Rotten Watch: Hot Fuzz

Domestic = US + Canada. Doesnt really matter though, since we in Canada usually account for like 2-4% of the revenue.

You guys were not kidding about the last 30 minutes, such an awesome movie. I had a smile on my face for quite some time after it had finished. Something tells me I'll enjoy it even more when I watch it on DVD.

Edit: Anyone seen the soundtrack anywhere? I tried a Circuit City, Target, and Best Buy.

Eh, I guess I was expecting more of a comedy but colour me disapppointed.

Same. I didn't find much of it that funny. I thought the best parts were in the trailer already and the rest just felt like boring filler material and Nick Frost's character was just so... I don't know, seemingly bored the entire time. This one just didn't click with me unlike Shaun of the Dead, but it was far from a bad movie. I don't regret seeing it.

I kind of felt the same way about the film.

I don't know, I found it (especially the last 30 minutes) much funnier than Shaun of the Dead. I love Shaun of the Dead, but this one was more :lol :lol :lol especially if you've ever seen Bad Boys II or Point Break. In fact, I'd say those two are required viewing to get the most out of the jokes in Hot Fuzz.

Exactly how I feel. Still always love Shaun but Hot Fuzz just killed.

I liked Shaun of the Dead but Hot Fuzz just blew me away with it's awesomeness.

I mean, I went in feeling I'm enjoy the flick, but it just straight up kicked my ass when it was all said and done, the build up towards that balls-to-the-walls action packed final 30 minutes just had me with a huge smile all the way through, fantastic. The way some jokes are set-up like an hour a head for a nice pay off latter....bloody awesome!

Narrp? :lol :lol :lol

SWAN! :lol :lol :lol :lol

And I was dying when the last big Point Break reference popped up. I mean the Bad Boys II stuff was great (This shit just got real :lol :lol :lol ) and then they went all out even directly reproducing not one but two Michael Bay trademark shots from Bad Boys II. Simply BRILLIANT.

And Timothy Dalton ruled.

The damn whole theater crowd I was with exploded at that part. :lol

Yea it was a one-two punch of that and the last SWAN! I think people were falling out of their seats in laughing pain by then.

That's the true test. The theaters are going apeshit. That doesn't happen much.

Narrp.

Danny Butterman: Where's the trolley boy?
Nicholas Angel: In the freezer.
Danny Butterman: Did you say anything like 'cool it'.
Nicholas Angel: Umm no, not really.
Danny Butterman: Awww shame.
Nicholas Angel: Well you would have been proud of me before, when he attacked me in the hotel and I distracted him with the cuddly toy and I said, "Playtime's over." and hit him over the head with the plant pot.
Danny Butterman: Man, you're off the ****in' chain!

That part is :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Yeah Roooooooy!

Just saw it tonight. Theatre was pretty full for a Sunday. Tons of fun - I'm sure there's alot I missed the first time around, so I'll check it out again sooner or later...

Butterman: Did you cook any fools?
Angel: Excuse me?
Butterman: Did you ever shoot anybody?

:lol

That script was sharp as a nail.

Yea really. I hadn't laughed that hard at a movie in a while. I was still laughing at it as I walked out of the theater.

Well thanks to a matinee yesterday I've seen it four times.

I *think* I've just about gotten all the references there were to get but I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up seeing something else I missed at a later viewing.

It's awesome the first time you watch it but it really takes multiple viewings to appreciate it on just a creative level. There's tons of little quips and phrases in the dialog that are a lot funnier if you know what's going to happen later

No one's going to stab you here... not a member of the public anyway.

It'll be cool to see the numbers next week when they go for a wider release. I think the current approach might actually be a good one, letting word of mouth build a bit then opening in more theaters.

Don't forget when he's looking through the DVDs and just before he throws it back into the metal basket you see the Shaun of the Dead DVD lying on top for a fraction of a second.

Theres a good 1 hour podcast interview with Hot fuzz's director Edgar Wright and co-writer/star Simon Pegg here:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CreativeScreenwritingMagazine/~5/111168676/HotFuzzQandA.mp3

The interview does contain spoilers for the film Hot fuzz so dont download it if you have not seen it. They talk about how they got started in the business, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Spaced and Edgar's trailer for Grindhouse.

Right click and save as to download.

On one viewing alone, I can safely say that it's my favorite comedy of all time.

What's the situation?
Two Blokes and ****load of cutlery!

Are there many Shaun of the Dead injokes? In the previews I've seen the fence-jumping gag, but did you guys notice any others?

Yes. Apart from the obvious one in the trailer, there are a few others but they're small / subtle.

As someone else here said - <The thing that's so great about Shaun and Spaced is that the more you watch them, the more little touches you notice. > - and that goes for Hot Fuzz too.

Drive safe.

Honestly thought the first half was garbage. Was actually going to walk out. But second have pulled me over and showed me the awesome.

its not all that to be honest.
RAPIST

Saw it tonight and it was F*CK AWESOME. Best action-comedy ever made. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when Danny actually got to
shoot into the air while yelling "ahhhh!"
. It's such an awesome movie that hits all the right spots. I actually want to see it again in the theaters, which is something I practically never do.

Looks like I need to see Point Break and Bad Boys II while I wait for the slightly bigger release. I liked Shaun of the Dead well enough, and I don't like zombie movies normally. Action movies, however, is right up my alley.

Everyone saying that the first half was not so hot or whatever should watch it a second time - this film is a grower - I was rolling around the second viewing.

I really need to see the movie again, I have a feeling I'll enjoy the first half a lot more with a second viewing.
