RTTP: Super Meat Boy. Greatest 2D platformer of all time.

Really? Goddamnit why didn't the 360 version have achievements like that?

I got all the achievements in the 360 version. Doesn't really require you to do much other than 100% the game.

Xbox & Sony limit the amount of achievements/gamer points you can earn for retail/indie titles. There's no such limit on Steam (games can have 300+ achieves).

I loved Super Meat Boy. It was fun and challenging in all the right ways. The controls were perfect.

The game's aesthetics and music were great, too. I loved the 8-bit and Gameboy-inspired stages especially.

I mean, by the end of Cotton Alley's dark world, I was about to go literally insane, but that was the price of striving for full completion. I DID end up beating 100% of the game with all the achievements. Only did it on XBOX 360 though.

(I do have an untouched copy in my Steam library from Humble Bundle as well)

I also beat most or all of the X360 version's DLC. It's been a while so I don't know if they added any more.

Honestly, I'd call Super Meat Boy a perfect game. It hits all the marks and has tons of content for the asking price.

I love it deeply. 106%'d when it came out, couple of stages were insane. IWBTT section was great indeed.

It's my most played game on Steam, it managed to beat Civ 5 lol. ^^

I'd love a new platformer from team meat. :(

Got it for the 360 when it came out. It's one of my favourite platformers. Yeah it's hard but it's controls are great. Fuck Cotton Alley though.

"I made The Binding of Meat Boy: The Movie! currently working on a new Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac: afterbirth!"

Sequel/remake would be cool but it's not something I'm a big fan of. SMB is almost perfect, there is online editor, I'm fine with what I have. Make a new platformer, they did something so good the first time...

(I'm not buying touchscreen platformers. Controller or GTFO =P)

Not a big fan of SMB3 at all. Some stages in that game are just......ugh. Went over that in a recent Mario Maker thread actually. I think SMB3 is pretty damn overrated. As for World I really like it but nah it's nowhere near Meat Boy level. Also NSMBU is by far my favourite 2D Mario. Mainly for challenge mode.

Interesting. SMW has by far the best mario course design imo. Challenge aside do you prefer NSMBU or SMW courses?

I agree, but I'm sure many would argue for Braid... Personally, I consider SMB to be in a different league.

Cave Story is still Emperor of Indie-town, though!

I never got into Braid. I just don't get the appeal.

Limbo and Meat Boy are leagues above Braid (IMHO).

Braid is trash compared to SMB.

I could have ended that sentence at trash but I didn't cuz of the Blow fanboys.
It does suck though

I miss Super Meat Boy since i don't have my 360 anymore.

I would love a port for PS4 or XB1 !!

It runs on any PC and is sometimes on sale for a buck. Not that I'd be against PS4/XB1 versions of SMB of course...

I'm hoping Team Meat will consider a sequel since they did go back and retooled Binding Of Issac.

Not sure what they could do to make it fresh, maybe a tether mechanic with Meatboy and girlfriend?

You're a little confused here... Team Meat is Ed McMillen and Tommy Refenes, and they made SMB and have been working on MewGenics since SMB came out. They've also made a few side projects and are experimenting with some new SMB game, last I heard.

Binding of Isaac is by Ed McMillen, Florian Himsl and Nicalis. The remake was created because of an unfortunate situation with the source code and because Nicalis offered Ed a deal where they would do pretty much all of the work. Ed isn't really into sequels and remakes and Tommy/Team Meat are not involved in Isaac stuff at all.

Braid felt like a puzzle game rather than a platformer.
That's why it's called a "puzzle platformer." ;)

Super Meat Boy is a straight, pure, and glorious 2D platformer.

I still haven't played this. Not even the demo!

Maybe I'll fix that soon.

Let's at least give an honorable mention to N+ though
The demo might sell you on it right away. The game just feels great to play. It's also a mostly filler-less experience.

I agree I think SMB may be the GOAT. I wish it came to more platforms other than XBLA and Steam. I'd buy and play again on something I own.

I'd pay any amount of money for a portable version of this. They could announce a port of this game exclusive to New 3DS and I would buy a fucking New 3DS.

Team Meat made some sort of deal with Nintendo and Microsoft so the game will probably never be released on PS4. I'm not sure what the story is with Nintendo since the game was too big for Wiiware so it was never on Wii.

Sony declined Meat Boy coming to PSN so Team Meat swore to never release it on a Sony platform out of spite. When Binding of Isaac Rebirth came out it appears that the bridges have been mended.

yeah that's true. It was WiiWare exclusive but the game became too big and they didn't want to compromise it. That's for shame.

One of my most favorite games of all time. The music, the tight controls, the instant respawn, the level design, the everything was done impeccably imo. I'm really really looking forward to super meat boy forever and hope that it being a mobile game and an endless runner doesn't make it suck.

SMB is one of those games where it's just not realistic to go for all achievements. Sure, there may be a tiny number of players who manage it, but for 99.99999999% of people who play it, it's simply not doable, and attempting it would only cause extreme amounts of frustration, and sap away all enjoyment of the game.
I played it for the first time a few months ago. Was originally planning on beating all Light/Dark levels but in the end I only beat about half of the dark world levels because light world Cotton Alley almost ruined my experience. It is absolutely the sort of game where you need to decide to stop before you sour the whole thing.

I bailed after my umpteenth attempt at the blood pool boss, despite having very few struggles before then. It felt quite random and annoying to play against, and I haven't played the game since.

Shame, because I enjoyed the levels until then.

Why wouldn't you want an endless runner version of SMB to play on the go? It looked pretty good.
I have no problem with the game existing and for what it is it has every opportunity to be good. But at the end of the day touch controls limit the design and it cant offer the same experience as a Super Meat Boy game made for physical controls.

It's actually the opposite of random, it does the same thing every time.

Man, Sony needs to green light and convince Team Meat to bring Super Meat Boy to PS4/Vita. I need this game again in my collection.

No doubt. But more meat boy, even if it's on mobile, is better than no meat boy. It could be the Dark Souls of runners.
