Returned last week as well and just somehow beat qeelag on my first try. Rocking a holy halberd since forever together with my awesome spider shield. Thx again Durante for this awesome looking game.
Kind inhabitants of a peaceful land.
You can buy an unlimited quantity of the small titanite shards from the blacksmith in Undead Parish, so don't worry about wasting those.
I only found him last night because someone pointed that area out. Before I took the gargoyles down I started going that way and then saw a note on the floor stating it was probably a higher level area. Upgraded my armor and took out the demon right next to him on the first try.
Now to ring the next bell.

Looks like I'm at the Bed of Chaos.
Hmm.
edit: WTF lol
edit2: I suck at jumping D:
edit3: I still suck at jumping
edit4: Dodge roll + sweeping attack + nearby bottomless pit = lololol
edit5: Aiming for the platform would be a good idea next time
edit6: Wait, does the boss actually attack while I slide down the ramp?![]()
You know when people gripe about Souls fans? This is why.
No jumping is necessary for Bed Of Chaos, you can just drop down on to the branch in the middle and walk up. Just time it after the double sweep so the hands don't knock you out of the air as you drop down.Looks like I'm at the Bed of Chaos.

edit7: I guess that wasn't how the game wants me to time it...
edit8: Or that...
edit9: Alright I think I'm going to pour a glass of scotch now.
edit10: Wat
I was jumping the pits on the second phase. No jumping is necessary for Bed Of Chaos, you can just drop down on to the branch in the middle and walk up. Just time it after the double sweep so the hands don't knock you out of the air as you drop down.
No need for that either unless you choose to go on the very outside of the arena.I was jumping the pits on the second phase.
I felt completely empty inside after finishing Dark Souls, just because I knew I wouldn't get an experience like that again.
.
I was jumping the pits on the second phase.
And this is why there shouldn't be an easy mode. Moments like these would be missed.
Well.
That's done.
I actually really like what From was going for with Izalith, but it could certainly have used some polish.
This is on sale as well as the second one on Xbox this week so I finally took the plunge on the first one. Quite cheap too if anyone is looking to grab a digital copy.
I'll see if I enjoy the first one but is the second one worth playing too?
I hear you OP, I just beat DS1 for the first time a few weeks ago, and O&S were the biggest challenge by far for me that whole game. My first few go-rounds the farthest I had gotten was just after Bell Gargoyles, but this last time I was determined...and even my determination was almost not enough to get past O&S. I dread doing a NG+ run because of them, actually. I started playing BB but I stopped really early in, where some jerk up in a tower keeps shooting at me with a gatling gun. I got around to him while dodging all his nonsense, and he straight up gutted me immediately. too infuriating to work with right now. I think this is one series, for me, that I need a solid break from before I can go back to a new entry. Between BB and SOTFS, I'm pretty sure I'll get around to DS3 sometime in 2018.![]()
And this is the moment where you realize that the Souls series can grant you experiences unlike any other game.
Reaching the top of Sen's Fortress for the first time was the most intense gaming experience I've ever had. So much panic when I got invaded during the run when I was finally able to make it to the rooftop bonfire. For when giants are hurling massive bombs at you.

You can also run straight ahead when you come in through door to that area and jump down skipping enemies and him shooting at you. Makes it much faster going back for attempts after being killed by him.I hear you OP, I just beat DS1 for the first time a few weeks ago, and O&S were the biggest challenge by far for me that whole game. Just started DS for the first time myself and I felt like a fraud for a while because I accidentally cheesed almost every boss and sub-boss at the beginning:
Once I rang the first bell I spent quite a while making my way down into the Darkroot Basin and decided it's probably not where I'm supposed to be going yet, then I did the same thing with the graveyard near Firelink. The upside was that I blitzed through the Lower Undead Burg, and it felt good to defeat the Capra Demon by normal means.
- I completely missed the drop attack on the Asylum Demon and only beat it with a sliver of health (not really cheesing, just playing terribly)
- I somehow got the armoured bore to walk into the fire and kill itself
- I somehow made the Taurus Demon fall off the wall and plunge to its death
- I summoned a knight before the Bell Gargoyles fight and he pretty much slaughtered them without much help from me
The Depths were a cakewalk, too...until I got cursed :-/ Man that was a pain in the ass. Kind of made me hate the game for a bit. I feel like I'm coming up to a boss in The Depths because I've just reached a giant cavern.
I also made the mistake of upgrading my Long Sword to +5, before I found the Drake Sword. I still prefer the Long Sword's thrust to be honest but the Drake does more damage.
All in all I'm loving the game, especially the level design. Sure, making your way from a bonfire to a boss only to be killed in 3 seconds flat is definitely frustrating, and getting cursed is even worse. They're the only parts of the game I've found to be frustrating. The rest is great.
I'm putting all my points into VIT/END/STR because I started as a Warrior (I think) -- is it worth putting some points into ATT just so I can throw some fire? I don't think I can even equip magic at the moment.

the front entrance is guarded by 3 knights. 2 you can see but one is hiding to the left. i can't beat him because he keeps 1 hit killing me. i could spam him with firebombs but i feel like that's cheating.
... Don't upgrade the drake sword. It starts strong but it has no scaling. The longsword scales with strength and dexterity with a C rank I believe so it will quickly over power the Drakesword with some upgrades and levels in strength and dexterity. This is why on the stats page the longsword has something like 80 +50. The +dmg is bonus from your stats scaling. The Drake Sword has high base damage but doesn't scale at all.
Stats wise you get diminishing returns from 40. For damage it might be worth while looking at dexterity, check your weapon's scaling. Attunement for pyromancy is a pretty good option for some variety. Wouldn't go too over board with it. It is generally not worth trying int and faith spells as they will be quite weak and requires much more investment to get you going.
lol
Are you Patrick Klepek?
I went with default Warrior and picked the keys as my special. I kinda hate customising like this, feel like I'm screwing myself by choosing the wrong thing. Should I stick with that or start over?
Cool, thanks for the tips. When should I start worrying about weapon durability? Am I losing damage if my sword's 150/250 or whatever? Some weapons like the crystal-based swords have really low durability so I'm not sure if they're worth it or not.

Damn looks legit.
