Rumor: Gamestop pre-orders for PS4, Xbox One close tomorrow

A Gamestop employee just posted to the Xbox One sub-reddit that they have been told that they are closing down pre-orders for both the PS4 and Xbox One tomorrow at the close of business tomorrow, Friday June 21st.

I haven't read this anywhere else, thus the rumor in the title. I figured that if people wanted to pre-order their console of choice to get it for launch from Gamestop, they should probably do that pretty soon in case this rumor is true.

We've been told pre-orders for both systems will be shutting down (probably permanently) at the close of business on Friday 6/21 in the US. Web pre-orders may stay online for slightly longer. Just wanted to give ya'll a heads up. :)

As for the why:

Limited quantities. The systems have been preordered in insane amounts and they don't want to over-sell their stock, especially considering they don't know exactly how many of each system they'll be getting yet. This is a common practice for systems and collector's editions and etc.

Well throughout the past week or two MS has been allocating more units to retailers (I know Amazon for sure as they mentioned new shipments coming in a lot on twitter, probably Gamestop too). Maybe they just took a more staged approach and started small and grew as they started selling more.

The quote says that some locations stopped taking pre-orders, not all. The way this guy sounded on Reddit made it sound like all of Gamestop is going to stop, including taking pre-orders online (where you can still get the One).

Yeah, I'm not really surprised. I have a feeling though, that a lot of those preorders went to scalpers. My local Craigslist is full of them. It's a damn shame that people will be willing to just pay whatever so they don't have to wait a couple of months.

I have my preorder already for the PS4 through Amazon, but it's going to suck for people who actually want to own the console to not be able to because of resellers.

Sounds shitty.. I think this happened last launch too.
 
I'm not sure about preordering yet. I mean really, how do we know how reliable the hardware is? Someone please confines me otherwise!
 
I know Toys R Us is still going full on with their pre-orders. It is only $20.00 to reserve earthier console. I was in a Store yesterday and they said they got a email that the Xbox One was opened up and they can sell as many as they can until they are told to stop.

You don't, either could be a total disaster with heat or whatever. At least in the EU, we have forced warranty for stuff like that. Warranty actually holds over 2 years, which is pretty decent, maybe even long enough to get the first revision of either console if problems persist. Otherwise, yes, it's a bit of a gamble.

Im guessing around 3-400 $, maybe more.

I only say that because I traded in a 360 slim with 10 games and 1 XB controller for $350. Make sure Gamestop is running the 30% more credit deal and whatever else they offer.

Shit. I knew I should have found a damn Gamestop to pre-order at. I will go when they open tomorrow, I have both consoles pre-orderd on Amazon, but I want tog et credit for my PS3.

I know I won't get a ton for it, but like you guys said a couple hundred bucks would even be great since a new console is a big investment, and the extra credit they give is really nice.

I just never ever play my PS3. I'm looking forward to my Two console future.

My Gamestop had a bunch left. Just got mine reserved, and traded in my PS3 3 controllers and 12 games.

Considering that all cost me about 400$ (bought used from a friend and all old used games), and I got 244$ for it all I think the value is there.

I got through all the uncharted, but never touched anything beyond blur or little big planet. Just can't get comfy with the controller, the UI and updating turned me off to. So I am actually happy about how much money I got towards the Xbox One, especially after 3 years.

I was going to change it to gamestop when i had the money to pay off my preorder next month but guess i will stick with my no money down tax free PS4 via amazon
