Konami probably pussied out because they were afraid a PSP game would hurt the brand due to lower sales (they probably didn't realize that by not naming it MGS5 sales were only going to be lower).

There are a lot of things I like about Peace Walker and the story sure as hell isn't one of them.Ellis Kim said:Wow, aren't you just a shining beacon of love for all things Metal Gear :/
Peace Walker was fucking awesome. It broke out of the MG2:SS mold that the series have been stuck in for two full decades. Its the most genuinly interesting Metal Gear to date, from storytelling to gameplay.

It's not the best selling MGS title; it actually ended up having some pretty underwhelming numbers when all was said and done, despite the efforts to attract the MH crowd as much as possible.gundamkyoukai said:I think it's the best selling MGS in Japan but i could be wrong , it was never going to do normal numbers on Handheld anyway.
And why's that? Peacewalker pulls away from what's been Metal Gear tradition, and Big Boss comes into his own as a character, fleshing out who he becomes, why he becomes a "villain," and colors in a gap within the Metal Gear canon. I believe Otacon's dad to be a particularly revealing character.Ridley327 said:There are a lot of things I like about Peace Walker and the story sure as hell isn't one of them.
a proposed theory is that japanese gamers who were "interested" just pirated it, while they save money to buy the next monster hunter instead.Ridley327 said:It's not the best selling MGS title; it actually ended up having some pretty underwhelming numbers when all was said and done, despite the efforts to attract the MH crowd as much as possible.

I may need to double check the numbers, but I believe that both MGS2 and MGS3 are still quite comfortably ahead in sales. The disappointment I refer to is based more on the fact that it did not sell past the "ceiling" that every MGS title has hit, despite their efforts to expand the audience.Takao said:I actually do believe the only MGS game it's behind (only counting regular release, not adding budget and expansion) is MGS3 in Japan, no? It's behind MGS4 when you ad the budget line, but Peace Walker's budget release has been sticking around for while in lower positions of the Media Create chart.
True, it's gameplay is simplified to suit handheld, I'm not sure I want to replay it on ps3. Even the graphic will be hurt because of stiff facial animation which will look bad on big screen.Zen said:I'm honestly not sure if I'll bother with a Peace Walker PS3 port. It was so simplified and tailor designed to a handheld that I don't feel like the experience will translate all that well to prolonged play sessions. Despite that, it was basically grinding the game, and the simplified gameplay just isn't something that I'm itching to go back to; granted that had more to do with straightforward level design and not mechanics.
I'm hoping Konami announces MGS5 alongside the Peace Walker port just for the reaction.ConradCervantes said:Shall Kojima restore the number to placate the PSP haters? Stay tuned!
