Rumor: Ghost of Yōtei has sold 2 million units

The people still trying to push the narrative that GoY is a "woke" game has to be a joke right? No one can be that dumb, or I guess they only listen to the anti-Woke bros?

I understand the controversy with the game, but there is nothing "woke" with this game. Some people here are becoming exactly what they claim to hate about the Reeeee crowd.
I"ve only seen snippets of the game but the "Onryo howl" or whatever it's called is some girl power BS.

She just screams and men fall down in fear, scrambling and begging not to be killed. Even Jin wasn't that feared. Shit's comedy gold (not in a good way).

Unattractive girl boss who wants to be a samurai but can't because she's a woman?

It would be a bummer if she fit the tiresome girlboss trope - magically better at everything, no real character arc (no struggle to get there), no significant weaknesses, arrogant, etc. - but that's not how people who've played the game seem to describe her. So I'm not sure she fits that stereotype. I'm not sure I'd call her unattractive so much as "mid," as the kids say.

I'm waiting for the guy who claimed it was woke (playinbox or something) to explain why. He hasn't yet, and I suspect he probably vacated the thread. I'll give him another half-day then assume he has nothing.

This a rare incel defeat? Y/N?
Ghost os Tsushima sold 2.4M in the first 3 days

Yotei was realesed 5 days ago and sold 2M

i would agree that it is a "rare incel defeat" only when Yotei surprass Tsushima 13M copies sold, but tbh its not looking like a defeat atm.

This news is for 2 days (if real).

You're describing it as if adding realism to a story where a woman kills hundreds of men with a cold weapon is something positive.

I'm not describing it at all. I haven't played it. I'm saying that this is how people who've played the game have described her.

Now, whether they think a woman killing hundreds of men is "something positive" or not, I have no idea. You'd have to ask them. (I'd just add that this is pretty much what any protagonist in any action game does - kill hundreds of men or creatures.)

This news is from 2 days ago...and was based on another post from the day prior to it, so not even 2 full days on sale but okay.

Killing hundred of people in a video game is unrealistic, no matter your gender.

At least it's not something really unrealistic, like a single guy being mostly responsible for turning back the Mongol invasion of Japan. Can you imagine?

so it sold less in the same time spam
I don't know. Tsushima is for 3 days, this is for 2 (or maybe just first day). I don't know if this info is real, but the guy posting it works for PlayStation China (Stephen Lin).
The image with the number on is from someone who wouldn't know, from a FaceBook post (appears to be someone from Thailand, unless they also work for PlayStation... Which I doubt).
Original image without the number is from months back, some digital art made by a fan.

Good for them, not a bad game by any means, but that doesn't invalid the fact, some of the people that worked on the game are a bunch of POS.

It's neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. Just "whelming".

It's similar mechanic that was in the first game, supernatural fear. Jins Ghost Stance was even more powerful.

Hopefully their sales success shows Sony they don't need to invest 200+ million in these things, and we can get more stuff made that isn't live-service slop.

I'm curious what Sucker Punch is doing next, and hope it's new IP. I would take some other studio remastering the Infamous games, just so I can get them on PC in a non-emulated state.
Who knows. But, I think they have a badass "western" game in them if they wanted to give that a go.

Yotei is basically a western with a Japanese coat of paint.

As for the protagonist, Atsu is fine. Sometimes written uneven. The issue with her is that other than a few lines of dialogue, absolutely zero effort is put into her being developed as a women. (Very very few games have ever tried developing a realistic female protagonist thst is feminine). It's just a dude with female polygons. For a good example, Chloe from Uncharted is well written and developed as a female.

There are champions with 100 win streaks, so a couple of extra hundred is much less of a stretch compared to any woman who won't even have 3.
Champion with a hundred wins streaks means absolutely fuck all when facing the entire mongol army of thousands. Was that "champion" in 1 vs 1 fights? How about 1 vs 3? Or 1 vs 10? Or hell, 1 vs 20 as you can sometimes find yourself in the games. Sure, a woman is less realistic than a man doing it (although in Yotei the stakes and enemies you face are less overwhelming), but completely impossible vs only slightly less completely impossible still means both scenarios are impossible. You can draw the line where you wish, but don't try and pretend that any of these power fantasies are anything close to reality.

Didn't you know a man can just shake it off with resolve when he gets an arrow in the head? A woman though... Them hormones won't let them shake anything off. Taylor Swift was lying to them all.

Sorry, I got bored during the first third of GoT. Did the player kill thousands there? I somehow doubt it.

but don't try and pretend that any of these power fantasies are anything close to reality.
You have confused "closer" with "close". And with such power fantasies/narrative come retards who think women can compete with male athletes.

So as it turns out the ending is the same woke Sony garbage. Sony is fucking sneaky now with their woke shit, but from now on, you know if it's Sony, it's nothing but woke trash

If you could reason with that guy he wouldn't be the way he is in the first place. You're better off letting him yell into the void with these takes.

So the voices emanating from your anus get scared to death by your characters war cry.
It all makes sense now.

You kill upper hundreds, over a thousand, which is far beyond anything any man has accomplished and goes into the realm of myths. Close/closer doesn't matter, both are impossible.

Such power fantasies have always existed as well, it's hardly a recent phenomena. Legends about woman and male warriors that do the impossible literally go back thousands of years across all cultures. Even in fiction we have had such in print and movies for ages.

I'm assuming the 60 mil doesn't include marketing, and Sony isn't getting the full $70 for each hard copy sold at stores.

It doesn't. But we found out from the Insomniac leak that the marketing budgets for Sony 1st party games isn't as much as people thought. The Spider-Man games got a $30 Million marketing budget. And that's for Spiderman. The latest Rachet and Clank game's marketing was around $10 million.

It'd be profitable after 2 million copies sold at full price lol. Not a full month of sales.
Don't forget there was possibly an equal amount of money in advertising and they only get a cut of retail sales, I think around $40 a copy, which doesn't include the manufacturing and distribution, but still close.

EDIT: Or the post before mine says I way overestimated the marketing cost.

I think you'll struggle to find legends of female warriors who single-handedly changed the course of a battle or war through physical strength or weapon mastery.

True, but that's only 40-50% of the overall game sales. The other 50-60% are sold from the PSN store and don't have to worry about that stuff. And Sony owns the IP, since they created it and don't owe anybody else like they do with their Spiderman games.

What?

Onryo = a ghost who is believed to be able to return to the world of the living to seek revenge

They are scared of the ghost not because she is a girl, and Jin was just as feared with enemies running away, did you even play the games? (obviously you haven't played this one)

You are reading way too much into it

Do you write for the onion?

Agreed but this isn't really a sequel. It's the same as the AC games and Far Cry games. Different story just using the gameplay from the last game. Now if your saying no game should ever do an open world samurai game again after Tsushima well that's certainly an opinion one can have.

Yessir.

I was leaning more towards the notion that Ghost Of Yotei could've been a completely separate IP, standing on it's own merits and identity rather than relying on brand recognition from Ghosts of Tsushima.

The reception of Yotei seems to have been poorer for it, and as someone who loved the first game, I feel much less compelled to play it because of it. The novelty of the elements from the first game such as the hotsprings, riding through japanese vistas, and the swordplay has long since worn off.

It's probably great, though, and I will likely pick it up once it goes on deep discount.

People twisting themselves into knots to try and prove something that isn't there. What an odd hill to die on.
