I named my cat Bubastis. Vet visits are awkward.
My older ferret was named biscuit, I always got looks in the vet : )
BTW, I just re-read the announcement from a few months ago that the director;s blu ray would have both halves of the PSN watchmen game on it, but I can't find any mention of it since then and I don't see it listed in the specs of the release. Can anyone confirm it's in there? I really want this, but if they left it out, I'll just wait for the final cut I suppose

It's not unknown, Snyder said there were too many names already running around and he didn't want to confuse people, hence just calling the team "the Watchmen."
Wait, what? I thought it was specific reference to the speech JFK never gave that had the line "we are the watchmen at the walls of world peace" or something like that. The line was referenced in the comic so I'm pretty sure that's where it's from.

search in the games section of Amazon. it's $50.

Why frame Dr. Manhattan? Doesn't this make United States the root of all evil since they were the ones who gave birth to "Dr. Manhattan"?

I presume that because America itself gets royally screwed enemy states aren't going to believe that they would put this on themselves, and wouldn't think that they are the perpetrators.

oh, maybe I should have pre-ordered it. I didn't think it would be listed as a game. That's sucks though because it mean Best Buy won't have it right away and it's too late for GS. Oh, well, at least it's all there. I'll probably snag that. I was kind of hoping the games were a free add-on in the bluray package. The games are not great and overpriced from what I hear.

framing Dr Manhattan works because the Russian already knew he left us for screwed, that's why they started invading Afghanistan the second he left

The actual team isn't called the Watchmen in the comic, though. They're called the Crimebusters.

For the movie, Snyder just calls them the Watchmen because he didn't want to confuse people.

Oh ok I see now. Yeah I knew they weren't called that in the comic and I think I miss understood what you meant. I see why they would call them that in the movie.

So the DC bluray is $23 at BestBuy and the game add-in is 50. That's 27 bux for the games. That's slightly less then to download but not great IMO. Ah well, I suppose I'll grab it anyways.

Anyone sign up for the BD-Live thing with Zach Snyder? It's on Saturday July 25. Similar to the Chris Nolan thing. Probably sucks that it's just a bunch of text Q&A while watching the movie.

Wow, it starts at 9:30 PDT :lol :lol

Not sure if I'm willing to stay up that late.

A note to anyone considering the Game/Movie bundle: The 2nd disc in the normal Blu-ray version is absent from this, which means you'll miss out on a shitload of special features if you go with the game version.

Why did they have to mess up the European edition? Now I won't get that Play.com booklet or Swedish subtitles. 24 minutes of additional footage and this Maximum Movie Mode thing which is apparently missing from the EU release seems more important to prioritize.

Maybe there will be an eventual upgraded European edition? Hear there's gonna be an Ultimate Cut or something with Black Freighter edited into the whole thing released in December. I don't know if that'll be a good or bad thing. And it'll probably be rather expensive and apparently it's only announced for the US as well.

The movie+game bundle won't be available here. But it sounds like they messed up that edition too anyway.

Blargh...

Yup Europe is getting screwed again, official release (theatrical version) is due for release in september here..
Thank god it's region free.

Im on a business trip right now. Luckily my Vaio plays BLLLLUUUUUUUURRRRAAAAAYYYY

I think I am going to buy this tomorrow and watch it in my hotel... such a dork.

So the US Director's Cut is confirmed to be working on PAL PS3's/Blu Ray players?
Because if so, I'm going to purchase the shit out of that. would be very shitty if it didn't work.

Well i googled it, and every site i come acros confirmes it's region free. So it should work on PAL systems.

So there was a article in the newspaper talking about the blu ray release of Watchmen. They ended up saying the Director's cut has 23 extra minutes and then the ultra edition would only have the black freighter added in. I thought the ultra edition would have even more deleted footage from the actual movie + the black freighter.

Can you give me a link? I've been reading the amazon description and it says it's a two disc set but it also mentions that the games and movie are on one disc. It also mentions a few of the extras that should be there so I want to confirm.

^^^ the final cut is supposed to be the director's cut plus the black freighter, I don't think there is any footage being held back from the director's cut for the final cut.

I only heard Black Freighter added... I would be very mad if it had even more footage...

Anyhow, my copy has shipped from amazon. Maybe I will have it tomorrow. :D

Seriously, I need to know about the DC vs the PS3 version. What I've read lead me to believe all the same extra's are there, but I want to see everything they have for this movie. I don't want the extra's to be left out so if anyone knows a link to the info, I love you. Tomorrow is my day off so I'm planning to to go to Best Buy at opening.

Just saw the back of the DVD case today at my store. Very liberal use of the phrase "super heroes" on the description.

"In a world of super heroes a super hero is killed and the super heroes band together to find who killed the super hero and they find a plot to destroy the world and end all super heroes super heroes super heroes!"

Exaggerating, but they say "Super hero" at least once every sentence :lol

Anyone order their copy from WB Shop? If so, is it shipped yet? I ordered it from there to get the cheap Tales of the Black Freighter. If I have to wait a week to get my Watchmen I'm going to be pissed. I've waited for this day for weeks :(

I just watched it for the first time (director's cut). I must say I was surprised. I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. The ending was sweeter than bitter to me.

ARRRR!
I just got the link I wanted and it's true, there is no complete experience. You lose over an hour of documentary stuff I actually want, which makes the pricing even worse. I was willing to burn some cash for the the over priced PSN games because it's just Watchmen porn and it was slightly cheaper. Without the extras, it's and even worse deal : ( The two PSN games cost a total of 35 bux together to download and screw that.

Warner hardly ever sends shipping confirmations. With the orders I've placed in the past, I've never had anything arrive later than the day of its retail release (i.e. Tuesday).

