Rumor: Final Fantasy XV Launches September 30

Treading dangerously close to the usual blow-out of annualised mega-franchise releases there. Late August/early September would've been perfect I think.

Well SE have Deus EX in late August so that played the part in XV date. If Deus Ex released in Q1 as it was supposed to then I think XV would have that late August/early September window.

WHAT YEAAAAAAAAAAR!????

Did it really? That's genuinely shocking. I thought that tanked harder than Lightning Returns.

Lightning Return also sold over a million. Not bad at all for an out-sourced title.
Type 0 sold 700k on PSP in Japan alone in 2011 (after 3DS's release). The game does fine sells wise.

Is there a reason? Time constraints?

I mostly only play Handhelds and in short bursts, a PS4 would be a waste of money personally.

Also I'm closing to getting my Bachelors and might go straight to my Masters if my job Doesn't give me the Full Time position(I'm part time right now)

That's a wee bit later than I'd hoped, but not by much. Get hype!

No way. If anything it's strangely early. I'm surprised it's coming out this year at all. It releasing December 31st would have still been exciting all things considered. They must have had a really solid and efficient final stretch of development.

These numbers sound pretty awful for FF games.

I want to play the game sooner than that :(
Also, it would be funny if they released a limited edition called "Versus Edition" :)

As optimistic and passionate I am about FFXV, I'm really nervous about its sale numbers. Highly doubt that 5-6 is enough anymore for FF nowadays to break even. I don't even expect significantly more than 1 million lifetime at best in Japan and that will probably take a while, too. I have no clue how it'll do in the West. It could go both ways. I doubt it outsells Witcher 3.

If it does in the good range that's all that matters, and I think the fact that it's been in development for so long and will likely appeal to more gamers than XIII did will help it considerably. Plus marketing can pimp out the open world design.

It'll be fine.

Yeah this game will need some amazing promotion, reviews and word of mouth.

They're having a huge event just to announce the date. There'll probably be other stuff like limited editions and whatnot being announced too, but there's no way it won't have a lot of marketing.

Depends on the marketing. If they do a good job at it, cut action filled trailers, hype up road trip thing a bit, show some good graphics, it could do well in the West.

Strangely early? We've known this game was near completion for awhile.

I was hoping for an August or early September release, but September 30th isn't far off from what I had hoped for.

Final Fantasy XV started development in 2012, it's not exactly the same game as Versus and Versus was not in active development the whole time since it had been announced. FFXV was a reboot of the project.

No they aren't, they are having a Final Fantasy XV event and one of the things at the event will be an announcement of the release date.

I dunno I guess I was one of the skeptics that didn't think it would be out until next year. September 30th just feels crazy to me, I really can't believe it's that close.

I'm still hoping they surprise everyone and announce a simultaneous PC release.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst :(

I'm hoping this game is a colossal one that pushes all kinds of boundaries and marks the dawn of a new era for Final Fantasy games and Squenix in general.

I think the rumor is most likely true. SE just had a fan meeting where they decided on having a (possibly) 100 million yen launch event. Some fans might have learned the date there and leaked it.

in six months, the end is coming. Gaming will be forever changed.

Where is M_Night! We need his rallying cry to muster the hype!

Right I know, but Versus became XV regardless and many see it as essentially the same project despite changing development around. Regardless of how much shuffling and changing occurred, it's a game that was revealed a decade ago and then became something else. It isn't an entirely different project as it has some of the same characters, art direction, composer, and other things. But this is probably gonna get into semantics territory.

Yes, as I said there will be other things. But they're making a big deal about it and it tells me that marketing will likely be pretty good.

It makes sense for this to have a late summer/early fall release date. I'm pretty sure I've seen Kagari hinting towards a date like this before and I'm positive Square has been hinting at it themselves through the wording of somw of their surveys.

On the day of the Luke Cage premiere, and probably the same month as FIFA 17 releases. April and September could very well be the two best months of the year for me.

It's the best time to release it really. Nintendo's likely launching their new console in November and there's going to be the usual franchise rush around the same time. Having Final Fantasy come out a couple months before will give it more attention.
