[RUMOR] Devil May Cry 5 is in development (Vergil is back - Nero won't be)

I think a DMC5 that's open world like Horizon or Breath of the Wild rather than something like Nioh or Demon's Souls or even the DMC's of old, would be a great departure for the series and create a sense of freshness for the franchise. Hideaki Itsuno already has experience crafting open worlds and I think the experience he accrued with that game would directly benefit a new DMC5.

I don't understand why so many people ceaselessly clamor for the return of Vergil so badly, he is dead! Just give it up and let the guy just rest in peace. Yamato can be in the game along with the "Dark Slayer" style but what more do you need? I'm not sure how Vergil's inclusion adds anything to the game. I think they need to focus more so on creating a well realized world with excellent enemy design, a sensible story, no more than 20 weapons (10 melee, 10 ranged) that all have their own identity and some puzzle and platforming sections, varied locales that you can return to later with new abilities to access secret/hidden areas.I'd like to see enemies as aggressive as DMC1, every subsequent game enemies became punching bags for you to demonstrate how stylish you were. I want enemies who are as aggressive as assailants in Bloodborne, Ninja Gaiden or Nioh.

The game was designed around the idea so of course it was more fun to play.

Yup, Dante is basically functioning in a game that wasn't designed around him.

It's really pretty impressive how versatile his gameplay is that he can do that. You could probably stick him in any action game out there and he would prance his way through it.

I wonder if this will reveal @ E3 or TGS

Reveal at E3 and release in Jan, 2018 would be perfect.

I absolutely hope that this is NOT the route DMC5 takes.

Lady better be back too since she's so much better than Trish. Also I liked Nero, sucks if he won't return.

Just saw this:

Thank you for confirming this.

I'm so sorry guys. I'll pm one of the mods to close the thread. Again, sorry for getting your hopes up.
No problem.

It's not the first time for multiplayer.it doing this stupid jokes.

Anyway, I hope to see a new DMC one day... For real.

I don't think DMC's chapter-based structure has aged well at all, but eliminating the score-attack side of the game would defeat most of the purpose of the Style system and really hurt a core strength of the series (and you can't really mix score-attack with open-world).

The same formula for 5 games is a little tiring. There are worse paths the franchise can take but I don't think this is one of them. It actually seems like a natural progression of the franchise. DMC1 had levels that would become accessible and linked as you progressed through the game so I'm not seeing what's so terrible if DMC5 just so happens to be largely open world. Still, you're entitled to your opinion. As long as the game is always populated with enemies but has hub areas where you can restock, sell or purchase goods, receive quests and remain relatively safe, I think that'd be great. It actually remains me of Onimusha 2 in those respects.

But why can't you? When you encounter enemies in the world, you'll accrue a rating as you're fighting and after the encounter is over, you'll receive a comprehensive score that will dole out more xp and perhaps bonus resources should you score high enough. The score you've accrued while delivering a killing blow to an enemy will dictate how many orbs you receive, etc. The game will be so populated with enemies that the encounters will be as large and varied as anything in the previous game, perhaps more so.

Nero wasn't bad, but kind of looked and felt like Dante anyway. I was thinking of letting the entire old cast sit out for a game or two.

You know why this should've been an obvious April Fools red flag? The mention of DMC5 being in development. xp

DMC isn't going from the literally instanced room by room series with not even a door opening animation to a full blown open world.

When they say back to basics, I hope they really go back to basics- fixed cameras, claustrophobic gothic ambience,
inevitable Space Harrier section
- bring back the RE beta feel and do Kamiya proud.

The negative and close minded opinions of the DmC: Devil May Cry, even after the much improved Definitive Edition, will hurt this series for years to come by being stifled by what fans want. What the original series does, Bayonetta does it better already (and that's still niche), so why waste time going back to the roots of the series if this is true? That sort of game design is not fit for a series like Devil May Cry anymore. I'm curious to see what they actually do with the series though.

Disagree. I think DMC3 is an overall more complete game than either Bayonetta title, and DMC4's gameplay I still prefer over Bayonetta as well.

The response to the reboot isn't what is going to hurt the series, the reboot itself hurt the series because the reboot stalled the progression of the series nearly a decade.

Nah no thanks. Nothing in the DMC games at all points to making the jump to an open world and I can see no reason it should. What would an open world game add to a game that is focused almost solely on combat mechanics against small tough groups of enemies. I'd even argue after playing Nier Automata that one of its weakest aspects is the almost pointless open world that just adds a lot more ground to cover and time to kill between the missions. Its not really needed for what the game is trying to do.

I prefer DMC gameplay to bayo.

That's simply not true, even from a baseline understanding of both series. It's like suggesting that Call of Duty shouldn't exist because Medal of Honor does, except not with an over saturated genre like military shooters. Shovelknight shouldn't exist because Shantae does. It's an odd assertion.

Capcom hurt itself and its brand with DmC. There's no reason to demonize consumers for not spending money on something they don't want.

Anyway, April 1st article, clearly a hoax, time to move on, yadda yadda.
