licensed courses.

Create a golfer is an absolute joke. Very limited and something that feels like it is out of the late 90's when "create-a" first became a thing in any game. Also, very limited range of clothing, etc. Nowhere near as much as in TW13.

Visually it's a big let down. The courses look decent but the character models look awful. Really, really bad. Some of the players in FIFA seem more detailed, which is inexcusable.

You're welcome to think I'm exaggerating or being overly negative because I don't intend to purchase the game, but as I said previously, I'm gutted I'd already pre-purchased as after a year off, I was really looking forward to getting another golf game.

Damnit I want this to be good...

TGC was fun, but there is ZERO progression element, and that makes it not as fun for me to play.

My favorite thing is how amped my created golfer gets when he hits a fairway shot while being +3 in a tournament. Dude acts like he won the super bowl or something.

You're not exaggerating. I'm also a huge fan of the series. This feels like a huge step backwards. How do you fuck up menus? How do you mess up the controls? Golf is all about the controls! How do you screw up character creation when the series has been known for a decade as having the best character creator in any game? Hot Shots Golf can't get here soon enough.

What do you find wrong with the controls? I don't really have any issue with them. I like using the Arcade controls, even though they are unrealistic. I feel like adding power to your shot and adding spin to improve your shot makes the game more fun.

I dunno, I guess I just want a fun golf game to play online with my friends with single player career progression. This seems to fit both of those voids for me, so I am still buying.
