Rumor: Metal Gear Solid coming to Live Arcade

ZeroTolerance said:
It first appeared on N4G and I was lol'ing and asking myself how long it will be before some sucker posts it here without thoroughly reading it. ..:lol
What? Did I misread something? Oh well

And thank you for the "sucker", junior

Wow, some guys are really bitter about a rumor. It's a rumor guys, grow up dammit. The OP decided to post it. Not a world-recognized site? So what, this is a gaming forum, and he explicitly posted RUMOR on the thread title.

It has? Cool :)

Don't just write "wrong", enlighten me. Where do they use pre-rendered stuff? Everything looks in-game. But hey, haven't played it in a while and last time I did I used a 14" and an PSP.

He's talking about the live-action black and white stock footage they have in every MGS game when they do "flashbacks" to scientists testing bombs and whatnot.

They have plenty of nuclear test footage and other items throughout certain cut scenes in the game that are videos and not done in-engine.

Video cam footage of nukes and shit I guess.

Nice to know that you asshats are giving this shithole of a site a nice boost in hits, not that this is not a true source of gaming journalism and wisdom and all :lol
PS2 version of MG2 had much better rain then the xbox version... you know it is possible for a late port. see Bioshock.

350mb? Just over a quarter of the original size of the game? I doubt it, but maybe there's some insane compression that'd do it.

150mb? No way.

I just talked with a MS Rep at GameStop and he told me MGS was hitting XBLA this Friday to combat the release of MGS 4.

Well, they got RE2 into a N64 cartridge!

PSN games come with the original manuals in digital form. I think it has the front/back covers too.
Ah, I see. I imagine that makes it tougher to figure out though. I was playing off the Collection edition and I was already like... what... cd... case... >.>

MGS has no movies, it's all in-engine. The only thing really hogging the disc space is the audio and that can easily be compressed with a good codec saving A LOT of space.

I think I got my copy of MGS down to one ~400mb ISO for my PSP.

Yep no way this game will be 150MB if its on Live Arcade at all.

I have the PSX games ripped to PSP with max compression and they come out at 940MB.

Seems unlikely but I would like to see the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake come to PSN/XBLA with updated graphics similar to what Capcom are doing with Bionic Comando Rearmed.

Some times...some of you frighten me. It's as if you would be offended if this were true.

Yeah, well I doubt people in Japan with a PS3 that bother buying PS1 classics over PSN will not have played MGS1 anyway. :)

How many VR missions were there in MGS?

Take them out, sell them as DLC later (or free download), would potentially drive the size down...

Lets just say a reliable individual tapped into our codec frequency after spying the game on a certain pre-release network.

I've forgotten what that network's called but doesn't every decent media site have access to it? and ripten doesn't.

You're right. I just checked my ISO and it was labeled as disc one... WTF? What happened to the second disc then? I thought that they would merge upon completing the second disc rip.

Sorry, seems like my software never did merge the two. Must've done something wrong.

But I still think they can get compress the hell out of that game. Konami managed to get SotN pretty small.

And thanks to duckroll & co. Totally forgot about those clips. I really need to play MGS this weekend when I get it working on my PSP. Still my favorite Metal Gear game.

sorry about that, I was gonna edit my post. had to search youtube carefully, to avoid mgs4 spoilers :lol plus the site is loading slow as hell, can't find the parts I'm looking for.

it's been a while since I played MGS1, but iirc there was some war footage and stuff, iirc, at least during the ending. and I think there was some during the intro briefing and a few cutscenes

edit: beaten... what? 12 times, already :lol

Off the top of my head the game came with 30-50 while the vr-mission pack added another 200-300, or something.

I think 300 - 500 ? I could be wrong but I remember giving up after I passed the 106th mission.

I will take this rumor with a grain of salt just like I will take Snake appearing in a Smash Brothers game with a grain of salt.

RE2 had a lot less spoken dialog and storing pre-rendered backgrounds probably requires less space than full 3D environments of those locations.
Polygon meshes dressed in textures that are repeated should really take up less space then an image.

A 1024x768 JPEG file in 90 quality took up more space than one of my Unreal Tournament levels with its' texture pack back in 1999.

I could be even more wrong :lol , but iirc the first one didn't have that many missions. most were only added for MGS Virtual Missions / MGS Integral

the really weird ones, like crime scene scenarios and godzilla-sized genom soldiers battles were only in Integral

well i guess this should make up for the dissapointment of mgs4 never appearing on the 360 right? right? :lol :lol

Yes. I'm so upset I just may buy MGS4 for my PS3.

What are they going to do when they need Meryl's codec? D;

On that note what did they do for the JP PSN port D; Anyone get that version?

I bought the PSN port and it came to I think about ~745mb (give or take) for both discs and the manual.

Also, the JP PSN port has both the front & back covers of the game case...

DON'T! The cousin of my best friend's seventy year old aunt said it would come to the 360!!

Adding some humor =P

The only way it's 150mb is if they're releasing MGS:Mute.

FALSE

I agree. I doubt something like this would be announced when MGS4 is right around the corner.
