RTTP - Resident Evil 2

A major example of why I like fixed cameras.

Can I just say that the first Licker cut scene ranks amongst the most iconic cutscenes in video games?

Now imagine it with modern graphics and the zombie casting a shadow over Leon, it's back painted orange from the wreckage fire lighting.

Oh mah gaaaaaaaaaaahhhh

Oh boy! I'd say the 1st zombie scene in RE1 a little more, but yeah it's up there. Stupid bad CG still scarred me. They even kept all the sounds in the REmake version cuz they know how iconic it was!

Shame we'll get a behind the shoulder at all times perspective and have to like it.

I wanna say they're going to be true to the original, but fingers crossed.

I want nothing more for Capcom to do new ports of the classic RE games that consolidate all the content of previous releases.

The N64 randomiser is my current favourite way to play RE2, but the lack of skippable cutscenes is horrible. Being able to choose difficuly with randomiser would be great. Nightmare mode with randomiser active would be something I'd love to try.

I've been meaning to replay the game sometime soon. By far my favorite Resident Evil game, next to REmake and RE4. I remember going back to it after 5 years since I last played it and I screamed like a little girl when I got here:

Best game.

One of my favorite games of all time. A few years ago I was still able to memorize Leon's A game and completed it around th 3 hour mark in 2 playthroughs.

I really feel RE3 perfected all the systems of the classic RE. 2 is good and longer, but 3 left the greater impact on me. Nothing can beat the clock tower cutscene, amazing stuff.

My favorite Resident Evil and the first one I beat. Didn't the expansion pack for the N64 come with this game?

You mean the other way around? And also, no it did not. Only DK64 came bundled with it because it wouldn't run otherwise (due to some weird RAM bug they couldn't figure out, despite the game not actually needing the extra memory itself).

It's a bummer that the GCN port was based on the PSX version and not the N64 version. That way they could've thrown that version onto a slightly more future proof format at least :(

Probably the best sequel ever made. Can't wait for the Remaster. Hope that Capcom doesn't fuck it up.

Remake. Not remaster.

Remaster = throwing leftovers into the microwave
Remake = cooking the same dish again from scratch
:)

Oddly enough, RE2 is the first mainline RE game I played but the only one I've never beat.

How is the game without a guide? Annoying missables?

The first RE I ever played. I think I was in third grade when I completed Leon A the first time. One of the greatest gaming moments in my life. And the best part was there were three more scenarios to go. I had so many nightmares for playing this a bit too young but it was all worth it :) My favorite in the series and its getting remade finally!

This game was amazing. First played in 2k9, or '10.

Claire A > Leon B had to be the most hype experience I've had on the PSone. I loved
Leon and Ada confronting Mr X in front of the exploding generator, and Mozart intro to the final boss
.

They can really go all out on character models, the lighting, maybe even some more elaborate gore and gibbing if they used pre rendered backgrounds in the Remake. I'm hoping they go all out but keep things like inventory tetris.

You shouldn't be able to miss anything if you check every room. The only worthy missable thing (if you don't count ammo packs or herbs hidden in various lockers or secret places that you will find only by checking every inch of each room) is the key to a locker in the lab; in Leon's scenario it grands you an upgrade for his magnum.

IIRC after you use a train to move from sewers to platform that will lead you to the lab, in the room you get off the train is a flare launcher (or something like that - dunno what's the proper name). If you use a lighter on it it will launch a flare and you will see an item glimpsing on the floor near the device (you can also ignore launching the flare and simply move around the launcher pressing the action button - you will eventually find it). It's the key to the locker on floor B5 (near Birkin's main lab).

And the game is pretty easy. Unlike RE1, once you check each door your map will update and will indicate which key is required to open said door. Puzzles are rather easy and you should be able to breeze through them if you read files and item descriptions.

Also, if you want to avoid annoying backtracking, when you're in the sewers and switch again to Leon or Claire (once you get there, you will know it) pick up a valve handle from the item box. Once you cross a rotating bridge, use the valve handle to rise it.

I've posted them in another BIO2 topic but there were two drama albums for Ada and Sherry released in 1999. They are "alternative universe" stories where events occurred differently in BIO2 than what subsequent games went with, due to the multiple choice nature of the story.

The Little Runaway Sherry
The Female Spy Ada Lives

You'll recognize that certain story elements in these albums, such as Stone Ville and Christine Henry, were integrated into the canon by the EX Files in the Nintendo 64 version.

And here's an interview with Kamiya that isn't very popular.

Fun fact: the N64 version actually has the same analog controls as REmake HD and RE0 HD have :)

PS: Itchy, tasty.
Wrong game, I know. Still true.

The N64 cart was the only version of the game that I owned of RE2, that was the first RE game that I completed from start to finish and going through all the second survivor mode stuff. The N64 version was pretty respectable of a port all things considering. But I never used the analogue thumb stick, I always used the N64 d-pad, which worked surprisingly well. Probably one of the two N64 carts that I ever used the d-pad for.

Not that I am aware of. The game did use the N64 expansion pack though.

Terrible cutscene audio aside, the N64 version is incredible, considering the format. The entire 2 disc affair, with better game graphics, extras, etc crammed into one cartridge.

I have the game buried somewhere at my parents house, wonder if the battery still works.

Sorry for the necro bump.

Just beat Claire B, for a while I was convinced I had created an unwinnable when
I couldn't activate the lab elevator because I kept trying to use the panel for the train platform which needs the master key, after getting frustrated I had a d'on moment as I noticed the other control panel which is the one you need to use to access the lab).

Still holds up very in my opinion as is second only to REmake for the fixed camera classic Resident Evil games.

End stats

Claire B
Rank D
4 hours 43 minutes and 55 seconds
5 saves

I replayed it a couple of weeks ago, Claire A and Leon B. I ended up with around 6 hours for both but I'm always slow in games

My only fault with the game is the difficulty, by far the easiest RE imo, I think i had something like 50 magnum rounds left over and item box full of healing items

It absolutely is a cakewalk. I wish more versions came with that Nightmare difficulty.

IMO the only hard thing in the game are the HUNK/Tofu scenarios...which I was never able to legitemately beat
