Rose revealed for SF4 (roster complete?)

Spiderjericho said:
True, but the beautiful thing about new console releases is the patches. I hope Capcom makes use of it. And since you've been playing it, how do Seth and Gouken play out in the tier list?

And has anyone taken a look at the Master Guide? Is it worth buying? Wish Versus Books was still around, so we could get a kick-butt strategy guide along with the game.

Gouken and Seth aren't on the tier list because you can't select them.

The Master Guide owns (I have a copy).

Man, the amount of complaining always surprises me. If it wasnt for Ono we wouldnt have a new Street Fighter at all, the franchise would remain dead and dont tell me thats a good thing (specially from people who havent even played the game yet)

Hell you know what, if they had included every SF character ever people would still complain about the roster, either saying its too big or that there's not enough new characters. This is just like the Smash Bros thread where every new character reveal was met with complaining that someones favorite character wasnt put in.

I mean I'm not crazy about Dan. I barely ever use him unless I'm playing against somebody who has never played the game since hes that useless, but Id rather have a game with Dan that a game without, you know? More is better, just take it for what it is and be happy about it. If they add another row with SF III characters then thatll be awesome but if they dont, oh well theres plenty to like already.

Timeline wise, Makoto, Yun and Yang aren't even teenagers yet.

Again, this is CAPCOM. This is the same company that made the origin of tyrants an army of clones in equilibrium outfits, with dumbass shades. The same company that made Ada Wong fall/get impaled/whatever, and come back with zero explanation in RE4. They eat retcon flakes for breakfast while sipping fuck your canon coffee, as they destroy stories as they see fit. :/

Zero canonically died like 4 times about. Across 8 games.

Lulz that's just every fighting game.

The whole story cannon thing would be solvable if those characters were dlc. The main game could stick with the story, but if you want Makoto (who should be too young) then having her as an optional character makes more sense.

Ah, one of those "Just be glad they did it in the first place" posts. I always love those. It's like we're back at square one.

I play on Arcade and I dont think they are selectable in any form or fashion. One thing that comes to mind though, lets say Seth and Gouken are overpowered, are they going to be allowed for online play? I would hate to log on and every 2/3 fights be some Seth player. :lol

akuma001 and myself have been working on getting up some information up from the master guide, check it out.

Its pretty cool but takes some time to understand, so unless you're dedicated to the game, you're probably just going to end up looking at the pictures.

you may want to check this out as well:

True. But I don't really see how Rose adds anything to the game. Does she draw in more fans/did she have a fan-base? Is she a character in the new Chung Li movie, like Gen? I was never a big rose fan, so I don't really know her workings/fighting style, but she is unique so I guess that is a plus. But keeping with SF2's design style of having 'stereotypical looking' characters (for their respective nations/styles) I feel they could have added someone like Elena real easy. people who didn't play 3s wouldn't know she was old, and just assume she was an new addition to 4, and 3s fans would be happy. Out of all the 3 character designs I feel that she is the most in tune with sf2's character designs. And not to shit in somebody's bed, but this game is very much trying to get some riffs from sf2 due to obvious nostalgia reasons. And Elena just goes too well with all of this not to include :(

stop trying to legitimize the story in a fighting game.

My guess is that since they obviously had one more slot in the SF Alpha row, they went with somebody who was a female, had a different playing style, etc. If you notice theyve done things in groups of 4 characters per game series (more or less)

If they added a FS III row, Im confident Elena would make it, great character

well, it isn't really the best of arguments is it? doing something poorly or with focus on the wrong thing (in his opinion), can lead the any eventual sequels down a path pre-determined by a bad precedent. For instance if the inclusion of, what at this point is, movie tie-in's could potentially harm the IP and thus future installments, shouldn't he be allowed to voice his opinion?

What does the row system of theirs really win them, or anybody, though? It's neat that it lines up like that, but it doesn't amount to anything beside an humorous aside, and if that is their reasoning for leaving out fitting characters like elena then I am slightly ajar from the fact that they are letting something so trivial and superficial take precedence over actual character choices.

Ugh...They wasted development time and resources on joke character Dan, when they could have put some other "serious" character that we will actually use in the game.

It's out of love dude. :lol I don't care. I'm excited for the game, will buy it, but the character selection isn't one of the reasons why at this point (I will probably stick to Ken). I really hate when anything is reduced down to "Well, just be happy they did it in the first place" because it allows justification for poor decisions (in anything).

There's plenty of time for more characters to make it, so we'll see. It's no secret that I would like to see either some good SF3 characters make it in, or some more brand new ones jump into the fray.

Edit: I would play as Gouken, but he looks like he might be OP. But he has the Shin Shoryuken...my favorite Super. =(

Which is different to any other game including Dan how? He's someone fans want and he doesn't take much balancing, he was always going to appear.

Maybe they balanced him out into a real character?

It would be the biggest joke of all.

He wasnt totally useless on C vs SNK 2 though

Redrawn sprite and everything! (these are from part one, but you get my point)

Clearly they are trying to distance themselves from everything about 3S that they possibly can. Can you blame them for not wanting to include characters which many disliked do to unfamiliarity or unorthodox design?

Its obvious they made a firm design choice to create a true sequel to SFII rather than a brand new game in the way that 3S was.

That's why your precious characters aren't in it. Get the fuck over it.

Dan also isn't the worst character in MSHvSF!
He also had the most powerful move in MvC2! Too bad the rest of him isn't that proficient. :lol

I do miss Premium Sign in the more traditional games though. :(

All you guys hoping for DLC, Ono said in an interview that there would be no character DLC because he didnt want an uneven playing field. So whoever is announced for the console versions is it. There will probably be gameplay patches, balancing etc, new backgrounds and such but thats it.

