RTTP: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Not open for further replies.
I can't really remember either of them in full, i need to rewatch them.
All i remember is they were badass, and the confusion at how Keanu turned into whatever the hell he is now.

I'm still holding out hope that they'll reprise their roles in a Bill & Ted 3 where we get to see Wyld Stallyns bring peace to the universe.

1989 was an awesome year for feel good movies. Just from Box Office Mojo's list of top 50 grossing films, pure feel good entertainment:

Batman
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Lethal Weapon 2
Look Who's Talking
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
Back to the Future Part II
Ghostbusters II
Parenthood
When Harry Met Sally...
The Little Mermaid
Christmas Vacation
Turner & Hooch
Uncle Buck
Field of Dreams
Tango & Cash
Major League
Black Rain
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
The 'Burbs
Weekend at Bernie's
Road House
The Dream Team
Dad

On top of that, these films also came out the same year:

The Bear
Glory
The Abyss
All Dogs Go to Heaven
Dead Poets Society
Sex, Lies and Videotape
Always
Lean on Me
Do the Right Thing

Was watching this on HBO Family, forgot how much I fucking love this film. I was born in 1988 so I didn't exactly grow up within that era, but I love it anyways.

Bogus Journey comes on right after, not as good Excellent Adventure but it's still entertaining.

And how in the fuck did Keanu Reeves go from this to one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood?!

What?

It's way better!

Bill&Ted vs. Death

EDIT: Damn, late again..

EDIT²: Police Station

Bodacious movie. Bogus Journey was most excellent though.

Btw, you guys should check out Freaked if you haven't already. it's directed by Alex Winter (Bill) and has Keanu Reeves as a werewolf.

I have to second this post. Freaked is a great comedy that had the bad luck to slip through the cracks when there was a change of management at Fox. It should be so much better known.

Also, put me in the Bogus > Excellent camp. Reaper and robots rule!

I was Nine that year and think I saw 90% of those movies. They shaped me into who I am now.

Best decade ever!

Everyone I know says I am crazy for thinking it, but the Bill and Ted movies are a million times better than the Wayne's Worlds. But I have never been a big SNL fan or a fan of their personalities or 'stars.'

The Bill and Ted movies had something great going for them, that set them above WW for me and that was the soundtracks. Mainly the Bogus Journey. Faith No More's 'The Perfect Crime?''God Gave Rock and Roll to You?' Megadeth's B-Side 'Go to Hell?' 'Play with Me?' Primus? Steve Vai? That all adds up to equal 'amazing.'

I love both B&T movies. Fuck Wayne and Garth.

All we are is dust in the wind dude.

Dust. Wind. Dude.

Aaaahhhh

Haha, I love it when they do stuff like that.

"What is the meaning of life?"

"Every rose has it's thorn, just like every night has it's dawn, just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song"

Both were awesome movies, but the greatest scene out of them was in Bogus Journey where they kept beating Death at every game they tried:

"Best two out of three?"
"DAMN RIGHT!"

I forget all the games they tried, but I can remember checkers, clue, mousetrap, battleship, and twister.

I grew up loving the first movie as well, but had heard questionable things about the second, so I never sat down and watched it.

BIG mistake. A few years back I was working at Pizza Hut when they were running a free dvd promotion, Bogus Journey was one of the ones (and the only one I had a modicum of interest in seeing.) Let me tell you, I was in awe while watching it. Yeah, it's not as good a movie as the first one, but some of the parts are just epic. It's a must see if you like the first movie at all.

"I approve of this thread," stated Josh while coincidentally wearing his totally non-heinous Excellent Adventure t-shirt.''

My favorite bit from the original has to be the absolutely lame pseudonyms they come up with for the historical personages when arriving at Bill's house. Dennis Frood, Dave Beeth-oven, Maxine of Arc, Herman the Kid, So-crates Johnson, Bob Genghis Khan, and... Abraham Lincoln.

