When should we expect reviews? Any word on a day one patch? I'm really trying hard to rationalize this purchase
14th. 12:01AM (PT). That is the actual time the embargo lifts.

Yea. Weird.... I'm guessing the reason is, casuals?
Edit: But even so you're right, it needs to be more obvious. I had to read about it on Op Sports and started looking for it.
I'm hoping for some improvements like UFC got with dlc and updates over the next year to really build on this.

I have a feeling this reviews terribly at launch, but if their promised content updates happen, then some revising of reviews may be warranted down the line.
Not according to developer Justin Patel over on Operation Sports forums:
Golf Club is rough around the edges graphically but it plays a great game of golf and you pretty much have unlimited courses. Graphics look pretty good if you're playing a course that isn't filled with trees. I hope they improve the engine though as there is no excuse for it to not look much much better.
Yep, Golf Club is a no brainer over this...especially with the price. I may eventually pull the trigger on this game once they add more content...at this time I consider it an incomplete game and is totally inexcusable on the part of EA. Such a disappointment
TGC did add a single player Seasons mode to the game with their recent retail disc version, and subsequent DLC for the digital versions. I can't comment on it yet though as I've been too busy playing my weekly rounds for TGC Tour.Have they added single player or career mode to Golf Club yet? And is there a career mode in this game?
Graphics are good enough. There are literally thousands of courses. Official and non official, there is something for everyone and they are easy to find. The search filters are excellent.
Considering game sales are so notoriously front loaded (especially on consoles), publishers really shoot themselves in the foot by doing this.
There may be a bunch of "embarrassingly awful" courses, but there are still thousands of fantastic ones. Way more that PGA will ever have. This is also from a small indie studio on three platforms. There are literally thousands of embarrassingly awful courses for The Golf Club. The gameplay is is easy, until you get to the green, where ridiculous pin placement is used to prop scores up.
I get that people hate EA, but it boggles my mind that TGC is found acceptable at all. If EA had released it, it would have been trashed to holy hell.
Does this release at 12am EST or PST?
EST.
After spending more time with the EA Access version, I'm so torn on this. The courses are all beautifully rendered, and a baker's dozen (with Scottsdale) is a solid start.
It's honestly only the character creation and career content that are holding me back.
What's Pro career?
It just feels barren compared to recent Tiger editions. I don't need (nor really want) to play as Rory as a kid, but there's nothing really substantial there.
The player creation is the biggest joke of any creation tool I've ever seen.
I mean to even get facial hair you have to randomise all and hope that random person has facial hair then go from there, you can't manually change it. How the fuck did they fuck up that so badly?
I assume it's just play a tournament, gain xp and equipment to level and boost your player, and repeat?
It really is surprising considering they're doing that GameFace 2.0 for NBA this year.
And honestly, no beards (or at least word that they're on the way) = no sale for me.
Don't get me wrong, TGC sure has it's issues with performance (on consoles in particular) and won't win any visual awards. But, they are continuously updating the game and what is there plays better right now than any PGA game I've ever played.
I don't think that is even remotely true. If it were, no one would even care about the new EA game. But starting with TW 10, they put out a string of realm strong games. But if one of them had been TGC, golf fans would have had a meltdown over the downgrade I looks, performance, and balance. They would have called the devs lazy.
But TGC gets a pass because it I from a small dev that interacts with the community. But I don't care who makes a game or how much they kiss my butt. I want a good game, not one that promises to be good. And not one where I have to work to find good courses, deal with no one playing the same courses, and generic versions of Rea courses. And I really don't want one in which there I just one generic golfer in terms of skill.
When I play with Rory or Spieth, each attacks jokes differently based on their skill set. And each hole feels different because of that. And if I use my CAG its even more dramatic. The pro golfers range from 78-92 in ratings, and it affects play. Plus there are two 70 rated fake players.
And while the SIM heads scoff at the miniganes, there I hours of gameplay there, and they are realm well done. And playing them does help hone your skills.
Plus, you can play with three-click, and get that Links feel back. For many, three-click has brought them back.
TGC is a neat game, and I wont be surprised if it becomes a great game. But I'm gonna wait until it is. While RMPGAT is not great, it I better looking, more strategic, and has more ways to play.
I'm not disputing that EA has produced some very well made games that are/were popular and fun to play.I don't think that is even remotely true. Did they cut the replay for amazing shots?
I don't hate EA, I just like Golf Club and I love the game of golf it offers period. There are some awesome courses to be played on and awesome ghost to play against. There are literally thousands of embarrassingly awful courses for The Golf Club. Rich and I did a video review of the game, stretches on for about 35 minutes, where we discuss everything from gameplay, to Career Mode, online play, and even the Night Club Challenge - plus what we expect from post-release support.

it's worth the $54 for me to play it now and with add ons later. Great fill in game ro keep for lulls in releases.
How did you get permission to break the embargo time?
How did you get permission to break the embargo time?
I suppose that's one way to go about it.I'm guessing since they are reviewing it based on the EA Access version and not a pre-release code that would require them to adhere to such an embargo.
Haha. Yeah...If someone buys their own publicly available copy and doesn't give a damn about EA PR giving them freebies or access to things early in the future they can do whatever they want. An embargo isn't a legally enforceable thing unless you agree to something.
If I download this, can I leave it installed, and when the game is added to the vault in 6 months or whenever, will it just unlock without having to redownload as I have awful net here.
8 courses is pretty laughable for launch. Will wait to see what they do down the line before picking this up

Yes it worked that way for NHL 15 for me.
Allegedly
I have no idea what you're talking about. The game is hideous.
