Rumor: Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3

Anyone still remember this GTHD trailer? First time they showed a Ferrari in a GT game.

(that's the real 'ring, right?)

nope, it even looks like the old gt4ish-ring (they've used it on early GT5P demosbefore it was redone in GT5)

And while we're at it, possibly one of the best GT trailers of all time! Faces were melted back then.

I can't believe how badly they dropped the ball with Ferrari. Where was the F50? 288 GTO? F355, 250 GTO, Dino, Testarossa, Maranello, 599 GTO, 360 Modena etc. were all missing. But they wasted their time modelling some F430 based one off that no one gives a shit about? That's some really poor decision making, and that ran rampant through the game.

Here's hoping GT6's carlist doesn't disappoint.

At least Ferrari showed up, they have the closest thing available to a Porsche license and made no RUFs.

Didn't EA's deal with Porsche expire last year? If they do manage to get Porsche in the game, I expect a comprehensive list. At least the three Cayman generations, the 4 Boxster generations, all of the 911 generations, and at least the 996, 997, and 991 GT2, GT3, and Turbo.

No love for the greatest racing cars ever?

Has Horizon received any Porsche models? I'd think that it'd have some added if EA's contract is no longer in place.

Dirt bikes on rally courses would be pretty sweet. Or will those bikes need their own tracks, like Moto-X?

I could see them using the existing rally tracks and adding some bike-exclusive ones. Gah, just thinking about their inclusion and how much it'd add to the game makes me excited.

I'd actually like them to focus only on road cars this time. I think one of the problems with GT5 was how unfocused the game was. You had LMP, NASCAR, F1, WRC and GT3 cars scattered throughout the game but it wasn't very well developed or organized.

Great point. On the contrary though, I'd really love them to focus more on making a solid 'racing' experience. It never hurts to have both, then again if some of it is half-baked, forget it.

So, if we're going by what we've seen from Drive Club, how likely is it that Sony has managed to license those same cars/manufacturers for use in Gran Turismo? Although Drive Club interests me as a spiritual successor to PGR, seeing what PD could do with RUFs and Konis etc etc is the most exciting bit for me.

I could be wrong, but it's likely that Sony handles the licenses themselves, not PD, so they should be able to use them on all their games no? Just like Microsoft has the exclusive Ferrari license for the 360.

Just like Microsoft has the exclusive Ferrari license for the 360 and not Turn10.

PSB: Where does the PlayStation 4 announcement leave PlayStation 3?

JR: Typically history can help us only so far here. We’re actually still selling PS2s in regions such as the Middle East seven years after we introduced PS3. There are a number of reasons why the transition might be a bit more accelerated this time round, but PS3 is a very important part of our portfolio, certainly in 2013, 2014 and probably beyond that.

I’d point to the software line-up on PS3 that we have coming up – God of War: Ascension next month, The Last of Us, which is looking great, and Beyond later in the year. And there’s other stuff yet to be announced which is highly significant too. There’s a lot coming on PS3 and it’s going to be very important to us for some time yet.

Sounds like a very PR-tastic interview. Doesn't confirm anything or doesn't reveal anything or doesn't deny anything.
What else do you think he's referring to? he mentions first party titles and then something highly significant by the end of the year.

Hm, I guess it will be on PS3 after all. Strange decision, this game could've moved so many PS4s in Europe. It will sell a ton of copies on PS3 of course but that's not as important as having a killer app on your new console. Hell, I can already hear my GT fanatic friends asking why the hell would they need a PS4 if the new GT is on the PS3.

This game needs a reboot.
Man, the menus are so slow, customizing your cars is nothing compared to other racers and the sound is awful!

Put someone else in charge Poly!
You know what i really want to know, how many of the persons asking for such dramatic shifts in a franchise actually played the franchise worth a damn, or are they just jumping on a bandwagon and are just repeating what has been said by a select few?

Or Kirby on the NES. Though that was more of a fun vanity project. Wasn't the NES truly dead when that came out?

Edit Released in 1993, Super Nintendo came out in 1991.

It's not confirmed until it's confirmed, guys. Like I said before, I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, i am sure they want us to double-dip... i wonder if some games will have PS3+PS4 Bundles like Vita does now... or maybe Vita+PS3+PS4 :-)

heck i bet most first parties will have PS3+PS4, if not all... maximize profit for Sony.

Doesn't mean it can't be cross generation.

It might be cross with Vita, not sure about PS4, I guess they could but would it really sell consoles? Maybe if they can improve the image quality enough but I'd prefer one built specially for the PS4.

If it is PS3 only we need to change the community thread to 'we didn't love DLC enough'

Didn't they say that the car models themselves are too detailed for the PS3 to render fully?

PS4 can easily show big difference from PS3, without "too much" work.... texture, effects, physics, model quality, framerate... just exponentially up.

I read the entire interview in the link you posted and "now it's confirmed" doesn't aptly describe what was said.

He didn't confirm anything. It was just a vague hint of news in the future.
There isn't any highly significant first party game left bar GT6 or TLG,we'll see.

Well I guess I will hold off buying a PS3 then. If the NextBox enables HID USB devices (currently non 360 compatible... such as the G27, CSW, etc) and FM5 is a launch title, Sony just lost my money.

Didn't the same scenario happen with GoW II and PS3?

Still enjoyed this shit out of that game.

PS3's were backwards compatible back then.

edit: to clarify i guess the people upset want it on ps4 only so they can sell their ps3's? i dont see the reason otherwese. it's just not realistic to think that PD can put out what GT6 would need to be on PS4 as a launch title or anywhere near launch. this is PD we're talking about. they have their process.

The GT6 for PS3 news make me so sad. How could they possibly tune the game to a level that it justifies a new game altogether. Add some more cars, how many? Some more tracks + the tracks from 5? I believe there's only so little they can do extra with the PS3 hardware.

Ugh, so disappointing.

Going to call it.

If GT6 is released on the PS3 it'll be a prologue version with the full game coming in a few years on the PS4.

No way Sony can be that stupid to release GT6 on the PS3.