According to Wiki, a Bill and Ted 3 was in production and had a readied script, but it was canned and the script was used to make Bio-Dome.
Huh. Hadn't heard that one before. Bio-Dome doesn't look to have come from either of the major writers behind Bill & Ted anyway, though.

Never seen this list before but wow, 1989 was a good year for movies!

Most people here prefer Bogus Journey, but the first one will always be the most classic memorable to me, I watched the first one probably more times than I can recall.

Definitely prefer the first too. "Remember when I asked your mom to the prom?" "Let's take that gnarly old goat dude." "Ted, you've gotta have a poker face like me. Whoa, three aces!"

You sir get +1 billion just for that last line. The Eighties Rocked!
Started great, ended great.

I just love the movies and the music but especially rollerblading beverly hills blondes with big titaes in crop tops that seemed to be in every movie!

I just watched bio-dome. Goddam it's awful thanks to its two leads. The most uncharismatic unlikeable leads in any movie ever. Lets face it, Reeves and Winters made bill and ted awesome!

Excellent movies.

Any word on a bluray release?

STATION!

Whatever happen to the actor that played Bill? His resume at IMDB is very thin.

Yea he hasn't done much but he was on an episode of Bones not too long ago. As soon as he showed up I was like hey that's Bill S. Preston Esquire!

Everything is different, but the same...

things are more... moderner than before...

bigger, and yet smaller...

it's computers...

I love this movie !

Bogus Journey wasn't that bad, although the Grim Reaper steals pretty much every scene he's in.

Ted quoting Poison's "Every Rose has it's Thorn" to get into heaven had me in tears :lol

These movies are totally non-non-non-non-NON heinous.

(Greatest movies ever. Seriously. I stayed up until 3 in the morning waiting to record them onto VHS back in 1995 when I was 6. So. Worth. It. Still have those VHS tapes too. :D)

My favorite part is at the beginning when they go in the Old West saloon and get served beer.

Ted: "He didn't even card us!"

Bill (looking around): "Yeah, we'll have to remember this place."

I just turned this on on HBO. Such an awesome movie.

'Dude you totally hit him in the head!'

'Yeah... Hes a total bone head!'

"Put them in the iron maiden."

"Iron Maiden?! Excellent!"

That's one of my favorite lines from the movie.

and maybe "How's it going royal ugly dudes?"

and of course "69 dudes!"

and probably everything else too.

I remeber when the first movie came out and I was only 8 not knowing what they meant by "69". Aah to be young :lol
Hah my dad pointed out that his license plate had 69 on it to my mom and I kind of figured it out then. :s I was 7ish.

Was about to make a new thread and then I searched so I figured I'd just mention it in the appreciation thread.

KEANU TALKS ABOUT A POSSIBLE BILL & TED 3 AND DOES A FUNNY WERNER HERZOG IMPRESSION

ahh..all those caps.

And I never chimed in, but as my avatar implies, I have a full on robot chubby for these movies. :D <-Ted smile

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about this. They have an opportunity to take a fresh and new approach with the characters now that they're adults.

"adults"

I don't see them changing too much, but I do hope that the movie isn't Brady Bunch where they stay exactly the same but live in a culture where they are out of their element. The other movies say that their childish nature becomes the way of the land and I'd like to see a movie more about their impact on a B&T version of 2010.

And it's a fucking shame Carlin is gone, a third movie would be so much better with his presence.

If I was going to get someone to replace Carlin I'd get Dennis Leary. I wouldn't recast the same character though. Just a new guy to take his palce.

It would be interesting to actually approach it from the perspective that "adult life" has gotten in the way of what they were meant to be doing so someone has to come back to set them on the right track again.

Not gonna lie to you guys--it was a good year to be 12 years old.

Never have I been so sad that someone stole (or "borrowed") my DVD copies of both of these movies.

Yeah, anyone have any news?

The instant both these and Pee Wee's Big Adventure get released on Blu-Ray I can relive my childhood.
