RPG-Age, enlighten me!

As you no doubt know already, I beat FFIV Advance last week, and I loved it.

It was really the first true RPG that I ever sat down and finished. I played FFVII when it first came out, but I never beat it; it's still one of my favorite games though.

So, what are some other good RPGs I can get on the DS/GBA or PC?

And also, has Nintendo announced any American dates for FFV and VI Advance?

Fire Emblem. They're close enough to RPG's.

Skip Golden Sun, though. That game was mediocre, but I hear the second is much better, and basically brings you up to speed in the beginning.

If you don't mind a challenge I highly recommend the Phantasy Star Collection... they're remakes of games from the SMS/Genesis era, and may seem primitive compared to what they have today (but they are amazing), but they were so far ahead of their time back in release, and PS1 and 2 are both extremely challenging. Plus you get 3 games for $20.

No dates for FFV/VI yet to my knowledge.

(It's really complex if you are wary of that)

I found Golden Sun to be quite fun. Eh.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is great and the first thing that comes to mind.

I'd forgotten about Phantasy Star Collection, but the PS games are classics and I'd definitely recommend that as well.

I love Fire Emblem, but if you're just looking for stuff at least somewhat similar to FF IV, FE isn't really -- it's mostly a strategy game, really.

Do you not have a ps2 Phoenix?

For GBA I'd suggest Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

Still don't have a PS2. I'm starting to want one though, with SOTC/KHII/Okami/etc...*sigh*

FFTA and Fire Emblem are similar games right (SRPG)? Which one do you guys prefer?

I love Baldur's Gate 2; it's a perfect game imo.

Right now I'm leaning towards:

-Fire Emblem/Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (they're both pretty cheap)
-FFI&II

My brother has Golden Sun; it's alright, but I could never fully get into it.

Tracking down FFVIII for the PC would be highly recommended. I've always felt the GBA line up was a little weak as far as J-RPGs go. Me thinks a PSOne + a handful of classics would be a nice pick up.

I don't think there's any dates for FF5 and 6 Advance yet; they just had a picture in the JP FF4 Advance manual, but it did have 2006 for FF3 on the DS.

Fire Emblem isn't even an RPG. Good game, but can't you guys find some RPGs to recommend? :P

Yeah the GBA hasn't really had any stellar original RPGs. Their best RPGs are remakes of SNES games...

There's always the latest Pokemon I suppose.

As far as PC goes, PC RPGs are a completely different beast than console RPGs. You might want to check out some abandonware PC RPGs, or the ones you can find for $10 in bargain bins before checking out any newer titles.

if you are going to get a fire emblem get the one for the GC, much better than the ones on GBA. don't get me wrong the ones on GBA rock but Fire Emblem GC is definitely better than both.

Another vote for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It's not just the best RPG on the GBA, but one of the most charming games on the system.

I've heard good things about Tales of Phantasia, which comes out next month, but I haven't had any play time with the game to comment on it.

There are no real quality RPGs on the DS yet, though Battles of PoP is supposed to be a good strat RPG.

Strategy RPGs are still RPGs. The only thing differentiating a SRPG like Fire Emblem from a standard RPG like Final Fantasy is the fact that there's an additional element, movement, to the battles.

Anyway, the GBA has had some great RPGs. Fire Emblem and The Sacred Stones, both. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Riviera (though definitely not for someone who isn't a fan of RPGs in general), all are pretty great. And Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis may be far weaker than the SNES/PSX game, but it's still very good.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is a very high quality RPG. Lost in Blue is quite good, too, and very innovative as well.

And I won't even bring up Dawn of Sorrow, since people like to think that games with leveling up from experience points from killing enemies to increase HP, MP, and stats like strength and intelligence, plus the ability to use magic spells and equip different weapons, armor, and accessories (further altering the player stats) aren't action RPGs... :)
