Rumor-Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sequel in development

Was just thinking about it.

It might very well be only me, but I really think another thing that hurt LoS to me was that Iga's Castle got canceled.

It had been along time and alot of people had been asking for a SOTN 2 (yes we had Aria and the other portable titles but still) and all of a sudden we had a trailer that seemed to exactly that with a a decent looking Alucard.

Having this happen right before/after the horrible Judgement was enough to get me excited for Alucard again and a promise of Castle staring him then it just went up in smoke. A small part of me at least was and has always been a bit resentful towards LoS for that game being canned.
Honestly, I don't want to see IGA touch the SOTN story anymore, he could easily have ruined it with a sequel.

That trailer showed barely anything at all anyway...its possible that the project never got off the ground. Wish we knew more!

To each there own. I think he added quite a bit of good stuff.

The Aria story was good, and I really like the characters he created in both Julius and Shanoa. Also it's not like the SOTN story was that great, I loved it but it wasn't some masterpiece of quality really.

Edit: I will say both the story and characters of Portrait of Ruin did leave a bad taste in my mouth, but nothing Shanoa and Juilus couldn't easily counter. That and that trailer no matter how short was already better then the whole of Judgement.

Right, but I would've preferred he work on the 1999 battle than adding something onto the end of SOTN. I really feel like all the "surprise" resurrections of Dracula that happened inbetween his 100 year resurrections really cheapened the overall storyline.

Well I will give you that. The Alucard sequel would be second to the 1999 game starring Juilus on my want level.

All I'm saying is that the 1999 game was never anything more then him teasing us where as Alucard's game seemed to at least have a chance.

I just went back to read the timeline, and I didn't realize how close Ecclesia was to SoTN. I take back what I said about a game inbetween these 2 not being necessary as it'd likely go into why the Belmonts disappeared between then and 1999, but I don't know if it's possible to make a serviceable story out of this that fits in the realm of Castlevania games (dracula not being the final boss, as it would be a real stretch to have Drac alive in 1792(dracula X), 1797(SoTN), the game IGA pitched, and 1800(ecclesia).)

As long as IGA doesn't leave Konami, there's always the chance that he gets put on a 3DS or another portable project!

Again he hinted at it, and how it related to Richter but sadly just like the 1999 game we will probably never get to see it.

Hell I just want one of these, even if LoS is a success on the console just one of 3DS/Vita would be more then enough.

Castlevania LoS overstayed its welcome a bit, but I still loved it. One of 2010's pleasant surprises. Awesome OST as well.

Definitely looking forward to a sequel.

Casltevania LoS is just such a great game. Criminally overlooked. I'd be all over a sequel. Please let this be true!

I enjoyed the full game. Even the beginning parts. Most likely because I'm an artist and I was just wowed at the incredible sights the art team crafted. From the lush organic areas at the beginning to the snow-covered mountains and the amazingly detailed Vampire Castle. There was never a sight that failed to make me go wow. I just hope that for the sequel they can find ways to outdo themselves in the set-piece department because those are some big shoes to fill.

Is this good news or what? Oh, and people saying they should drop the "Castlevania" theme and name? Er...if you played and finished the game, you'd know why they used it - and to great effect - too!

Easily one of the most surprising gems this generation. I expected nothing and came away impressed by what I played. Combat was good, music was nice, it did lack in gameplay variety from time to time and there was so much exploration that it sometimes felt the game was being padded, but the story and atmosphere more than makes up for every shortcoming...in my opinion, at least.

Seriously, if you're not planning on playing or finishing the game, just Youtube the ending! It sent shivers down my spine..

Hope to god they capitalize on that idea - yes, both of 'em! ;)

I actually watched a decent bit of the story after I quit (about 4-5 hours in) and I can't speak for anyone else but one of the big reasons why it felt like the Castlevania was tacked on was because the story didn't feel like Castlevania at all.

Using a Belmont in the way they did didn't do anything but make me go meh honestly.

Yeah, I hope their new engine can hit the mood in the concept art better, not that it did a bad job

Some of the stuff here is fanart, but this is a lot of the concept art in the in-game gallery. It's gorgeous.

So to be original they just have to throw a bunch of random pretty nonsensical art at the player?

This statement suggests to me you never played El Shaddai.

You mean how it developed it's own identity by being merely a Super Metroid clone?

LoS was closer God of War than 2D castlevania was to Super Metroid.

And for another difference: Super Metroid gameplay is a lot more appealing than God of War (and say this as a big GoW fan).

Like the later GoW games, LoS became a grind........and a less attractive one, at that.

Only interested if they actually follow the ending to LoS. That was such an awesome & brilliantly presented way to close the game and I'd love to see the adventure that entails in that setting.

I wish I hadn't. But perhaps you can tell me, other then some trippy art what makes El Shaddai some original game? It sure is'nt the gameplay, the level design(terrible), and well the actual game part.

You can accuse LoS of being a goW clone all you want, but if your answer is try and be like El Shaddai a game where there wasn't anything special except it's poorly presented story and trippy and random art design then I'm not sure that's even a solution.

While it no doubt shared some aspects of GoW combat. LoS had way more exploring and platform/puzzle solving. It had life outside of it's combat. Something GoW at the end of the day doesn't. It's really only the combat that is anything like GoW. LoS outside of that has it's own feeling. The pacing is slower then anything in GoW thats for sure. A sequel merely needs to focus on making more puzzle platforming levels like the ones at the end of game and more exploring Metriod "come back when you have this power" level design. It also needs to add a switching styles thing to it's combat. A problem with the first one was that the combat didn't really change during the game. Different styles with their own moveset could change that and ala Dante in DMC4 have them be able to change on the fly.

it's not a bad game, but I admit that my hype for that game is a bit too high because of that really good looking Kojima cut trailer, so I end up slightly disappointed. the trailer make it as if the game have really engaging story with plenty of characters etc. but I just never got into the narrative at all, most of the cool cutscenes in the trailer end up as character intro and that's it. I think I blame it to the structure rely too much on Patrick Stewart narrating the whole story. in his narration he mention sbutle detail that I wish is shown in proper cutscenes instead of just being told by narrator.

the ending is nuts though, I really want to know where they go from there.

Is that trailer still around somewhere?

I finally got Castlevania HD yesterday. I think the thing I want to see most going forward is whats up/happened to Richter(or Annette for that matter).
But that could just be me as he is my favorite character.

happy for you fans i guess, for me this only reinforces the notion that Konami has no idea what to do with its properties or why they were great to begin with. at least this one's still relevant, my Silent Hill can't really say that much.

Maybe you should leave Castlevania alone though

a rihanna fan with weak taste in games too? coulda seen that one coming of ya girl's forehead.

Don't want another game from them. Was expecting big things when I played LOS, probably cause it had Hideo Kojima's name attached to it. I didn't like Gabriel, didn't like the story. I felt I was limping through the hole story. Patrick stewart sounded bored out of his mind. Art looked good, but to me, it didn't felt like a castlevania game. I know saying this will attract the fans of this game and tell me i'm wrong, but it's just the way I feel about it. No disrespect to the team, cause they did a good job, it's a good game, just didn't feel right for me. Also, It felt like Guillermo del toro had a hand in the game(Maybe because Pan is in it, I dunno).
