[Rumor] Marvel Studios next film after CA2: Black Panther

There was a web chat last year where Kevin Feige asked for suggestions on future movies. Someone said Squirrel Girl, and Feige didn't know who she was.

Criminal!

Also how could the new Spider-Man not have stilt man??

hmm... 2-for-1? Black Panther...

...and a re-imagined Storm?

They'll cast TI.

I feel sick.

Not too fond of Black Panther getting a movie to be honest. There will be way too many public viewers drawing parallels to Batman considering Batman is the most popular movie superhero franchise (has had the most Hollywood movies).

Could be AKA Jessica Jones. It's a tv series they're working on that takes place in the Marvel cinematic universe, and Luke Cage and Ms. Marvel are supposed to be regular cast.

Although he's WAY to small to be Luke.

I'd love to see that TI story come true though.

"I'm da kang of da souf...I mean Wakanda. I can do whatever I liiiike, ya feel me? What you know bout dat vibranium, shawty?"

I actually don't want this ... at all :/
Kinda happy it aint looking likely.

Never had much interest in the character and if they're just doing this because they want to make a cool chocolate character for the Avengers I would prefer they make a Nextwave: Agents of HATE film and have Monica Rambeau guest star.

Or just make a Nextwave movie just to make an awesome movie with no connection to the Avengers, either way would be fine.

Wesley Snipes is available July of 2013 so all is well.
Well, that COULD work.

I say either Snipes or Childish Gambino.

What the hell? You don't like him, fine, whatever, but he's been a "cool chocolate character" for a while now. why shouldn't he have his own feature?

Also someone at Marvel needs to realize that Iron Fist would make for a great movie and start working seriously on that.

There is an Iron Fist movie in development, based on Fraction's Immortal run.

four movies in twelve months?!

they're out of their minds. they can't keep doing this, it's unsustainable.

Avengers just made a billion dollars. They can do whatever they want.

I did read that Iron Fist was one of the properties they were looking at, I just want them to fast track it. Sell it as martial arts/ superhero movie. Mystical cities, kung fu, talking dragons etc., you have all you need for a unique and exciting franchise.

I didn't say he shouldn't, just that I don't like him and would prefer Marvel take the plunge into "Black Super Hero Movies" with someone else. Mainly because his power set is kinda lame and though his books may have been good (from what I hear about them they were pretty interesting back in the day) at some point they dropped off so hard that it even sucked in Storm, making her his lapdog wife "just because ... they're both black?".

Also hate the old trend of making chocolate characters have "Black" in their name, that's always been annoying to me.

How common is this? The Marvel Encyclopedia lists 10 characters with 'Black' as the preceding adjective in their name, and Black Panther is the only "chocolate" character:

Black Bolt
Black Cat
Black Knight
Black Panther
Black Mamba
Black Talon
Black Tom
Black Widow
Blacklash
Blackout

Not too up on Black Panther.
The guy just has an interesting look. And an intimidating presence.

Also how the HELL has there not been a Power Pack movie? Or even television show or cartoon. Especially with Disney owning Marvel.

Shit would clean up.

I also know Black Manta and Black Vulcan/Lightning from DC.

I'm sorry, are the people suggesting Donald Glover for real? It's probably Community's fault but I don't think I could ever take him seriously in a superhero role.

Latino Review, one of the more reliable scoop-breaking organizations in the business, is running a report that Black Panther will be the next standalone Marvel franchise launched, filling in the mystery Marvel movie slot in 2014. The studio, predicatbly, denied it. They deny EVERYTHING, even when it's true.

I tend to believe Latino Review. For one, El Mayimbe is a veteran scooper with strong sources. For another, Marvel prez Kevin Feige is smart. See, The Avengers and Iron Man 3 indicate an evolution in the Marvel business model - the movies are getting more expensive. They have to, because they have to keep getting bigger and better. But the original Marvel Studios business model - staying cheap to maximize profits - remains viable and smart. So what the studio will do, I believe, is go cheap on some new franchises and cannily target them at specific audiences.

A 2011 BET study showed that blacks go to the movies 22% more often than whites. Hispanics make up almost a quarter of movie audiences. Those numbers indicate that minorities are fast becoming a majority in movie theater seats, and Hollywood is only beginning to understand that. And only beginning to understand this: if blacks and hispanics go to movies THAT OFTEN without needing to see a black or hispanic face on screen, how much more will they come to movies if they're being actually represented and the movie is good? What if black audiences were offered something better than Tyler Perry movies?

Who said it'll never happen? Just that it won't be before A2 since it's already packed. I suspect they've known for a while now what projects they want to get out the door and that BP wouldn't be one of them.

Are the other films set in stone? Ant Man could get delayed.

It's sad that it's 2012, and we all know America is STILL not okay with a black protagonist unless he's Will Smith or Denzel Washington.