Rose is a very odd choice, but depending on her moveset she could be a GREAT addition to mix up the game. I really want Yun/Yang and Dudley (i know dudley aint gonna happen since boxer is in). I still think Ono will give us at least one 3s character for console release, since the demand for them is getting pretty ridiculous.

given the fucked up design on some of the new characters though, I'd say they aren't really doing that. Or at least not on a practical level, because dudes like Rufus and C.Viper aren't really any better than Necro and Remy. If they are trying to go for the sf2 design philosophy, they shouldn't have ignored Elena. She fits much better with the sf2 crowd than any sfa or newly added character they've thrown in.

Sorry all of you folks asking for Karin, but I hope she doesn't make it in... I'm having enough trouble with the game having one post-high school character wearing a schoolgirl uniform. Having TWO would just make things way too ridiculous.

How exactly is Rose "plumbing the depths"?

She's a good solid all-round character with multiple options, good anti-air, the ability to reflect/absorb fireballs, and a great set of normals.

Obviously the solution then is to ditch Sakura.

Yeah, I don't have any of those concerns as I've never had issues with 3D fighting games. Where SF is full of fail is in the visual department and character selection.

They could put a wang on Crimson Viper and I still wouldn't want to play it. :|

C.Viper is not a great design.
One himself told in an interview ,that they tough that it was a 'innovative' design until someone pointed out Vanessa from Kof 99/00 :D
Also Vanessa es totally awesome.

Because Seth is totally better than that.

Why? Rose is a being created by energy who has her body taken over and disposed of. How is that any more ridiculous than another school girl? Or...you know, a green skinned mutant man? Or Stretch Armstrong? Or...the metal dude with a spinning ying/yang orb in his stomach.

Eh. :lol

Rose? WTF.

Plumbing the depths there Capcom. Can't wait for downloadable Skullomania.

There will never be ANY Street Fighter EX characters in SF4, because Capcom does not own those designs.

I love Sakura, and want her in the game. I just want her to look like the 22 year old that she is. If Karin came in without her school uniform, I'd welcome her with open arms.

Oh, and it's pointless mentioning Blanka and Dhalsim to me, because I think they're shit characters and utterly ridiculous designs and should have been thrown away and forgotten the moment the original SF2 series ended.

I like you. Lets be friends.

Sakura in an Asuka Kazama type outfit would kick ass. :D

*loads up some KoF*

Here's the thing: I think they COULD keep Sakura in her school uniform, but only if Capcom had the guts to give the poor girl some character development.

Like, make it so that she thinks she hasn't fulfilled whatever it is she's chasing, and because of that, she hasn't allowed herself to move on in her life. Her hair is kind of the same, but a mess, and her school uniform shows signs of wear and tear, is a bit torn and dirty, but she still wears it. Obviously that might be a bit heavy for a series like Street Fighter, but in that regard, I'll be perfectly fine with her keeping the same outfit.

Otherwise, seriously Capcom, let Sakura be something more than just fanservice at this point.

Brobzoid said:
Why is this a viable argument? Do you seriously believe that if they included those characters people would find the experience so jarring that they wouldn't enjoy the game as much? Who cares about stories in fighting games?

I see we're back at this argument.

Let the record show that a lot of SF fans do care about the story.

Shidoshi, hopefully, they'll put an alternative outfit for her. I think Capcom has a problem in changing iconic characters like these. Probably why they hardly ever get a redesign. That's the one thing I like about SNK. Kyo in KOF has had about three redesigns (KOF 94, KOF 99 and KOF 2003).

But who cares...it's new Street Fighter...let's stop being cynical, over analytical and be more celebratory (sp)

Speaking of which...in the recent Play, Ono said he hadn't quite figured out how players were going to acquire alternative outfits. I smell DLC...

Satoshi Kon's Street Fighter 4. I love it. :lol

Edit: To kind of add on to your point, I have to question why there isn't any kind of good character customization in SF4? Everything is polys/3D now. There's really no excuse not to open it up and have a ton of costumes, items and more that people can unlock and customize their characters with like VF5 and T6. Make a "Capcom Card" or whatever and try to capture some of the success the other companies had with the same feature. This would add a lot to the game and really personalize it. Especially online.

I had a big fit about this in a previous thread, but I'd be perfectly fine with the idea of relying on alternate outfits if they were anything but joke / fanservice stuff (which, so far, is all I've seen them be). I have this terrible feeling that Sakura's alternate outfit will be more ridiculous than her still wearing her uniform.

My previous idea was this: give all the characters updates looks wise, then have their classic outfits be their alternate costumes. That way, Capcom is supporting the idea of pushing the characters forward, but also is giving fans their classic looks as the fanservice.

And yes, seriously... the complete lack of character customization is ridiculous.

Then again we'd all fight either A) Ryu with a hawaiian shirt and clogs or B) Ryu all in black with black hair and scars and stuff. I'd prefer just to have one outfit each (with colors)... but make it a cool outfit that doesn't have to necessarily be the original one.

Fighting loads of custom Ryus >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> non-custom Ryus.

I was a fan of the Color Edit mode in CVS2...I am happy that there will be alt outfits, and i hope there are more then 1...I also hope that each alt has multiple colors...

Full on customization would be cool, but nothing necessary.

Mmm, yes, the people that disliked those will obviously LOVE characters like Seth, El Fuerte, and Rufus.