I answered your PM about this, but here's the info from Blu-ray.com about this PS3 game and movie bundle for everyone else who's curious:
blu-ray.com said:
As for this specific edition, gamers who are willing to sacrifice the second and third discs of the regular Director's Cut release (which include three additional HD documentaries, a music video, and a digital copy of the theatrical cut), will score two overpriced PS3 arcade games. Personally, I would pick up the 3-disc Blu-ray release and purchase the two games separately (via PC, the Playstation Network, or Xbox Live Arcade), but I'm not everyone.
Damn GAFers not trusting me unless they get links, GOSH.

The Watchmen games are fucking horrible, and this is coming from someone who really wanted them to be good. They're uninspired tripe that is only somewhat redeemable by the fact you can play as Rorschach and beat the shit out of things.

yeah I know, and I was going to buy them just for that fact, and because they were a bit cheaper. I was willing to put up with crap just for some lame voiced-over fan service, but I think I'll save my money now.

Watched the movie. One thing I'm curious about that they didn't mention in the movie (or the book if I recall) is about Dr. Manhattan's logo on his head. He says the logo has to be one he respects, but what is it? Looks like a solar system? A power button? An atom or something?

Hydrogen Atom

I saw it about a week ago. I didn't know where the hell the story was going until the end. Then everything made sense. Guess I'll have to watch it again. I enjoyed it though.

First I've heard of the Ultra Edition. So now I'll have to hold off on the director's cut if I want the full extended version (extra footage + Black Freighter)...but the Ultra Edition may not even combine all the added material into one package?

Fuck that. Unless the UE does turn out to be a true be-all end-all cut of the movie, I'll be renting. I was excited to buy this, but I can't stand missing content, and I'm sure as hell not double-dipping.

What? It's not like it didn't have a million story lines. And that seemed to be the main problem with the critics: how overly complex the movie seemed to be, especially to people unfamiliar with the comic book (or whatever). I was one of those people.

Long as it made sense by the end. I'd never read the book either, but I loved every minute of the film.

Yeah, it all was a big "OHHHHHHHHH" for me by the end. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And is that man who played the guy in the mask the same dude who was the pedo in "Little Children"? I'm too lazy to look myself

Rorschach? Yes :P

Oh and this is one of those Movies/Graphic-Novel that you have see/read twice or more to truly enjoy the easter eggs and the story and the awesomeness. It's really hard to stay in touch with all the characters and their real names and whatnot but once you see it again, it's so much more satisfying. I'll start with the basic easter egg: In case you didn't notice:
Rorschach is the guy carrying the "The End is Nigh!" sign

Who is that villain with the crystal ball around his head an the villain with the swastika?

They didn't appear in the comic.

As mentioned, they are the axis of evil, from Minutemen Era. They are not shown in Watchmen comic but they are mentioned by Hollis Mason as being villians of their time.

Nazi man is called Captain Axis.

Not sure who spaceman is, but he's in one of the frames where Hollis Mason gets pwned.

amazon told me I could watch Watchmen right now on its site for free and I go to the site and it say I have nothing in my on demand library. dammit amazon

add me to the amazon fail group. i've been checking every couple minutes but still nothing. not a big deal to me but they should probably save the email for when it works.

those gif's are awesome. i'm ready for some deleted scenes.

Okay. The Director's Cut will be 3 hours 10 minutes.

The Ultimate Edition will be 3 hours 25 minutes.

Source

I've read that the Black Freighter stuff runs to ~20 minutes, but that might be the version released as a standalone feature. I think it's safe to assume that re-cut into the movie - so without the titles and credits - it's more like 15 minutes; and therefore the Ultimate Edition will include all the extra Director's Cut footage alongside the animation.

That's a relief.

Edit:

Confirmed.

The Ultimate Edition will be a 5 disc BR set released in December, containing the Director's Cut of the film with the Black Freighter scenes mixed in:

High-Def Digest said:
The ultimate gift for 'Watchmen' fans is coming for the holidays.

A flyer included with the 'Watchmen: Director's Cut' Blu-ray (available in stores July 21) reveals that a 5-disc 'Watchmen: Ultimate Collector's Edition' will head to Blu-ray this December.

This monolithic edition will present Zack Snyder's Director's Cut with the "Tales of the Black Freighter" comic-within-a-comic actually woven into the film for a complete 'Watchmen' experience.

While it's worth noting this release will be missing most of the supplements (like the awesome maximum movie mode) found on the version due to hit stores in a couple of weeks, it will contain a new commentary by Dave Gibbons and Zack Snyder and two hours of bonus material, including the "Under the Hood" mockumentary. It appears the 'Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic' will be included as well.

There's no word on a specific release date or suggested list price yet for 'Watchmen: Ultimate Collector's Edition' but we expect that info to come trickling in within the coming weeks.

Just to be clear, who got all of the humor in this film? I think a lot of it went above peoples heads, not because the movie was bad, or people are stupid, but because they weren't looking for it.

The obvious cheese and camp of some of the characters (the interviewer who talks to Veidt, Nixon) as well as the nice nod to 80's cinema with the ludicrous music placement, the mocking of modern superhero films (Ozymandias costume) and Laurie's line that comes right after Rorchach drops of his journal at the New Frontiersman ('Can't you just tell me how this ends so we can go home?'). That last part was pretty funny, and a lot of people at my theater definitely got that joke. Nice little self-referential humor.

Any of the usual stores have good deals on the Blu-Ray? Best Buy? Fry's? Target? I'm going to pick this up today or tomorrow, but didn't know if there were any specials going on.

So annoying that the Ultimate Edition is coming out in December.

Fucked themselves over cause I'm not double dipping. Director's Cut for me today.
